Phantom Vaxer wrote:Honestly compared to other shooters...Dust514 is trying to run before it can walk...properly at least. The game definitely needs tweaking and it's getting it. The game is nowhere near as bad as it was last year in April. But at the moment Dust514 doesn't really shine in gameplay nor presentation and just presents itself with the gimmick of being connected to a larger more established world with real players in another game. CCP's vision is there but the execution is waaaay far behind. I think one of the other problems is that CCP is also developing this kind of game on the PS3. They may need the PS4 or PC to actually reach their vision of Dust.
They should at least try and perfect the gameplay and mechanics of the game first on the PS3. Cause even though I enjoy Dust and want to see it succeed I often question myself why i even play the game when I already have so many other quality multiplayer shooters on my PC and PS3.
Dust has that deep character building and connected worlds but other than that...the experience is pretty lackluster. Also with the fact that benefits for mercenaries are pretty lacking for capturing a zone other than getting you a little more money per match and getting a name for your corporation for owning districts.
So yea...I wanna see Dust become something great but at the moment it's looking that could be a VERY long time filled with just frustration and confusion for many players who are just trying to get into it.
I disagree. I think if you approach Dust objectively, you will see a hidden gem with much possibilities. I don't think they are trying to run before they can walk but at the same time, no man has ever set about achieving his goals thinking small. Every man or woman has had colossal dreams that helped them get to a certain point. You want a dev company thinking big. You don't want CCP thinking small because if they did, Dust 514 wouldn't be where it is now. We probably wouldn't have PCs or deep customizations without the notion of big dreams.
Plus we make the game as well, to a certain degree. Support CCP in a positive way for positive results. How can you beat that? A develooper loves to develop for fans who are eager to sink their teeth into their world. And I must ask you, what other quality shooters are out there? I come up with COD and BF, of course, as the big two. I can't see anything else that has the ambition like Dust 514. Saying quality shooters is really subjective. COD is laggy and BF is not without its faults either. I mean, at least this isn't your everyday US soldier, I'm a real american hero, shooter. You have a brand new world that has already been shaped by EVE players. Sscience fiction involved. Different race classes that mirrors todays world. Stories of betrayal, corporations, war over materials, criminal organizations, and mysterious technology.
LOL! How can you beat that? And you say the experience is lackluster? I believe its on the gamer to enhance the experience in some cases and in Dust, that holds true. I laugh and say, "yea I got some contracts to do today". It's all about how you immerse yourself into the world.
And of course it's going to be some time. This isn't your average shake and bake FPS. It's going to take some time. There's going to be ups and downs. But what better example than EVE? What, 5 years? I was just watching a video the other day about a conference (2011 or 2012) and people were cheering because the speaker was revealing to them the new animation of the warp gates. The crowd went bonkers!! And EVE probably been out three years prior to that meeting, the majority would think that the warp gate animation should have been standard and included on launch. But hey, that's just how it goes. |

They have a 5 year plan for PS3 I read earlier, so I expect them to move to PS4 by then. Maybe not move, but fully move and maybe drop support for PS3 to allow the PS4 to better the game graphically and other stuff. Because, if they keep the same graphics on the PS4 version and say make it run 60FPS that would be unfair to PS3 players. Better graphics could be unfair too, allowing you to see enemies farther away, etc... |

Ooh The Last of Us. That's one of my most favorite games of all time now. The MP is fun too. I'm just saying, even though Dust isn't really good now, I'm holding out until it dies, IF, IF it dies. It probably won't. That didn't stop the EvE doomsayers 10 years ago doing the same thing we're doing here though. |

Yes, and at the same time, were you in the forums when all you could find were threads complaining that ONLY game play mechanics should be worked on, or else, as content won't help. Everyone whines that CCP didn't listen to them, personally, all the time... it's crazy. Edit: My ideas are better than yours... but CCP isn't listening to me either...
Not really, is as much threads about NEW content, as it is about core game-play... but those threads are normally dismiss by QQers, OP threads, and nerfing demands.
Is only few people that thinks that NEW content is not important, but sadly those people are very loud, and determinate to kitten this game as much as possible. |

You know the thing about being sarcastic, it actually has to be smart. What are you doing? You're posting under a avatar with your avatar's name, not your real name or PSN. LOL, so you're also RPing.
If you don't think this game isn't about RP, then you're seriously mistaken. So yes, RP is a part of the immersion. Maybe not for you because you approach it as your everyday shooter, but I'm pretty sure us RPers are having more fun than you because we involve ourselves into the world.
Don't try to make fun of my passion. That's definitely not cool. Calling me evetard and I don't even play EVE. That's completely classless and you lack tact. People like you with this high and mighty attitude really need to get over yourselves. Always trying to look down on somebody because they thoroughly enjoy the game. Go to bed grandpa. |

This game has no hope or future.
PS4 release with real AAA FPS MMO RPG games will kill DUST. What game would that be?
Hummm note to self petition for better education for kids.
Missed the space in between FPS MMO RPG and the s at the end of the word game did we?
You see when you add the s makes it plural therefore indicating many games not just one.

