This is one of my multiple ideas to help new players. I have created a channel where vets can help new players in Dust.
If youGÇÖre a new player, or want to help new players, join the channel GÇ£Dust HelpGÇ¥. I will try to watch this channel as much as possible using my free time.
In this channel, you are welcome to ask questions, answer questions if you know the answer, or if you want I will gladly squad up with you if you need detailed help. If you donGÇÖt have a mic, I have a keyboard connected to my PS3 to answer your questions quickly.
Here are my goals: Stay on this channel as much as I can to answer your questions
Take new players into combat so I can show them the game
Try to get CCPGÇÖs support, to make this channel a default one like EVEGÇÖs help channel
-- Or at least try to get this stickied
Recruit other players who are willing to help
Keep the list of helpers updated in this thread
List of helpers so far: Cat Merc Noob Kitten (My alt from another project)
If you want me to add you to the list, feel free to comment here. If you are on the list, that means you will watch the channel as much as you can, answer questions and try to get newbies on their feet by squadding up with them.

I have talked with mintchip about this, their reason is that text chat on a console isn't ideal. They have something else planned though she didn't tell me what it is. |

I might join the channel to help out. I might be on at times when you are not.
The challenge though will be informing the new players that the channel exists.

And i can see CCPs reasoning here. I wouldn't expect the average new player to use text chat for the most basic of questions either and the value of squadding up and voice chat is not known to many newberries at first.
The lack of player to player communication in the first few hours of gametime is a hugely detrimental to it's accessibility.

Yeah I think a channel is great! It's always good to see those in the community step up and try to make the SOCIAL beginning for new players better. If you really want to do a project, meet new players. Speak to new players and group up with them. Hear what they have to say and act on that feedback. Doing a project based primarily on an experienced player creating an alt is as I have said, not a new player experience.
Being that I have only been playing a relatively short time and seen not only the amount you post but the average quality of said posts, I don't think you should be a representative of any kind. Why did I say that? I get the feeling you're angling for a CPM position next year. Trying to make yourself an advocate of something. I am putting some limits on myself to mimic what a player would do. For example, I won't be fitting anything until after the second match. I am also giving my sister a go with this game to see how she reacts. I will document this as well, but she is not available right now. And while yes, I post frequently and my quality of posts is, lets say, subpar (:P), that's because I am annoyed with what CCP is doing. I want this game to succeed, so this is my way of trying to help. And no, I do not want to be on the CPM, this is more commitment than I can really take. It's a comment issue, your sure? As not five hours seems to go passed without a new thread. If you really want to improve the new player experience, truly want to do it. Then I'd be happy to help but I'd strongly suggest over hauling the idea. Make a channel for new players. Promote it here on the forums. See if we can't get a Eve Dev to make it a community spot light so people know it exists. CCP Mintchip might even help with that, community liaison and all. Play some matches with them and take notes on what they have to say. It may sound like a lot of work but split between two or three people (especially if they happened to be in different time zones) would make a project like this remarkably easy. Organize meet and greet events. See if we can't get representatives from established corporations and alliance to pop in and lead a squad or just tag along. Offering advice on fits, suits, play styles. All of this would help make the game more welcoming, more open and hopefully give people a desire to keep fighting.
Great idea, but at least credit the person that gave it to you and not claim it was yours.

The problem with me is that I never know what is a good idea or not, and I tend to shy away from ideas like these.
