That intel is not only fun to see but can very useful, whether attacking or defending a position. And that's just the standard one. The proto level has an interesting variety of options, such as one that scans at 28dB and keeps enemies marked for 25 seconds! And another one that scans to 200 meters at a 90 degree angle and marks for 8 seconds! And they give this intel to your whole squad!
These are extrememly useful! Not to mention fun to use. Yet I've only been tagged by one once in all the times I've played. Why don't people use them more? I've just been using one for a day and already find it to be invaluable.
Dude keep it low... (I use it when i go nova knifing XD) |

Yeah, and floating your cross hairs over an enemy gives the same effect even through walls Its a cool piece of gear but it severely lacks when you can get the same effect without it I might be wrong but the advantages of the scanner is that; when they are scanned they show up on the map and are shown to teammates. No thats right but that effect alone is kind of meh if it can be replicated by just paying attention you know If it had an added effect like painting a target to guide missiles towards it that would be cool |

There is also the fact that using the active scanner alerts the person being affected that they are being scanned. They just don't know which way they are being scanned from. But then again, how many of us ever notice that we are being scanned? |

I use from time to time as a novelty fit. They are fun to use and helpful to your team, BUT, having to give up one of my 3 equipment slots which could be used for nanohive/repper/RE/Uplinks etc., makes it a bit of a deal breaker. Also, not getting any assists or WP from it is also a bit meh. Finally, IIRC, using the scanner also makes the user pop up on the opposing team's HUD/radar?
If they had +5 WP assists for everyone that got scanned and killed as a result, I would definitely use it more. Maybe balance it a bit by giving out WP only if the person was killed when still lit up by scanners?
Also they do seem to a bit buggy, especially when you've scanned a room with no results and you run in straight into a heavy :( |

I see the AS ( active scanner ) as a scout tool. Sneak in and scan down the bad guys for the team. It is Ewar in its most simple form. I use them and they do work but I prefer the way they worked in Chrome with on cool down. I would like to see a version that had no cool down but only tagged the targets while it was scanning. It is a hard to scan someone down if the scanner only works for 3 every 15 seconds. I scan then have to wait while it cools down, if I didn't catch them on the first scan then I think the coast is clear. I don't want to have to wait on the cool down.
People don't use it because it doesn't give WP, SP or ISK. I don't believe every action should give points and I don't really care about any of those things so using it doesn't bother me. My problem is getting into a squad that uses tactics and teamwork. There are so few people on and I am having a hard time finding squads.
Do the current modules that add to radar stats work on the AS or are they just the suit scanner?

I run gallente logi and have 4 equipment slots. I only fill them with items which reward warpoints. the active scanner diminishes my ability to farm warpoints and thus skill points. I heard CCP will offer rewards for scanning enemies which are then killed by your buddies, like in battlefield. |

It is likely that more scouts would use the scanner if they had more equipment slots to begin with. I use to love my proto scout because I had nanos, nanite and an uplink. Now I got one slot and I always need ammo so guess what my only option is... It's too bad really because in the older patch there was a lot more teamwork and people were getting resed left and right and now if I die I don't even bother waiting, no one does it anymore. So yeah, scanner is not used because there are better options. Same goes for explosives actually. |

i used to use scanners but then i relized how spoiled they were making me. i used to run my 'skinweave' logi fit with a rep tool and a standrd scanner. OMG i think i used that thing more then my eyes sometimes.
I used to spawn in at the beginning of the match and imedeitly scan even though i was in the middle of my team. I remember how i would scan before turning corners (sometimes it would bug and i would run straight into the arms of a HMG) and how i scaned almost imedeitly after the cooldown. Sometimes i would have my active scanner out more then my weapon.
after a while i begin to trust active scanners more then anything else. i couldnt just look and be sure nobody was there i had to scan. then it got worse i got obsessed with kepping enemies scaned to the point where i was felling helpless during colldowns. Almost as if i were naked everytime it was in cooldown i ran for cover looking around nervously not knowing where someone might appear from. if i couldnt scan i was blind.
i stop using scanners so that i can cut my dependency on them. they are a great tool but dont be dependent on them or you will die between charges. |

Yeah it requires a commitment of resources, similar to drop uplinks, and it can be a pain to keep switching back to it via the radial menu. Imagine if CCP enabled us to access one equipment via weapon switch though! You could rapidly switch to it with no chance of accidentally selecting something else and keep using it at regular intervals.

The scanning only works part of the time. From my experience, it works in some of the matches I'm in. When I first started using them, they worked in most of the matches but for some reason, they started working on perhaps half the matches. I've use the advanced version with 36db and the aurum prototype with 26 db. When they work, however, they are very great assets. |
