Gallente dropsuits are mainly armor tanking suits, and they're useless now. I'm just going to give a list of reasons why.
- Armor tanks are ripped to shreds by explosive weapons
Try and get out of a spawn massacre when one person with a Freedom mass driver is hailing down on you. At most three hits before you're dead.
- Armor tanks do not regenerate as fast as Shield tanks
I can get up to 500 HP of armor, and it takes half the match to get it back. In most engagements, I have my health taken down to half. By the time I start the regen I'm already getting shot by someone else.
The extra HP of an armor tank is just not worth the time it takes to get it back.
- More weapons do extra damage to Armor, than to Shield
All explosive weapons deal more damage, all heavy machine guns do more damage. It's just unfair.
Bottom line is my Proto type Gallente Dropsuit gets killed in 2-3 hits from a mass driver, and it only lasts seconds against a Boundless driver from buildings away. When I pay upwards of 150k for one prototype fit, and it gets torn to pieces by everything on the field, it's simply not worth it. |

Get ready for a "HTFU" from the great community we have here. I will be more reasonable. The spawns have scanners around them now. If it looks like a clusterf***, don't spawn there. Are you using Gallente assault protos, or basic? If basic, you're just wasting ISK IMO. |

I have an alt with Caldari suits and Shield and he just seems to have more survivability. And BTW I use proto logi suits.
And if you really want to know why I'm asking for buffs for Gallente armor tankers, just look around the lobby before you drop. What are people using? |

Gallente could get nice buffs from different armor mods.... like oh say... + armor and explosive resist. There just isn't enough armor options and it really feels like that's what would make Gallente really appealing.
Probably have to wait another three months minimum to see any new mods at all... |

It's really easy to just go ahead and say HTFU and look at flux nades at shield guys and they'll be dead but everybody knows that's not good enough. It's also easy to say wait for ferroscale plates and the active plates repping while also giving armor butt that's also to easy.
When it comes to the mass driver well wtf it's meant to kill armor. Think about ho happy he is when he sees your gallente. Everytime he runs into a caldari logi with over 500 shield he just wants to thrown his freedom out the goddamm window and cry in the corner because he can't do any damage to them. With the additions coming to armor tanking i don't think armor tanking is unbalanced. Armor tanking is just like the scrambler rifle it's very good at what it does but when you fire it to much or use it where it's not meant to it'll overheat or in this case you'llget so slow you can't move / you'll get a giant buffer but no logi to get you back up to 100%.
Shield is much more like the tac AR. You get the good sides of being insanely flexible in all combat situations, reload is very decent, capacity (or total amount of shield with shield tankers) is lower than the fully auto version (shield generally have less shield than armor tankers have armor) but even with this difference reload is so fast that you can beat an AR.
Ok wierd comparison but hope you guys get it What i'm trying to get to is that shields have no downside at all other than "you'll get less shield from extenders than you will armor from plates" thing. But hey as said we can't just sniff glue in a corner and get it all back instead there is the long wait.
I've seen quite few suggestions regarding downside of shield and the best one so far is the "increase shield tankers hitbox by XX%". This would really do a difference........ but ok maybe hit detection then also needs a tweak or two.

Its obvious you haven't played with a Gallente Logistics suit, because if you had you wouldn't be saying that they are useless. So please, don't say Gallente dropsuits are useless, because the logistics suits are NOT useless.
Do I wish that they were faster, yes. But then again Im not dumb enough to stack 5x armor plates on my suit and walk slower than fat suits. |

Well, from the calculations I've been doing, you can run with 250-300 shields and 400 Armor. You can try to unlock the kinetics which takes a lot of SP to do, but as you're working your way to unlocking them, you're adding like 1% to your sprint speed (I believe) and tbh, I don't run Kinetics and feel like I don't have to after getting some percentage in my sprint speed. Also, you can bring up your x,y sensitivity so you won't feel as slow.
Keep playing around with your fittings and study that skill tree. You can make the Gallente work. Its nice when you get fluxed and see the guy charge you with confidence and ends up getting owned.
But with how im planning to get my suit, I think I'd tear **** up. I already do good with how I am now, but I''m still working on a lot of things to make myself better. Don't complain, Gallentes are good. People just think Shields are the best thing to have until they get fluxed and then they stand no chance. |

