There are going to be a lot of players sony will gain from the xbox and now that we will all have to pay (assuming this is the correct interpretation) a small amount Sony may be able to compete with Microsoft's servers in the future. To be honest after all the great stuff Ive heard about ps4 im ready to just throw them the wallet and YELL PLEASE TAKE MY MONEY. But maybe its just me that likes great free to play games, destiny, bf4, used games, game sharing, 399 price, and great online bargains (ps plus).

Of course it isn't, it's a stupid additional tack on price to get you to pay them more, and it gets to squeak by because too many morons don't question it. We already pay our ISP for our internet, we don't have to pay again to use our computer's web browsing. We buy the games, we should be able to play the games. This is effectively adding an online pass to every game with online functionality to ever be released. No wonder EA stopped using them, people would get suspicious if they had to pay three bloody times to use their internet.

Would you start paying five dollars a month to play any of your Steam/Origin/whatever games that have online content, no questions asked? Would you just sit there and go 'well that's how it is now so fuckit'?

Heck, I was already planning to get PS+ as it was, even when I didn't need to, so it doesn't really make a difference to me, plus if this helps to make a better multiplayer experience, that's even better. Tho I guess if you don't have access to a credit card, live somewhere where its not easy to get one of those PSn or PS+ cards, or just can't get it for whatever reason, it would be pretty annoying no matter what, so its understandable for some people to still be upset with this.

Not to mention with multiple devices and the chance your console could burnout, online membership is worth it just for the cloud backups if nothing else. After the crap I went through when my PS3 blew up I regret not buying a PS+ membership.

I think you may be right my friend, they can subsidize the system assuming you will be using ps+ the same way cell phones do it. I was expecting a $600+ system.

I hope its a as needed thing, you know games that can use the consoles a host or are hosted on a MMOs server don't need PS+, and that only games that need a dedicated server need PS+ we will see tho.

The current method of PS+ is a choice, I can choose to get a subscription for the right to sales and random freebies. This new PS+ is an online pass, plain and simple, but on the console itself rather than the game... but at least you only ever had to pay once for EA's passes.
