Lady MDK wrote:I do enjoy playing Dust and also hope it eventually does very well, I have played eve for a long time and like the idea of what they are trying to do in DUST.
However for me a big part of the issue at present is there isn't enough of the MASSIVELY feel to it for an MMO.
I currently do not play FW or for a merc corp and am happy playing casually in the academy matches (win or lose).
I don't know if I have missed something along the way (I have been playing on another char since early BETA) but the apparent lack of any possible small group or single person activity doesn't help i.e. the dust equivalent of EVE missions for example where you or a small group of people get form a group/corp as one of the trailers hinted at a while back.
It currently feels like the merc quarters is a graphical alternative to pressing join match on the neocom when you want to play and serves no other purpose (a similar state to the captains quarters in EVE - which is why so many turn it off). In essence it feels like I have nothing to do but goto planets and shoot people in the face. I realise this is what the game is meant to be about but that's ALL it seems to be about.
The fact that I end up in a match for 15 minutes then back into the MQ each time makes the game appear no different to kicking back and playing UNREAL for an hour. Imagine EVE if the only thing you had to do was undock and had 15 minutes to brawl with someone in a best of 3 match and there was only 1 star system and there was nothing else to do in the whole game. That's what dust feels like to me.
In my opinion it needs to throw the player into the lore a bit more, have a bit more to do to get the player into the game (more content and i'm not talking about new maps i'm talking about more stuff to do. It also needs to appear a little more seamless in my opinion in transitioning between merc quarters, the warbarge prep room and the match itself/MCC).
To me a way of doing this would be to extend the quarters beyond the door (Open the door CCP ROFL) and have a couple of doors you can go through one into the prep room and hence start a match (the match making is done once you pass through the door then you see other players waiting to start also) and maybe the other door leading to a simulation room which is where the academy matches take place or to get shot off in a shuttle to some random planet where the match is occurring. This is all rather than using the battle finder console. Or to talk to an agent who sends you to out to stop drones invading your planet/ship or whatever.
I have played Planetside 2 a couple of times.. and while I didn't like the game, it felt more massive i.e. each one long ongoing conflict across many miles of a planet. Whereas dust doesn't feel drastically different to... well... unreal tournament 3 - Its a quick match then onto another quick match.
If factional warefare (and by extension of that 0.0 conflict when its implemnented) feel different and less disjointed to the starter experience of using academy matches to gain experience then CCP need to consider implementing it for these too. I have a feeling that its the fact the a new starter doesn't know anything about EVE or what he is meant to be doing short of shooting people in the face that's harming dust. Lets face it if it feels like unreal (i.e. multiplayer but not exactly massive) then its not really all that newer gaming experience is it.
Sorry for the wall of text.
We all have said this to CCP..repeatedly, over and over, and over again.. BUT "apparently" fixing the game-play core mechanics for the next 3 years, is a far more important priority....... |

Yes, and at the same time, were you in the forums when all you could find were threads complaining that ONLY game play mechanics should be worked on, or else, as content won't help. Everyone whines that CCP didn't listen to them, personally, all the time... it's crazy. Edit: My ideas are better than yours... but CCP isn't listening to me either...
Not really, is as much threads about NEW content, as it is about core game-play... but those threads are normally dismiss by QQers, OP threads, and nerfing demands.
Is only few people that thinks that NEW content is not important, but sadly those people are very loud, and determinate to kitten this game as much as possible. |

What you rather have ;
- A broken Ferrari, that can be fix over time.
or
- A Pushbike that is perfect condition.
