With just the standard active scanner I can see who and what is in the 90 degree, 100 meter area ahead of me (other than proto scouts and those using sensor dampeners). That intel is not only fun to see but can very useful, whether attacking or defending a position. And that's just the standard one. The proto level has an interesting variety of options, such as one that scans at 28dB and keeps enemies marked for 25 seconds! And another one that scans to 200 meters at a 90 degree angle and marks for 8 seconds! And they give this intel to your whole squad!
These are extrememly useful! Not to mention fun to use. Yet I've only been tagged by one once in all the times I've played. Why don't people use them more? I've just been using one for a day and already find it to be invaluable. |

Wow I think you nailed it. Such a shame. They need to give teams some kind of incentive to win matches (and drawback to not winning.) |

Right! You get more SP, ISK, and get higher on your leaderboards by focusing on KDR at the expense of everything else. Of course nanohives, injectors, and links give you warpoints too, but the scanner doesn't. So it's odd man out.
If you care about your team winning (and you're talking to your squadmates, who are getting the intel) you'll strongly consider using it though. Another example of why there needs to be some incentive to winning matches. |

Unbelievable that so much of the player base ignores it because they're fixated on WP like pavlovian dogs. |

No offense but you're either full of **** or have no idea what you're talking about. :) You can't see through walls or onto roofs and you cant make every enemy in range show up as a red dot on the minimap and a red chevron on the screen. |

True. It take so damn long to get to that proto suit you're dreaming of (especially without boosters) that it's hard to fault players for focusing on getting maxing their WP. This is an FPS, not EVE. It shouldn't take so much grind to get to a point where you've got the fit you want and can compete on an even plane with high SP players. Even with boosters it takes too long. Hopefully they'll at least give us another 3x SP weekend soon, so newbros have a chance to catch up some. |

LOL right? Even though I think the game would be a lot more interesting with more AS use, the silver lining is that until then I'll have the advantage. |

Knowing where the enemy is attacking from and how many there are, not to mention tracking them as they move, is very important for survivability. |

Yeah it requires a commitment of resources, similar to drop uplinks, and it can be a pain to keep switching back to it via the radial menu. Imagine if CCP enabled us to access one equipment via weapon switch though! You could rapidly switch to it with no chance of accidentally selecting something else and keep using it at regular intervals. |

Only one member of the squad need use it for all to benefit. And it helps you to dictate terms once the bullets start flying. |

You're saying someone using an active scanner pops up as a chevron on your screen? |
