I am looking for advice on how to do better with my heavy suit. I used a heavy machine gun last build and did ok but this build ii cant seem to aim at anything. the best i can do now is break even on KDR only with advanced equipment. When i do that i am bleeding out isk. Any tips to make my heavy more effective because i seem to do better if i equip my heavy suit with a shotgun. |

Which HMG are you using? I personally don't play heavy, but my buddy does and one of his big suggestions is to stack up on complex armor plating. When you think about it, heavy already has the slowest speed, so 10% of a small number isn't that much of a decrease at all (and not as noticeable as say with a medium or light that has a larger number for it's speed and thus a larger drop off if using plating). It sort of makes sense that the Heavy would be able to use plating with the least draw back. I can't remember if he stacks 2 or 3 complex armor plating, but he likes it. Definitely boosts the survivability and from my screen he doesn't appear any different than all the other heavies when he walks.
And and try to find yourself a logi bro. |

Hmm, your fitting is mostly good but the one thing that stands out the most is your grenade. Ditch the locus grenade ASAP. They are good grenades, but not for a heavy. Your HMG does more damage to armor than shields, so what you want are flux grenades. Wipe the shields out of a big group and watch your HMG chew through that armo.
What's your play style though? Heavies should never ever ever ever ever ever *deep breath* ever go anywhere by themselves. You guys are strong but way too slow for solo play, any decent player will be able to run circles, chip away, drop some grenades, dodge you bullets, whatever it takes if you are all alone.
Stay in groups and start thinking of your surroundings in a sense of choke points. Most the time you should be on a defensive role, but if you do role offensive pick your path wisely. That's really all I got, again I'm not a heavy, just a dedicated logi for a heavy. Perhaps someone else will drop by and provide a bit more specifics. |

I have a heavy alt with about 1.6 million SP and I do just fine with std suit, basic plate, basic rep, basic dmg mod, and the adv HMG. I'll regularly get 3x more kills than deaths and oodles of assists. The suit only costs 26k so I can die 5 times and still break even. I don't die that many times in a match. Also, this is the alt I play to screw around and I've rarely got any logi backing me. The key is in picking my battles and ducking under cover to repair. If you are having trouble in pub matches with a low skill HMG character you are doing something wrong. |

This isn't too far from what I am using and to be fair it sounds more like you should do what I did: grab a loadout that sits at about 30k and just get better. Use cheap gear until you are better at the game, because even running all proto won't help you before you get a feel for your characters speed of movement and aiming, your enemy's movement, the environment and so on.
Grab the first suit, the advanced hmg, a sidearm of your liking, some flux grenades (or whatever works best for you, but flux+hmg = good. A lot of classes shield-tank, so stripping them down like that will make most enemies panic) and some modules of your liking. Personally I stack complex armour regen and whatever dmg modifier I can fit in the high slot. That should put you at around 30k, cheap enough for you to not get overly frustrated over dying while trying different approaches to various encounters.
I really don't mean to come across as someone telling you "L2P" or anything, I'm just suggesting that you should use cheaper gear until you sit at a general 3:1 k/d ratio or above in a balanced lobby. With all the tips given by other players in here I'm sure you'll be well on your way to get there!

I use the mauler heavy dropsuit and replace the heavy mod to an armor repair and the light mods to shield extension. The gun I use is a shotgun with a sub machine gun as backup and fused locus grenades. Works well but I sure could use some advice. |

First get your shield upgrades maxed out that should be priority. I have several different fits depending on how I'm running a few things to try 2 reps in low or rep and a plate whatever level you can use. DO NOT STACK COMPLEX PLATES unless your defending a point with a Logi. I almost always use complex damage mods in my highs unless I'm doing a sheild suit You could also try 2 enhanced regulators in your lows and 1 complex shield extender and 1 Complex shield booster in your highs its kinda fun your shields come back crazy fast |

Here is my pub match loadout
Sentinel Lvl 1 Heavy Dropsuit Hi - 1x Complex Damage Mod Lo - 2x Enhanced Armor Plate Assault HMG Flaylock Pistol M1 Locus Grenade (I rarely use Flux anymore, I like blowing people up. AV nades if maps favor LAV murder taxis) ~ 505 Shield, ~ 670 armor Cost ~ 20k ISK
First and foremost, consider using an assault variant of your HMG. The advanced is the MO-4 Assault HMG. Good weapon, has 10m longer range than the MH-82 with lower damage. Alternatively, have you tried the burst HMGs? In the right hands they can be deadly.. very tricky to use in close quarters, but wonderful on stationary targets medium range.
Using Flux grenades are helpful if you are having trouble killing enemies 1v1. I am not saying dont use them, I just prefer getting triple kills with my locus :)
Regarding your fitting quoted above: I would suggest dropping the Enhanced Damage Mod for an Enhanced Shild Extender, that will put you at 500 Shield. Consider dropping down to 2x Enhanced Armor Plates to free up CPU and PG, and upgrading to advanced grenades. More damage, larger blast radius. If you find yourself switching to your sidearm alot, upgrade to the Assault SMG. Or tryout Flaylocks.. they are not for everyone, but a very good weapon for finishing off an injured opponent.. or when you are up close being jump/strafed shoot their feet and watch those scouts explode. They also work wonders from an elevated position, surprisingly good at med range combat.
And just for reference here is an example of one of my Proto suit layouts...
Amarr Basic Proto Heavy Dropsuit 1x Comp Damage Mod 1x Enh Shield Extender 2x Enh Armor Plates 1x Enh Shield Regulator GN-13 Flaylock Pistol Gastuns MN-7 HMG or Gastun's BRN-50 Forge Gun (with Forge I run 2x Comp Damage Mods) M1 Locus Grenade or Hacked EX AV Grenade |

I don't play a heavy, but I know the mistakes they make, from my experience killing them.
Never for a second think that your superior eHP will make you unstoppable. Use cover, and watch your back- heavies have the worst scanning stats, so the radar won't point much out for them.
The last thing you want is to get cocky and end up getting killed by a shotgunner of nova-ninja you didn't notice. |
