I'm going to try and gather your opinions about what each class is supposed to do. If CCP would like to step in and tell us what they think that would be great :)
I will watch the results and see what kind of consensus we can get.
Anyway, here is a form I made:
Heavies: 1. What do you think their main role should be? 2. Any secondary roles? 3. Advantages, disadvantages? 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be?
Assaults: 1. What do you think their main role should be? 2. Any secondary roles? 3. Advantages, disadvantages? 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be?
Scouts: 1. What do you think their main role should be? 2. Any secondary roles? 3. Advantages, disadvantages? 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be?
Logis: 1. What do you think their main role should be? 2. Any secondary roles? 3. Advantages, disadvantages? 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be?
Here is how I would fill it:
Heavies: 1. What do you think their main role should be? Point defense 2. Any secondary roles? Slow, strong pushing forward 3. Advantages, disadvantages? High HP, High DPS, very slow, big targets. 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be? Kinda sorta. The slow pushing part is the tricky one. They are good at defense after the recent buff, but they don't do much at pushing forward.
Assaults: 1. What do you think their main role should be? General combat 2. Any secondary roles? Nothing, they're general. 3. Advantages, disadvantages? Have a good medium between speed, HP, DPS potential, slots, etc'. They're generalists so they're not going to outdo other suits at their specific use. 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be? I think they are pushing too much into the "Do everything, better than anyone" part. They're too close to scout speed, too close to Heavy HP.
Scouts: 1. What do you think their main role should be? Scouting, relaying information for the squad. 2. Any secondary roles? Hit and run attacks. 3. Advantages, disadvantages? Very quick, low scan profile, can be completely hidden from enemy radar until its too late. Low HP, problematic fitting. 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be? The hit and run part works well, though as I said they need a speed buff as assaults can outdo them at that. Relaying information goes into the EWAR mechanics of the game, which are coming Soon(TM), so we'll see how well they do then.
Logis: 1. What do you think their main role should be? Squad support 2. Any secondary roles? None 3. Advantages, disadvantages? Are the most versatile, most fitting slots, most CPU/PG. Lack sidearm (except for Amarr one), lower base HP, lower base speed. 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be? Caldari logi, nuff said. |

Each suit is designed for certain things, but it's ultimately up to the players to decide how to use them. More often than not, you will see plenty of players opting to using certain suits outside of the intended designs. Take a Logi Sniper as an example. |

Absolutely. Those that think otherwise are missing the point. Of course, a well-drilled team needs roles, it's just that they don't have to be rote with class. |

I'm not saying they can't make the class something it wasn't intended to do. (I saw a heavy go faster than an assault the other day) I'm saying that a class has a base, a expectation of what its supposed to do in the first place. |

i wud hope all this customization doesnt get funneled down to "u do this" "he does that". i loved dust because i cud be anything and everything as each battle needed it. now im stuck runnin AR for the most part. lame
i used to recomend the logi class to new players as they cud still get points even if they were not adept killers. now they have to skill up to about 4mil just to be a competent logi. guesshow long that will take at about 400k skill points a week.
heavy snipers were awesome. a forge gun tanker who cud avenge his tank loss immediately. sweet. i had an assault logi who cudnt die after i used up his equipment.
this game is limited to using ARs and medium frames as it is. Why try and confine ppl with a little creativity to a generic role?

As this game rolled out in the Beta phase, it was billed as a game where the players decided what each roll did and how they wanted to skill to approach whatever roll they chose. Many a interview where developers talked about Heavy Snipers, Light Assault or basically anything we the players could think of based on what was available in-game. This was an appeal. The thought of mapping your progression to suit your individual play style was a major draw.
Now it seems many wish to pigeon-hole players into these structured dynamic cookie cutter classes that make it just like any other shooter out there. Limited roles with limited guns and limited slot and limited skills and bonuses to this and nerfs to that. This was never on the menu. I understand the need for balance. In nearly a year of Beta testing I have seen things addressed that needed to promote that balance. But now that the game is about to go "live", many are scrambling to sap every once of originality out of the game.
I play the same game you do. I am an average player with meager 1.13 KDR and I have been a dedicated Logistics/Triage player for several builds and ever since Open Beta kicked off. I have logged several hours of game time since the update and I have yet to run across what seems to be a outpouring of Super Soldiers out there populating the battlefield. I have seen the same mixture of fittings that I have always seen. Some are heavy on the defense, some are heavy on the offense. Some have ranged weapons and some are CQB. Heavy shields, heavy armor, balanced mix...I see it all.
Sometimes they kill me...sometimes I kill them. Now I even got this nifty stats screen to even tell me how they did it and what suit that are wearing. Kill me enough times and I will probably switch to a different fitting (we get like 30 you know) that might be better designed to take you down the next time we meet. I was kind of under the impression this was how the game was to be played. At least that was how it was advertised so many months ago.
Do me a favor. Put a little effort into your gameplay and don't try and put me in a box with some generic label on it. |

