Okay, I've tried everything and I still can't get my headset to work. I've made sure everything is set up properly. I have my headset selected in the accessories tab on the PS3 (it's a Turtle Bay PLa. It's USB connected). I have voice chat enabled and push to talk off. I can activate voice in different rooms and/or squads. I have the blue mic symbol and I can hear myself in my headset, but no one else. I've even checked my router and opened the ports and nothing has worked. I can't think of anything else to try. Did I skip any steps? What else can I do? |

Is there a dial on it to raise and lower chat and game volumes? I have one of the Afterglow models and sometimes I hit the dial causing it to screw up my mic as well. Also what is the volume set to on your PS3? Sometimes headsets are really quiet and your friends are just literally not hearing you. Sorry if you already tried these, but sometimes its the simple stuff you miss. |

No, checking on the simple stuff should always be the first step IMO, so no worries there. It does have a chat volume on the headset and it is turned all the way up (ditto with mic on/off switch on it). I can hear myself in my headset and I've checked the volume of it on the PS3 as well. Seems fine. Both input and output are set to the headset within the accessories setting. I've re-downloaded the client 3 different times since I started fighting with the thing too.

Yes. The Turtle Beach line specifically says it's usable with the PS3 (and the PC, but that's neither here nor there). I got it with that idea in mind. Here's a link to the specific headset I have: http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/ps3-headsets/ear-force-pla/343 |

I have a usb razer mouse and it waa tricky to set up. I set mic to the headset, but the output to my tv. I hang the headset around my neck and talk into the mic, but the other players come from my tv. Its wierd I know, but it is worth a try for a tempory fix. |

For what it's worth, I have this same headset and can confirm that they do work on the ps3. Sorry that's not much help to you though One thing I noticed from your description, you say you can hear yourself in the headset? The only time I hear myself is when I'm changing the mic volume in ps3 accessories menu, Is that what you mean? Or you can hear yourself whenever the mic is on? Because I'm not sure that's supposed to happen... |

Well, Dosh's idea failed.... Zaria: I hear myself all the time. It's the only voice I DO hear! If I'm not supposed to, then that is a problem. One that I don't know the answer to, but a problem all the same. Anybody know if that would be headset related and if so, what to do about it?

I've put in a report (twice now) as was recommended via the technical petition thread and I'm waiting for a reply. As far as I've been able to tell, I've followed every protocol and made every attempt on my end that I can think of. It's the last thing I can do, considering I think I've tried everything else. If they don't respond, then I'm out. I know this is beta, but it shouldn't be this difficult to get the voice chat right. MAYBE when it's out of beta, I'll come back, but this has put such a fowl taste in my mouth that I doubt it. Thank you everyone that have attempted to help me with this problem. If they don't get back to me and the worst happens, the only reason I'd want to come back is because of the people that play it. You've all been awesome and I thank you for your time. I hope to see you all in game, but we'll see from here. |

Sorry I couldn't respond again earlier, I just got home from work. Now I have a feeling that the issue here is not that the headset doesn't work in Dust, but that it for some reason just isn't working properly at all... Might be a connection issue, might be a settings issue, might be something else. Have you tired if you can make voice chat work in any other game, or tried the playstation network voice chat?
Also, you say that you can only hear yourself on the headset, how about game audio? Does that come through the headset, like it should? |

I needed to sleep anyways. I hear the game audio just fine and I checked the headset with other games and it works. The only one where it doesn't is Dust. If it works with other games, I'm fairly certain my settings are correct. |