There is a dynamic...
+ You get more HP per module for armour than shield. + It has zero delay, you get regen even mid battle + With a logi around you can get 15-105 HP/s regen
- It has no inherrent regend without modules - It slows you down - weak against explosives
+ It auto regens without mods (after delay) + It doesn't slow you down
- it increass your scan profile - You get less HP pr module - Flux nades do 1200 damage
Wait till electronic warefare kicks in and see how awesome shields are. :)

I agree that shields are awesome at speed and such, but it is really all about the squad. You get a couple guys running caldari shield tanks that work well together, and they can run into a battle and influence it very well. They simply engage till low hp, break off engagement with nice mobility till shields return and finish the enemy off. While a gallente really benefits from a logi, he can become a heavy jr. Without it he still has more hp and the ability to equip weapon mods to make up for loss of mobility. To each his own, but I don't think CCP is focusing on the individual as much as they are the squad.

I specialize in the Gallente Assault/Logistics and I can honestly say...
**** explosive weapons. Seriously. Sometime or another I just want an honest gun battle but it never seems to happen. I knew Scrambler Rifles were going to be the big thing what with weapon ranges reduced and people sticking with what they know (shield tanking) so I went Gallente, forseeing the mass benefits.
On the other hand, what I did not expect, was never dying in an honest to god gunfight
Most common things that kill me (in order of most common to least common:
Grenades
LAVs
Forge Guns
Mass Drivers
Sniper Rifles
Duvolle Tactical Assault Rifles
I've been killed by a Scrambler Rifle -ONCE- and that was almost immediately after saying to my corp-mates, "Yanno, I don't think I've ever died by a Scrambler Rifle."
Duvolle Tactical Assault Rifles happen sometimes because I can never figure out where the hell I'm being shot from and a lot of times the guys that use them stack damage mods out the arse.
Sniper Rifles are self explanatory (keal stilling!!)
Mass Drivers aren't as frequent but when I do fight them they -HURT-.
Forge guns for the same reason as Sniper Rifles
LAVs because they're OP as hell ever since the buff (Logistics especially)
And finally Grenades, because they're numerous and they just suck. |

I think you're the only one with that problem, OP. I managed to armor tank my Gallente Scout. He's got 70 shields, but 422 armor. As a scout. All those mods slow me down a lot, but I can still outrun and/or outmaneuver anyone that isn't a scout (who I just kill because they're squishy). I can actually take on a Heavy one on one. Also, with everyone whoring the Scrambler Rifle and Flux Grenades, I can sprint around ROFLstomping 3 or more people at once. As a scout. And as icing on the cake, I almost always have a Corp Logi in my squad. The only real downside is that because I tanked my armor so hard, I don't have room for Profile Dampeners. Though that would be unfair. |

I've actually been considering moving from shield to armor tanking for a lot of the good reasons listed here. Yeah explosives will **** you up, but that's working as intended, just as flux weapons will **** up a shield tank.
I've actually been quite impressed with CCP in making armor tanking much more viable. These people with active armor fits are infuriating to fight, because they duck behind cover for 2 seconds, have their own reps and a logi repping them, and they're back at full health. Meanwhile my shields have yet to start recharging and now I'm dead.
Shields work very well with hit and run tactics, you can take someone out and run away with zero movement loss.
Armor works very well for hunkering down and holding your ground. You can't move as much but you have more HP and can regain it much faster with support, even mid-battle.
With the improvements to armor tanking, and the addition of the scrambler rifle, the pros and cons of armor vs shields is much more balanced now. Once they add the penalty of signature profile for shield extenders, as well as those special armor plates, it'll be perfect. |

Benefits of armor
- Benefit from rep tools - Able to do more dmg by equipping damage mods - Benefit from nano hives that repair - Get to take full advantage of being able to run your shields down and your armor - armor mods add more health than shield mods.
Benefits of shields
- Faster movement - faster recharge - Possibly less weapons that fair better against them (Majority of players run ARs or laser rifles so probably not) |

But yeah, Old thread.
Irrelevant.
Armor is now a very good one-time shot to get you through a tough fight, whereas shields, although SIMILAR HP can be reached now, Shield has a fair bit less HP for the bonus of Regen and Slightly more speed.
Armor- Nice One-Time Buffer for when some really deep **** goes down. Helpful to have a buddy with a Rep Tool.
Shield- Nice Regen and added speed, Less Buffer then armor. Advisable for more Lone-Wolfs (Like Myself) |