Heavies: 1. What do you think their main role should be? Walking bullet sponges and pushers 2. Any secondary roles? Antivehicle and defence 3. Advantages, disadvantages? High HP, should have an option of a large AOE very low damage weapon, slow, large hitbox 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be? I dont think so, CCP wants to corner heavies only into defence which is boring
Assaults: 1. What do you think their main role should be? Cannon fodder infantry, typical soldier 2. Any secondary roles? a little bit of this or that but nothing specialized 3. Advantages, disadvantages? All around jack of all trades 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be? yes
Scouts: 1. What do you think their main role should be? As the name should imply, scouts. 2. Any secondary roles? tactical Flankers 3. Advantages, disadvantages? Speed, mobility, / low hp 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be? weither people use them that way or not, yes
Logis: 1. What do you think their main role should be? As the name implies logistics. The all around support, being a medic or a mobile supply depo 2. Any secondary roles? secondary infantry man 3. Advantages, disadvantages? slower than assaults, should have a slightly larger hitbox, more tank than assaults 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be? No, everyone just uses them for Assault, I kinda dont blame them

I can put a sniper rifle on my heavy suit, and call that my main role.
Every role or class is only limited by the weapons that they're allowed to use.
True I won't have nanohives to resuply, but I can either call a logibro for ammo, or call in a drop ship > head to a supply depot > change suits for one with nanohives > head back to mountain > drop hives > head back to supply depot for my sniper load out > head back to mountain
A role isn't, or shouldn't be limited by the suit that is used. The player using the suit determines what they want to do with it. |

Pretty long post when all you needed to say, like most others in the QQ crowd is that Caldari Logi is OP. Which it isn't by the way...oh well. Not going to convince anyone around here of that. |

I agree mostly except I don't agree that logis should have the most high/low slots, and I'm a logi! We already have a light weapon and the most equipment, why are we also getting the most high/low slots? The suit isn't a logi suit, it's an "Everything" suit. No such suit should exist.
If you want the slots the same, I'd say make the Gallente Logi racial bonus the actual Logi universal bonus. All equipment gets a 5% CPU/PG reduction per level. Then lower the total amount of CPU/PG given to the logi suits. This way they can still fit all their equipment but if they won't be able to ignore equipment so they can use all the high-end modules to make an uber-assault class like they do now. |

There is a witch hunt going on Logis right now because people think there have to be "defined" classes and that we should never stray from those definitions of our class. That's how CoD and Battlefield is. You pick a loadout and you are stuck between the parameters of that loadout. Battlefield is my preferred FPS and that is how it is, if I pick a class I have to stick to that class's playstyle. However the bright side to that model is that you can use all the classes as you want, they level up separate from each other and you can use all of them. Dust isn't like that, you pick YOUR class and you are stuck with it. The bright side to that model is that you can tailor your class to your own play style needs as opposed to having to follow what some game debate decided for you.
I am an Amarr Logi, and I know that once the Caldari suit is nerfed that the QQers are going to go after mine. Why? Because the Amarr is SUPPOSED to be an assault logi but people think Logis should be left to the back of the lines, only rezzing, repairing, and resupplying. They want us to be their butlers on the battlefield.
I'm not some dudes butler. My last game I got a 12/4 K/D count and I'm using Std/mlt gear. A gut in the random squad I joined got a 24/6 K/D count with ADV gear. I beat him for 1st, got kicked out of the squad with the message "ur not a real logi". I beat him for first because not only was I able to kill with my militia AR, but I stopped to rez and heal anyone and everyone in my squad and team. Hell if I was a full on assault, I probably would have came away with 24+ kills. Is that so wrong?
To the Assault QQers, if I'm doing your job better than you are while still doing my job much better than you ever could; then just HTFU and learn to play.

First off, allow me to start this by stating that I view myself as a Logi first and foremost.
Heavies: 1. What do you think their main role should be?: Area Control/Point Defense. 2. Any secondary roles?: Anti-Installation/Anti-Vehicle DPS 3. Advantages: Ridiculous EHP, as in more than a full dually-tanked LAV; Disadvantages?: Tectonic plates move faster than they do. 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be?: No, not IMHO.
Assaults: 1. What do you think their main role should be?: Full Frontal Assault in small gangs on objectives. 2. Any secondary roles?: Solo harassment of enemy gangs, murdering scouts who think they are Rambo. 3. Advantages: Most balanced dropsuit, most tank of the non-heavies; Disadvantages?: Most balanced dropsuit, least number of equipment slots. 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be?: No, they are too capable of things other than their intended role.
Scouts: 1. What do you think their main role should be?: Intelligence gathering. 2. Any secondary roles?: Assassination of stragglers, forward operator (setting up drop uplinks, scanning enemy positions), sniper harassment 3. Advantages: Speed, Stealth; Disadvantages?: Stiff breeze kills them 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be?: Closer than Assaults, though no, not where they should be IMHO.
Logis: 1. What do you think their main role should be?: Battlefield facilitation. 2. Any secondary roles?: Creation of FOBs utilizing equipment. 3. Advantages: Able to field the most equipment, increases survivability of squadmates; Disadvantages?: Lack of combat efficacy (Light Weapon slot should be swapped for a Sidearm slot) 4. Are they currently what they are supposed to be?: Moreso than Assaults, though still not ideal IMHO. |

Heavies there role is to weaken and scare the enemy making it easier for your teammates to take out the enemy
Assaults are frontline jack of all trade people ready to kill but can also slightly help the team
Scouts are for Scouting obviosuly and also flanking and quickness. The Scout can easily weaken someone move to cover take advantage of the amazingly fast shield enhancement (the rate that the shields come back) and kill a guy before his shields have even started to charge.
Logs are great for helping the team and also can fancy a little bit of killing on the side. With 3 equipment slots but no secondary they can help a lot. |
