DO NOT mess around with the aiming mechanics. The aiming mechanics are fine, it's the input lag that is causing issues with aiming. It is NOT the aim acceleration or aim assist.
Set your screen resolution to 480p and the game will feel MUCH smoother.
At 720p there's nearly 0.5 seconds of input lag, almost as bad as Killzone 2. At 480p it's like 0.15, which is more like COD.
Fix the performance issues and aiming will feel much smoother. The aiming mechanics themselves do not really need work. |

I did this in bf3 and am doing it now as well due solely to input lag |

Also if there is a way to adjust your screen through PS3, how.
Go to settings, display settings, screen resolution, and uncheck everything except for 480p. The game will look like garbage but you will perform much better. |

Remove input lag.
When you try to move your camera when playing in HD, it takes half a second for your screen to respond to you moving your analog stick. When you play in a lower resolution your actions appear on screen nearly instantly. |

1. Dust only plays up to native 720p (in fact it's probably lower than this and is upscaled to this resolution). There's absolutely no chance the game renders at 1080p. 2. Input lag has absolutely nothing to do with latency / connectivity issues.
Input lag is a normally a pretty small delay and may take an experienced gamer to notice, but it is there, it is causing the gameplay to be choppy, and it is effecting everyone whether they can tell it's there or not. |

Boot up the game in HD and quickly flick the analog stick to one side in the mercenary quarters. There will be a noticeable delay. Your analog stick will hit the side of your controller before your screen begins to turn.
Start up the game again in 480p. Quickly flick your analog stick to one side and you will notice the delay is much smaller. The camera should begin turning just as or before the analog stick hits the side of the controller. |

I might try it again sometime, I just didnt really notice it in terms of still having the same CQC and fine adjustment aiming while in a match.
I haven't tried it in HD again yet though, so maybe it'll feel more obvious when I do. |

Aim acceleration might be tied to framerate, which would be idiotic, but we're talking about CCP here. Considering that aim acceleration is very noticeable in Uprising increasing the framerate might be a good way to improve the feeling of aiming.

I know exactly what you mean, this was a post I did not too long back but no one seems to have picked up on it:
Chase Chouhada wrote:Sorry if this has been mentioned - I've not checked all the thread.
For me the main issue is latency - the speed at which the movement on screen relates to where the mouse is seems to be quite high. It's really noticeable when using iron sights. The tracking just isn't precise enough.
I use the Unreal engine a lot for development so I know this "feeling" - it reminds me of when you have VSync on and low FPS on the PC. Almost exactly the same.
I'm wondering if the added load from Uprising has caused this? Have you changed light type by any chance? Deferred / Forward? I've seen some crazy things happen with the input latency when changing lighting types.

Noted. I just assumed that because I had my ps3 Res set to 1080p, that that is what I was seeing. I didn't realize the game only rendered 720p. I still don't think I have problems but I may change it just to see if I notice a difference. |

I tried it and I definitely noticed a difference in both aiming and framerate. Does anyone know if setting the PS3 to output 4:3 instead of 16:9 will improve the game's responsiveness further? How about if you lower the screen size in the game options? |

Tried this out today with no noticable change in aiming. The issue may not be affecting all setups. Also my aiming difficulties seem to come mainly from the strange reverse acceleration on turn speed. |

Black bars also appear in HD. Seems like the game actually runs below 720p and it still manages to be one of the laggiest PS3 games I've ever played. |

I felt no difference in merc quarter, may be different in actual gameplay though. I am running through HDMI cable to HDTV. I have noticed as have many others that after playing for awhile the game gets a little choppy, this seems to be because Dust fills up the PS3's limited memory. Simple fix, add a memory dump when entering merc quarters. |

I am struggling to blame this on anything other than pure programming incompetency.
And there isn't really an answer to fix that. You can't just yell at an incompetent individual and expect them to suddenly be better. We're kinda stuck. |

(Sort of) Pretty graphics gets most of the audience to consider trying out the game, but only few leave the game for lack of performance.
I'd love to see an option to reduce graphical fidelity to gain some framerate performance. On the PC I play all games at pretty much the lowest graphics settings possible, even if my rig considerably outperforms the game's hardware requirements. |

You can't blame input for that. There is clearly something wrong with the mechanics and there is no compensation for the input lag.

I have a crap TV, so I likely am already at 480, but it still is kinda weird.
Input Lag may likely increase the level of ickyness that the aiming has, but it isn't the whole issue. |
