In my corp, we have an excellent Dropship pilot that has been flying for us and I was very impressed. With his permission, I proudly so name him Agent 8008. He's the best I've ever squad with. I've been a dropship pilot for a while, but he has shown me so much and I'm inspired to improve flying. I've also been giving him my dropships and he didn't crash any of them, except one shot it down. Only once. We had awesome dogfights with other dropships. I understand that CCP is still working on revising the controls for the dropship in the future, but I'm here to say that Agent has proved to me and to others that it works. All it takes is a LOT of practice. Don't just jump in, crash, then give up screaming wanting respec for something else. Practice, practice, practice. Then you will become valuable and everyone will want to **** the seats gunning down infantry and other people's toys. You can do it! |

The amount of people I've seen who just want a flying tank, rather than a dropship, are staggering. Good to see they can actually be used and used well. |

You'll be surprised at how well my squadmate can fly during a tight battle. A lot of people get hard-on trying to shoot him down, but he gets away a lot. But having gunners is a whole other story. My squadmate screams at me when it comes to me shooting down certain targets. But that's because he knows his dropships well and I'm still trying to improve being a gunner. |

Hey, anything can happen. Nobody's invincible. But the point is that piloting dropship works. |

correction, the pilot community want WP/SP for their actions which is well deserved since it costs a lot and is a supportive vehicle (this applies to LAV drivers as well) and skills that make sense. |

Flying dropships in pub matches is easy for a good pilot. I rarely ever go down unless I'm being way too aggressive or just dicking around. The problem is as soon as the enemy has ANY real AV on the field you're absolutely worthless and can be swatted out of the air with ease.
In other words, the balance at the lowest common denominator end of the spectrum is fine, they just don't scale up to "proper" organized play. |

I've been flying dropships since they were free in the closed beta so I like to think I'm one of the better pilots. Regardless, if you get ambushed by a proto forge then no amount of flying skill will help you. |

Exactly. The problem is that the high end expensive dropships are only marginally better than the cheap-o starter dropships, but the proto-forge guns and swarm launchers are WAAAY more powerful than the low-end variants. So, as you skill upwards into dropships, and your opponents skill upwards into AV, the dropship actually gets WEAKER. |

This x1000
drop-ships scale so poorly in relation to their AV counterpart. At ten times the ISK and SP cost. All this, with a starting line of militia FG > militia drop-ship. Easily two shots dead and militia drop-ships are a joke as far as survivability. From there the disparity only get's worse. |

We're getting too technical about how a dropship can be taken down. It's just like in real life, anyone can shoot down a military helicopter with a RPG in one shot, which is equivalent to AV weapon. I'm saying that one can be skilled in flying a dropship with practice, but not being invincible. |

Honestly, 3 Forge Guns in an elevated position SHOULD make it impossible to do anything with a dropship. That's perfectly good balance IMO. The problem is, it really only takes 1 decent forge gunner anywhere with an even halfway decent vantage point to make it impossible to do anything with a dropship.

Get outta here with that 'real life' garbage. Please.
In case I needed to remind you, we're playing a game. Games need to be balanced to be fun, if I wanted to play real life I'd turn off the PS3. And how technology might scale billions of years in the future likely won't mimic Earth, year 2013. |

and in real life 1 AR bullet kills at headshot as do all guns, not 3-4. we can go all day with these real life scenarios but in an HP argument it doesn`t make sense since DUST514 uses a lot of HP bar health systems unlike most run & gun games. |

I know it's a perfectly valid tactic, but leave me to my rage, couldn't do crap, all I could do was do a couple of high speed dives on them and hope to land a hit, and then I would leave myself exposed low down, it's possible to dance with 1 forge gunner and kill him, but when you have 3 guys shooting at you? It's impossible. |
