So I have not been on in a couple days, the fourms that is, and it is the same as always...NERF crazy. I was reluctant to skill into logi, and the TAC AR but what are you supposed to do if you want to compete? I know , here it goes " I dont use those and I do just fine". I skilled into logi to actually be a logi and assist my team with equipment, and now I see that people want it nerfed due to the assault aspect that it is being used for. I am going to just go ahead and say this to clear up the big misconception I believe alot of players have about a suit or weapon being OP.
SP IS KING.....if you have it, it does not matter what suit you skill into, you can make it awesome, core skills!
There is always going to be a OP weapon, because their is always going to be a weapon that can counter your build.
SO...nerf the logi, give me all my almost 12 million sp back, and we will find something elese that is op to invest it in.....until people realize that 5 million sp is not going to be able to counter 12 million well placed sp, unless you snipe, use a grenade, or shoot someone in the back. |

If the OP is saying nobody should expect to be able to compete with higher SP players, then we may as well pack up shop and have matches decided by a simple program that adds up the total sp of both sides. I'm inclined to agree that this is close to the current state of affairs, but where I differ from the OP is in his apparent satisfaction with this potentially game-killing situation. |

What we have is several types of players right now.
One type is dedicated sp grinders, which has included myself, and many people with more or less sp than me.
another is the "entittled" player that does not have much SP, but believes that they are entittled to better gear and weapons.

I am still amazed how people do not get this.
First off there are all these crap players who worry about gear.
Seriously look at the actual stats of a milita AR, a gek and a dovall...the difference is a as small as a couple of well placed SP levels.
The same goes for just about every aspect of the game...You get far more out of SP then you will from upgrading to more expensive gear.
Second follows the original posters point. How the hell can you even tell what weapon or armor is OP?!?!
Unless you know how much SP the person you see being OP with a particular weapon has there is no way to know.
Every item used by someone with 10 million SP is OP...and every item used by someone with 3 million is a toy.
The saddest thing about these facts is that CCP doesn't even seem to understand it....and they pile on the nerfs to specific weapons as if it matters one damn bit and does nothing to eliminate huge SP/level differences. |

I do just fine (3.0 KDR+) on a 0 SP alt i made to try and get used to these broken controls we got, and sure i do better on my 10.5m SP main with a 6.12 KDR running without a team.
Why shouldnt we become better in the long run? There are 135434348434 shooters out there that have a flat level curve where you don't get more powerfull as you keep playing the game, but trust me that each game has its own share of OP weapons or combos, regardless of SP.

Why should a new player have a disadvantage unrelated to player skill level and the only solution is to wait months to be on an even footing with others? Skill progression systems can work but only implemented well and our current system is not implemented well My favorite skill system from a semi recent game was the one used in MGO, skills level through use not time and you could only slot a certain amount at a time for use in combat so it was never felt game breaking Well aside from CQC + |

BINGO...you nailed it, but this is how it is created due to this being "EVE" persay. Go on EVE and the same thing will happen, you have a 2 month old char going aginst a 2-10 yr vet and it is unbalanced. My main point is this is how DUST 514 works, it is a skill progression based MMOFPS and as much as people do not like to admit it, SP does give a major advantage....despite a few that does well on alt account "see above".
These people complaining about the race specific Logi's.....are prob not even specd into one, and the majority do not even have the SP to get into one.....yet QQ because that is what is killing them.
The game will soon be on a tipping point where "INVESTED" players are going to see no point in grinding SP to get into NICE DESIRABLE gear due to the hammer that follows. This game is not all about "killing" yet about advancing you char and your build.... with SP of course. |