My brother recently got a Turtle Beach MW3 Ear Force Delta wireless headset and was having some audio issues. He could hear voice chat, and could chat with me in game, but no game audio was going through (I know this isn't related to your problem, but I'm getting there hopefully). So he asked me to give it a whirl and see if it worked. Needless to say, it works. Here's what I did.
First (relating to game audio issues), ensure that your entire device is hooked up by the proper means. Make sure cables are connected from your PS3 or TV to the receiver supplied with the headset (if any).
Next, go into "Sound Settings" in your XMB and be sure to choose the specific output method that will direct audio to your headset receiver. In my case, I chose Optical. The next screen will show different sound qualities. Select any which apply to you. Click finish and you should hear your XMB sounds in your headset as you scroll through your options.
For voice chat, you will have to either pair your headset with the PS3 via Bluetooth (if applicable), or setup the PS3 to allow communications with the headset. I'm not familiar with wired headsets so bear with me if my information on those particular devices is incorrect. But they should be somewhat similar.
Go to "Accessory settings" in the XMB. If you have a Bluetooth headset, select "Manage Bluetooth Devices". Scan for new devices and make sure your headset is discoverable. When the PS3 locates the device, follow the procedures provided by your headset to pair the 2 together. You'll then see a blue light next to your listed device, indicating that the device is paired, and connected. When done, or if you have a wired headset, go to the next step.
In the XMB, go to "Accessory Settings" > "Audio Device Settings". Here you'll be able to redirect voice audio where it needs to go to. "Input Device" should be your headset. "Output Device" can be your TV, headset, stereo, whatever you wish. You should also be able to speak and hear yourself from whatever your output device is currently set to. If you can hear yourself, then you're set.
Note that some (if not all) headsets where the earpieces cover your entire ear has a feature that allows you to hear yourself speaking through your mic. This does NOT mean others can hear you. This feature is implemented to compensate for the lack of being able to "hear yourself" via your own ears. Because you have something covering your ears, it's sometimes necessary to hear yourself through your headset's speakers so you don't slur your speech. While in "Audio Device Settings", not only should you hear yourself immediately when speaking, but you should hear yourself a second time afterwards. There's also a sound meter bar above that will light up if the microphone is registering with the PS3. If this is the case and you both hear yourself a second time as well as see the sound meter lighting up, then your microphone is set up properly, others will be able to hear you, and it should work in all games.
If this doesn't work in DUST, make sure that voice chat is ON and Push To Talk is OFF in DUST's options screen.
Try all of these and see if it works for you. As someone already said, sometimes it's the simple things that you miss. If none of these worked... well I'm sorry. I've done my best. Perhaps you should get another headset or contact CCP and ask for their support.
Hope this helped. Good luck. |

It may sound silly, but in the chat areas, try clicking the 'unmute all' tab. A guy in our corp had one guy muted somehow, and it drove him crazy for a couple of weeks.
Nothing more frustrating than headset issues, especially when it's only in one game. |

Bro i use the same Headset:
As far as mistakes i've done, they are usually the simplest.
1-Check both Game volume and Chat volume are up in your headset. 2-In accessory settings, make sure you have both input and output set with your turtlebeach headset. 3-In options DUST, Push to talk OFF 4-Enable Chat ON. 5-And lastly, and i always forget this one, when you are in a squad, hit X on the SQUAD tab,and hit ACTIVATE CHAT.
Following these steps always gets my mic up bro. |

Unfortunately, I've tried all of these options so far. I'm in school for computer programming, so I've tried to be as systematic with this as I would be when writing code. I've been in contact with CCP and so far, they've only given me options that I've already tried (uninstalling and removing the cache and all that). I plan to go through them step by step again, just in case, but I'm not holding my breath. On the bright side, if I ever get this to work, I'll know exactly how to fix it if someone else ever has this problem, but damn is it annoying! |

If you have a PS Eye, remove it and restart the PS3. It contains a mic and DUST will favour any alternative microphone over your headset just to spite you.
If you check your accessory/sound settings, whichever one lets you configure sound input, can you see whether you can get the input to register there? |

Forward port 50000 on your router to your PS3 IP address, make absolute certain that upnp is not turned on as it can reserve this port thus blocking the ps3 request to use the port to sonys network. |

Whatcha talkin bout, Gray?
50000 wasn't mentioned in the port forwarding thread here, so I haven't tried that yet. If it doesn't work and I get a virus from it, I'm going to assume you're trying to eliminate all other Shades from Dust, Emry3. :) Thanks for the suggestion! |

I have this same problem with voice chat not working. Hasn't worked since Chromosome was released. Have tried changing all settings, and 3 different headsets (Turtle Beach PX11, Sounblaster Omega Tactic 3D, and a bluetooth mic). All work in PS3 settings, but none in Dust.
When I turn voice on in a channel I cannot even hear the audio of others; green light will come up indicating that I have it activated but I do not see the speech bubbles next to anyone's name. Yet on the vary rare occasion it just starts working randomly, usually in the middle of a match. If it does this (has happened 3 times in 6 months) then it seems to last until I exit Dust.
The fact the settings work, that it doesn't work for multiple headsets, and that it works occasionally without me changing anything makes me think that this is a Dust software issue. |
