It should really launch with PS4 or be there by Christmas.
It would be a big boost.
I wonder if CCP is just this slow with content delivery or they are actually double timing working on the PS4 client. |

I wonder if CCP is just this slow with content delivery or they are actually double timing working on the PS4 client. Yeah this would be a big boost, because sooo many people will buy PS4 on launch and all of them will play DUST instead of launch titles. that will be based on *PS4 dedicated* engines. If PS4 could not play with PS3 people this would basically kill the game.
Seriously, with newest game lineup scheduled for christmas (MGS, GT6) I will not be thinking about PS4. Besides I no longer buy 1st version of next gen -- will wait for slim, because I've been burned before. (Well I might get it if it's super awesome, but it seems unlikely).
Good luck with that plan, though. |

Moving to PS4 on release would be PR suicide. Forums wouod explode with rage that we have an inferior version, hardcore elitists would complain that now (to be competitive) they have to buy another couple hundred dollar machine. CCP and CPM would be FLOODED with complaints from ppl that don't want to upgrade and questions about "WHERE DOES THE ORIGINAL DUST GO FROM HERE?!"
Communiity would be split in two and devs would have to double the staff to develope the games and sustain both communities simultaneously if they didn't just shut PS3 version down entirely.
An ideas of "cross-play" is like believing in the tooth fairy.
IMO if they move to any platform it would be PC. No hardware limits, no paying distributor for client patches etc.
Rumors are that PS4 is coming in November, you really thnk CCP would dev. this for PS3 and less than half a year later release another version for a non-existant community for a console that will take time to become what PS3 has been building and improving upon for years?
CCP should have kept this game behind closed doors and kept working on it until PS4 release (which before announcement we all knew was coming soon) or just released on PC in general.
If it came out on PS4 they would have been the firstand only on the system and that would've been "the thing"ealy adopters could play while they wait for competent games to come out. Which would be the only thing going for it. Once acually polished games started coming out Dust would be "that game people played because the only other game was Watch Dogs and there wasonly x amount of hours in it and nothing else really good was out and this was free." |

You do realise that CCP *do* have an eye on the future? They couldn't use the carbon engine because the PS3 specs are too **** for it. It's doubtful that they'll switch to it, though, the dev team will have had a huge amount of experience with Unreal by then. More likely that they'll switch onto the Unreal 4.
By the way, if you'd actually followed any threads recently, you'll have seen that I've mentioned there were rumors they were developing in Unreal 4 and porting across into Unreal 3... |

Have Dust 514 installed on every PS4 so that people already start out with a game. |

This title - yes
But if they were making a PS4 client simultaneously (I have no clue) then a release not too far after PS4 launch wouldnt be that bad - Christmas or March/April next year.
The PS4 will handle this type of game easy so the whole move to PC because it is unlimited is really moot.
I just have no clue what CCP want - the people who will stay on a PS3 for years even though the PS4 is out or the EVE crowd that already play on PC and wouldnt mind having both games there. I only say these two crowds because that is how you guys are characterising the market.
If they want to really be "AAA" then they have to grow the base and chase a much bigger slice and many of those people will have new consoles this winter. If that was all bluster then they will stay back of the bus and see their already small base die off quickly come Christmas and Destiny and whatever else is down the pipe. |

Yeah DUST should release with PS4.
However.. one can hope that about 1 year into PS4 release.. they will release PC and PS4 versions (which sound like will be fairly similar, based on the same x86 architecture).
Then, once the migration to PS4/PC is complete, open the game up to 36v36 and watch this game soar. |

Something i think is worth thinking about is Sony making money from release titles. No doubt sony takes a bigger cut from the game sellers beacuse they know people will rush to buy the console and there will be few games to play. I doubt CCP has the money for this.
Also the feel i get from CCP is its never coming to ps4. |

I'd like to say I speak for the majority of people who bought every Sony console since the original Playstation (not Vita, though, because getting f'd on first PSP was enough). First hardware generation is not worth it, I'm speaking from experience.

Listen. I am a software engineer. I don't do games professionally, but let me tell you this: Unreal engine in the vanilla form is not made for PS3. It takes a ton of tweaking and tuning to get it right on a console -- which can be done and has been done -- and CCP is having hard time with it. It's because it was not dedicated to the console out of the box and they are not experienced in doing this kind of game. I get it -- PS4, UE4, all assets will be just converted to next gen engine and hardware will be so much better -- it will all work out. Except PS4 hardware is currently on par with high tier gaming PCs from March 2012. Let that sink in. And it will be x86, just like new XBOX, because let's just sell our users a r'tarded PC that stands next to a TV. Basically it will be a low-end gaming PC, impossible to upgrade, with locked-in OS, that says it's a gaming console. Designed by accountants and other bean counters to maximize profits and minimize development time or production cost. Mid-tier gaming PCs from Christmas 2013 will crush it, as it is already obsolete May 2013.
Having said that I will buy it the day hardware reaches rev 2, because there will be no better exclusive lineup for me.
TL;DR please don't expect that "next gen hardware will fix everything". It's about optimizing the game, not waiting for better platform. |

Such a PC elitist snob
The PS4 (both next gen consoles for that matter) will be fine and its specs are enough.
So what if a high end PC can do wonders. That is for the few not the main market and all the big numbers are made on console gaming. As a software engineer who understands so much I thought you would get that main point.
Most games are going to be optimized for consoles, some will look remarkably better on PC but most will look near identical so it wont matter how hardcore your PC is and until there is a full shift where the market shifts away from console gaming that wont change.

