@cy6: To the OP, I would agree with you but it prevents one thing. With that you would be locked into a certain race.
CCP wants this to be a sandbox game. More than that, it's a game that offers flexibility. What if one day you choose that the race you chose (assuming based on your profile) that you hated the Amarr and their evil ways of enslaving the Minmatar and decide to join a freedom faction that fights for Minmatar? Under your system, you can't do that and would have to re-roll a character that was Minmatar. With the current system, you can simply switch over to using Minmatar suits, guns and equipment with no trouble and even carry your dark past with you.
And trust me, there are some EVE players (and Dust players too) who are loyalists. In fact we had an EVE player not too long ago complaining that mercenaries from his alliance were fighting for the opposing team. Which we "gently" reminded him to HTFU and if you want your alliance to be loyal, force your mercs to fight for one side and if they defect, kick them from the alliance.
And right now, it's just Empire factions. Wait until we start striding into null sec... |

Well, thats how Dust 514 is.
No, the armies don't do that.
But a mercenary force can hire from all nationalities, equip their troops with whatever they want, and hire out to anyone willing to pay enough. |

Or do you have someone that tells you how and what to think, feel, eat and wear everyday? That guy was saying it's realistic when something like this isn't even happening. Ok, so theres ONE army wearing Russian,American and England uniforms, fighting against their own Country's thats setup the same way. |

Racial bonuses on dropsuit has nothing to do with your racial DNA, it depends on skills you learn & use. For example - you could born as Caldari (you like caldari type, face) but deep in your soul you may hate entire your race... and love Gallente ideology, life style, technology. |

You seem to be mistaking this for a normal FPS when the idea behind it is RPG in the character selection area. On those you pick a side and you're stuck with it till the next match. No real thought involved beyond a click and then shoot the other side. You're welcome to play it that way if you wish. I'm just dropping a hint as to that's not how CCP thinks. Sure, some of the FPS may have added RPG leveling like attributes over the years. But, at their core is still the old select a guy and shoot the other side. There is no role playing mechanics involved in them beyond kill person in other uniform, gain points to level that particular class. There is no thought to making that chracter a person because you're using those pixels for 20 minutes tops and then switching. RPGs are different since the general idea behind them has been creating the ideal of another person. |

Pretty technical answer, nothing to do with role play |

I do. He's an Amarrian loyalist but does have doubts about some ideals. The use of vitoc, mistreatment of the Reclaimed. He doesn't see the Minmatar as bad. Just misguided and led on the right path. He also doesn't see the Gallente as being evil. Just decadent but could be given sermon to. Since the Amarrian religion has made front roads into the Federation. |

I think your militia suits and the free lav should be determined by the race you choose, similar to the noob ship in eve. As far as lore and the ability to choose other races suits, we are immortal mercenaries who will fight for who we choose, or even ourselves as we build our own empires among the stars. When it comes to different "uniforms", we are quite a bit into the future, we have an advanced tac net that takes care of things like friend or foe, uniforms are a thing of the past. |

You could always just add the patch of the corp the teams are fighting for to the shoulders of the mercs, would add some sense off identification on the battlefield. But it doesn't matter because if your sensors show a merc as blue, you don't shoot. No color or if its red you shoot. Imagine it as the crypto comms of the suits. |

I imagine it depends on the nation. The Gallente might be more accepting of such unusual behavior than, say, the Caldari. To be honest, though, I don't know much about how that's handled in the lore. |