It's all about balancing for skill. Lemme give you a scenario:
Let's say player A has 12 million SP and is running full proto with Duvolle AR.
Her comes player B who has only 5 million SP and is running standard gear with a GEK-38.
Now, player A is in the complex and he just hacked the CRU. Uh-oh, he wasn't paying attention and player B turns the corner and they get into a gunfight. Dakka, dakka ensues and player B just dropped player A. What happened? Let's take a closer look.
Though player A had more than double the SP and superior tech than player B, player B had better aim and footwork. Player A thought he could win with superior tech, and tried to tank player A's GEK-38 while player B butterfly strafed player B's Duvolle. SP and gear matters, but at the end of the day, a player with a better gun game and footwork still has a better chance of beating a player with superior tech if their aim is weaker. But let's go even deeper:
Lets say player A is running standard Amaar assault with 400HP and an Imperial Scrambler Rifle.
Player B is running Caldari Logi with 700HP and a GLU-5 Tactical Assault Rifle.
Same scenario, dakka, dakka... but what's this? Player B was the one who got dropped. What happened? Let's take a closer look.
This time, even though player B was running superior tech, had better aim, and had more EHP, player A was specificially geared to handle him. Player B was shield tanking in a Caldari suit and the Emperial Scrambler Rifle player A was using cut through his shields like a hot knife though butter, leaving player B with only a fraction of his HP and was easily dispatched because player A had a better fitting despite its average meta level being inferior to player B. Let's do one more
Player A is a Caldari assault CK.0 with 4 damage modifiers and a Duvolle.
Player B is an Amarr MK.0 with an imperial Scrambler rifle.
Same scenario dak- wow, that was quick, player B died before I could say dakka once. Let's take a closer look.
Even though player B was fitted with player A's effective counter and had better aim, player A has better reflexes and is more of a twitch shooter player, so he was smart enough to fit himself for ganking.
My point is that there are different types of player skills being merged together in Dust 514. Strafe and track FPS skills, twitch FPS skills, and meta gaming skills. SP is going to somewhat help each type of skilled player, but SP will never be "I win button." Skill, experience, tactics, and knowledge are king, SP is the court magician that baffles and amuses with his illusions. Whatever you particular gaming specialty you favor, you should always fit yourself accordingly to match your playing style.
If you're a twitch shooter with good reflexes, fit yourself to gank, using stacked damage mods and a high DPS weapon.
If you're a duck and cover, strafe and track kind of player, fit youself to tank with armor and extenders relative to your suit class's specialty.
If you're good with meta gaming, find out what the current fit of the month is, and fit your self accordingly to counter.
The SP matters, but to the extent of how far you can customize your character to your play style. There's a lot of meta gaming and counter play. People tend to forget that Dust 514 isn't just an FPS or just an MMO. CCP has combined the genres, with one genre reinforcing the other. Play to your strengths and say **** the SP. |

I have to disagree, there are plenty of players that, irrelivent of how much more SP you have to them, will always kill you first. yup |

If SP is the monarch you say it is, then this game is well & truly broken. than the weekend warriors that only play on the weekend for fun, and if it gets too stressfull, they will put pokemon on and play that.
Mario Kart actually; and there's no if about that |

And we seen just what they do with the nerf hammer..hint viziam.
Do they not have stacking penalties fixed yet on dmg mods? |

The glitch is that it's not shown on the fitting screen. |

I've done this several times. usually to try out stuff without investing my mains sp. my FOB heavy alt got 31/9 on Saturday. minimum kdr has been 0.9 or so, although i had a couple 2/4 matches. |

A 5mil SP character spec'd into TAC AR versus a 12mil SP character that uses regular ARs. The 12mil character will lose. Weeee~ Balance. Yaaay!

SP is KING due to .....SP = TIME PLAYED
The longer you play, the better build you will be able to create, with proper SP placement.
Is this not an EVE based game? Has the EVE players forgot ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ what I just wrote?
In the real world it is called Seniority.... the same method that was used to pick the CPM basically...it is what it is, I am sorry for being blunt, but CCP needs to remind everyone about this concept of the game.
When you intice people with nice things and they are out of reach for many players, it creates a mental and battlefield imbalance. Skill progression systems can work but only implemented well and our current system is not implemented well My favorite skill system from a semi recent game was the one used in MGO, skills level through use not time and you could only slot a certain amount at a time for use in combat so it was never felt game breaking Well aside from CQC +
The EVE-based SP system is designed to both provide players an incentive to keep paying even when they DON'T play (passive SP) and keep them coming back (it takes HOW many years??). Advancing only when you play leads people to look at that game they haven't played in 3 months and think "Hmmm.... I don't want to go BACK to THAT" whereas constant passive advancement leads them to go "Hmmm... I wonder what I can do NOW?!" and pulls them back in.
ACTIVE advancement gives you an incentive TO play, which provides content to everyone who actually PAYS. Because guess what you no-aurum-buying whiny Napster era sons 'a bitches... you are my game content.
New players are at a disadvantage to old players because it gives them a reason to ASPIRE to be one of those bitter vets. If you can do it all day one, you get bored dude.
ALSO, people need to learn the concept of diminishing returns and minimum effective dose. 1million SP means a lot more to a new player because he gets a lot more benefit from it (5-20% in several areas). 1million SP is barely one level V skill for an older player, so a marginal advantage of only 5% in one area. You eventually reach a point where - I promise we aren't lying to you - a 20mil SP character is 100% as effective as a 50mil SP character. There are only five levels per skill, and only so many skills that are effecting any particular suit that you are wearing at any given time. Eventually you start maxing out what you can do with what you are wearing so you grow laterally and skill into other things. You can be more versatile, but not godmode. That's why there are no 'levels' in New Eden.
The "But I don't like that and I'm going to quit so the game is going to fail" is like saying you don't like how weed makes you feel so you don't smoke. Well guess what... there are plenty of people who are hooked and they pay the dealer's bills. Welcome to video games. |

Serious question, is Dust your first FPS? A long skill grind does not add an incentive to keep playing an FPS, more maps, more game modes, more vehicles and weapons are all incentives to play Said it once and Ill say it again, Player skills should always be the deciding factor in an action game not character skills |