You meant the hundreds of thousands of people, that camps outside shops waiting for opening hours ? That the police have to barricade entire city blocks, and stop traffic for a full day, because is so many people camping in the streets ? Shops needs to stock millions of new consoles, because they expecting and avalanche of new costumers ?
or
The 100 people that camps outside the shop to get their pre-order console, so they can say; "I was the first one !!" ? |

Not to belabour the point but you do know they sell 100's of thousands of consoles within the first few days of launch (per region) and are up into the millions shortly after that.
Because you personally and whomever you know may not, that doesnt mean that gamers around the world arent picking them up quickly. I didnt buy a PS3 until about 2-3 years after launch but I had a 360 at launch. I had a PS2 at lalunch and I may get a PS4 at launch if it lives up to the hype.
Now if you want to claim that the EVE/Dust market may want the game to stay on PS3 or move to PC that is a different argument and may have merit but if CCP is wanting to reach out to more gamers and are currently developing a PS4 client side by side then an appearance on the new console makes sense - especially if they land in a window (maybe not launch I can concede that) where there is a lull.
Everyone knows coding for the PS3 is a pain so if they are one of the companies with PS4 dev kits and are ready to port or close then I dont see the move as fairy tale. Also if CCP had the idea about cross platforming from the get go but were shot down by MS then it may be possible for PS3 and PS4 to exist simultaneously though on this point I have much less familiarity so I am just speculating. |

I'm a PC gamer, so I understand that PC's are inherently better, spec-wise. However, there is that thing that PC devs have to cater to many different brands and architectures of hardware. For example, the difference between 32 and 64 bit architecture. I'm sure you appreciate that. The PS3 has uniform architecture, and hardware, across every single iteration of the console. All the newer models have just made it lighter and less power-hungry. In essence, the developer has much less to consider, which is why consoles are easier to develop for than the PC.
On the other hand, the PC will always dominate in the enthusiast part of the gaming market, especially because building your own custom machine holds a great deal of appeal for a lot of people. |

I'm sorry for your reading handicap kiddo, but I'll try to help you overcome it. It's the same with Toyota FT86, Scion FRS and Subaru BRZ -- good cars from the engineering standpoint, but basically bean counters' wet dream (develop once, sell as 3 cars). Here we've got: easy + cheap architecture, close to both vanilla PC and next xbox, already sub-par when it comes to PC. Cheap to produce, cheap to make games for. "Cheap" is the main word for next gen consoles. It pains me even more, because I will get one anyway.
Sony and Microsoft going with x86 is just a money-grab move. Perhaps they've finally learned on bleeding money on hardware production and want to limit the spill these days. But I know one thing -- this was driven by accountants, not by engineers.
And btw. I'm not a PC elitist. I did not own a gaming rig for few years now, PCs are strictly business for me. I am mostly Sony loyal console gamer. |

Sorry to burst your bubble. Not 'soon' or even 'soon tm' but it will be. They plan on supporting dust for as long as eve has been around (and longer), once ps4 is released...it gives ps3 a short lifespan in terms of Sony support. The more ps4's that get sold the quicker they will stop ps3 support, until ps3 goes the way of the ps2 vs ps3. Then dust will move to ps4, with an updated engine to U4. |

U seem to have a little misconception here, so let me ask u: Given a 250$ hardware budget and the problems developers had with the "strange" PS3/PSU architecture, what hardware would u use in your nextGen console? This means how u get the most bang for the buck?
I would either pick ARM smart-phone hardware or ofc older PC hardware, u need to get as much "useable" performance as u can get, so picking PC hardware was the obvious choice. Given our currently increasing AAA title budget, its much more important to get a easy to develop console out, instead of some "funky" theoretically MFLOPS stats using some strange and obscure hardware architecture.
U also seem to forget that the hardware we will be able to buy, will probably be still subsidized at first, so no u wont be able to build a similar performing PC given the same budget, so i wont call this "money-grabing". I also don't understand whats so bad on a affordable, easy to use gaming console? Simply don't believe the marketing, ofc a console cant compete with current high end PC's, how could they given the budget? Remember u don't pay 1000$ for a console. |