Michael Arck wrote:Lady MDK wrote:Michael Arck wrote:That's what everybody keeps saying, the game should be more accessible to new players. But I think it takes a certain fortitude with the player to stick it out.
I don't want this game easier. I want Dust to be Dust. Just like EVE that has a reputation to be ruthless if you don't train and even do homework/study.
And you know what that does? It betters the experience. How? Because the people within the gaming world are dedicated and they help shape the universe, which causes for better immersion and focused gameplay.
You make this thing accessible like COD or something, and we will have a buttload of people who just doesn't take it seriously coming into game. They will be more murder taxis. More people who run around solo trying to be the hero. More people who won't even wait for their Logi to revive them. Lastly, there will be numerous threads complaining about their shenanigans
It will change the experience as whole. At least that's how I see it.
Dust kicked my kitten when I first arrived but I just couldn't settle with that idea. The fact that it was hard and not easily accessible made me push myself more. I came to this forum for help and guidance. I talked with folks who helped me along. And as I put one foot in front of the other, the game became more accessible. The equations began to look like simple arithmetic instead of complicated algorithms.
So in short? TL:DR? Go hard or go home. It's almost like boot camp. Those fit to be mercs or those who have a chance will stick around. Those are the players you want to play against. You know they won't drop out of matches when the tides turn and will give you a good challenge. I agree that dust shouldn't be easier, but it should be more seamless in its gameplay imo and feel bigger.. you know.. Its supposedly a Massively multiplayer online first person shooter. Not just a multiplayer online First person Shooter. Amother Idea for PVE.... Why not make incursions areas in EVE flag up in dust... The mercs could kill sanshas minions and rescue slaves from captives from holding areas before they get taken. Kind of a co-op mode for dust. I agree it should bigger but let me add that CCP wants it big. Reading up on Dust, even before its arrival to PS3, the devs has expressed numerous times their big dreams for this project. It's a huge, ambitious undertaking. I mean, this is the first time (for what its worth) that you have console gamers linked to PC gamers. Yea, it isn't much but it is a step taken in a new direction that hasn't been done before. The game itself still has plenty of work that needs to be done (of course that goes without saying). So as far is it being seamless, I think we must understand that in order to get there, we gotta have the foundation set in stone. Right now that is not the case. Reason why we are experiencing constant changes or bumps in the road as CCP tinkers with ideas and such. CCP seems to like that slow roast coffee instead of that carnation instant breakfast. But that's good. It helps point out the problems instead of a massive overhaul and small things are overlooked once the product is final. Ha, somewhat like how Bungie studios had an overpowered pistol in the first Halo. I'm pretty sure if time constraints weren't an issue, they would have dialed down its power before release. So slow and steady is good IMO. And about that idea, you should fine tune that and present it to CCP. It's great because CCP actually listens even though they respond and say "Soon" LOL!
actually the OP pistol in Halo 1 was not a foundation. It was in fact a last minute change by one person without anyone knowing until everyone got it XD

Isn't much? It's pretty much game/genre changing. I think there is a secret dream of taking a new approach to E-Sports and this is just the first step toward something like that. The potential level of coordination and the actual *impact* on a gaming universe from those matches, that could be 'televised' via sites like Twitch, Youtube, etc makes the matches mean more. There is a lot more on the line than just a static 8v8 match of CoD or BF3. There are more than rankings, K/d and standings to worry about when Eve pilots go to war; CCP has added a whole new element to what those war mean. Capturing an entire planetary system in the Eve universe will truly be capturing a planetary system. Not just the space within it but all the planets, too. If they add in resource mining from those planets, barren and otherwise - the impact on game economy will be profound. A relatively 'weak' corp in Eve might have strong alliances in Dust, giving them the extra isk and influence they need to make their presence known; which will also paint a target on them and the mercs on the planets below.
Dust has so much potential. It's mind blowing. It's very easy to forget that because of how limited we are with the current game play and the current mechanical issues. I find the extreme level of negative commentary here to be surprising; it's a free game and it's your chance to be a part of something new and exciting. To be one of the first. CCP wants their games to be big, there is no doubt, but they still know that these games are not going to be for everyone. Population will fluctuate. It's early yet and we shouldn't give up, not if we are enjoying this game and can look at the future, rather than the frustration of the now. Constructive feedback will help CCP help us. Game design doesn't happen over night and they're working within a realm they haven't before.
Personally, I've never liked FPSs. I was 'okay' at Halo 2 and Doom 3 (lol) but after those, I didn't play again until Dust. I didn't even 'like' Eve so much simply because the learning curve was ridiculously steep and I was podded within the first few hours of playing (by npcs, I think) but the experience left an impact on me. I wanted to know what the hell was out there but knew I couldn't devote the time to figuring out the politics and mechanics. Now we're being given the chance to make something new. I don't know about you guys but I think it's kind of rad. |

The game even runs smoother now than it did in Chromosome. not every way. we should still have heavy type I and II. Totally agree about the Heavies.
Also, I don't agree that this game is better in many ways at all over Chromosome. SP is horribly expensive. Chromosome was fun to grind for new toys, this is just a grinder straight and simple. The game play is finally closer to Chromosome in play. They still make me wonder what the Kitten the Devs are doing when they release totally out of balance weapons, suits that have benefits but no equipment for same and last but the worst is the Improved Murder Taxi Game.
The graphics are better but I would lose texture pop in grass and whatever else it takes to get draw distance back. See posts regarding HAV Rail Gun Turrets not being able to see past half their range and a similar problem for Snipers. These are the problems that happen when the Graphic Artists win versus the Game Developers. |
