Ok so first i will start by saying i think this game has a ton of potential. I have been playing it for one week today so right b4 the 3x xp event ended. Correct me if i am wrong but the official launch of the game is on the 14th of this month right? If this is true then i am a bit confused. How is it that you plan on attracting "new" players to a "new" game. when at the release of it thee are many a ppl running around in proto suits and all types lvl 5 **** OS all the new players? Now im not on here to troll but i'm just saying there has to be some way to compensate for players. Though i am sure this would be very unpopular with all you guys that did so much in beta to make game what it is, but i am surprised that everyone is keeping all there sp and not resetting? I mean lots of games give special items to ppl that run in beta but not to often do you see ppl start a new game with so much of a lead when it hasnt even officaily been realeased yet. There are many ways you could still allow for all the vets to keep there sp they have obviously earned, but also make it more firendly so that ppl coming in to play a new game are actually going to enjoy it and have a chance to get in the game. The most obvious is to signifcantly raise the SP cap untill you reach a certain amount one that would give you the chacne to compete and not get ran all over.
I am sure this has already been addressed and to be honest i dont do forums much so maybe maybe not here from me again but i am a avid player of FPS and i love the mmo aspect and depth of this game. I can see my self sticking around for while but i dont think many would.
Hope you reallly reallly really listen to this and take it for what it is.
All you fellas been rocking it out in beta i aint mad at ya, but you have to understand where im coming from.
More importantly i hope ccp does. Anyways thanks

CCP are between a rock and a hard place. It's not a good enough game experience to pull players away from the big guns and if they reset everything, they stand to lose a lot of the 3 or 4 thousand people that are already playing.

1 simple solution is to have different 'tiered' rooms, allowing militia to face milita, adv v adv and so on.
They had this previously, and it has been brought back up in subsequent builds. You will also likely see boosters the multiply your SP earnings. they introduced the Omega booster not long ago which was a 2.5x boost, but had to pull it cause it didnt work properly.
right here and right now, yes you have cause for concern, but the focus right now is getting core gameplay and several other issues that have changed in this build to achieve functionality before the release.
I'm sure your concerns are also being addressed, and they are working to implement something to make the day 1 player enjoy the experience rather than just being stat padders for scrubs like me |

Also, instead of 500k sp offer to new players, i really think it should be abit more like 1mil or 1,5mil, alas unfair to older players because we all started with 500k but in all honesty we want this game to suceed, and that will only happen with an influx of new players, and to make the argument more valid the Sp tree reinforces this. |

Solution is right here. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=74752&find=unread
Fact is CCP was ready to do this in February but some people complained and hysteria took over and here we are in this position.
While i prefer a fully uncapped system since character can only grow so far. I think an Uncapped system until 20M is reached and then a hard/soft cap system like we have now is a good enough system. For starters players still have to invest that 20M properly if they mismanage it well then oh well HTFU.
Additionally the system is clearly there in place. IF you look at bonus SP remaining it functions as a bank that is added to your current SP as you play and bonus SP from boosters is applied after its withdrawn from that reserve and added to your SP total.
So instead make the system so you have a 20M SP pool and active play allows you to grind every ounce of that out as fast or slow as you want and after which you are throttled(just like any data plan).
Over time we can always add more to the initial reserve uncapped SP before cap takes effect.
In essence you are treating the SP system like a data plan, where you have full speed until you reach a preset limit and then you are throttled. Instead of limiting that on a week to week basis(something that made sense during beta when we are all on equal footing) it will not help new players at all.

How many times must we repeat this?
The game is borked due to balance issues and bugs, not because some people have more SP than you. While I think players under 4mil or so should have their own arena I can't honestly say a reset is necessary. I play on an alt, on which I have ~1mil sp and do ok. If you're getting raped you need to reevaluate your tactics and your skill.
1 mil SP. I play smart on that alt. I do ok with 1 mil.
You've been playing for one week and you're somehow learned in what the player base needs? Did you stop to think about what you were writing?
You want everyone back at your level because you are bad, and feel entitled to something. Guess what, you aren't owed anything and in 6 months time you will still be bad at this game because rather than learning to find your niche or harden up you'll be crying CCP isn't accommodating you enough.
There are always going to be better players than you regardless of whether or not you started with 500k or 10 mil SP.

Militia only matches. Why why WHY are there not militia only matches? There is no PROPER tutorial. New players NEED somewhere to get used to the game, build confidence and make contacts. Before they come across a full squad of RofL, EoN, CRONOS or Negative feedback (don't know your tags, sorry) or even PFBHz. It's not about what's fair, lore, or anything else. It is about profit, and increasing the player base. There are militia grade AUR items. See the link between militia only games and profit? New players will only run predominantly militia based fits while they learn & earn. See the link between militia only games and an increase in players? Seems pretty obvious to me.
Nothing stops any of the above mentioned groups joining militia only games, and owning in similar gear to the nOObs. That's good times, and nOObs can learn from them. Anything less is stupid beyond belief. |

Been asking for this since for about 6 months. I have no idea why CCP is dragging their feet on this but the game is going to suffer because of it.
Hey CCP, I'm doing my part. I'm telling people about Dust and doing the work of your marketing department. How about you meet me halfway and at least make the game a little more engaging for the new recruits. Pubstomping new players and gear grinds using huge SP sinks are not compatible with "grass roots marketing", not the positive kind anyway. |

Look, the fundamental problem with a full reset is that it is a temporary solution. If we reset to accommodate new players now, why should we not do it at some point in the future?
I don't really mean to be rude, or offend you, but I'm frustrated by and intolerant of the overwhelming number of posts begging to reset. It is simply not a viable long-term solution and only considered justified by people who believe they are somehow being 'robbed' by the vets. This game was never intended to be fair for everyone all the time.
As I said in my post I'm all for a separate area for new players. I'm surprised CCP hasn't implemented something like this already to help keep people from walking away from this game. |

I agree with Iskandar- Even though there should be a separate newberry section of the game, this game is set in New Eden. As such, it is designed to be essentially unfair.
A new pilot in Eve shouldn't expect to even damage a Titan in his first day, just like a Merc running with militia shouldn't expect to make a dent in a Prototype Tank with fully skilled and trained gunners. Dust isn't a game about K/D or warpoints, it's a game to learn more faster than everyone else.
Also, YuKnow, don't bring up COD or Swat in order to prove your supremacy. It REALLY doesn't work on these forums. Dust is not COD or Battlefield, and someone who would easily fail out of those games might be the top ranked for this one... and vice-versa.
CCP should make it easier for new players, but there's no way to avoid the learning curve in the long game. Eventually, every player will have to deal with players who are far more experienced than them. |

What kind of idiot craps on the new guy who comes here to share his opinions. It's the elitist entitled attitude that does the most damage around here.
I'm in the camp that thinks we should group new players into a limited SP playing pool and allow them to opt out (and back in) until they hit some earned SP threshold. Over time, with growth, it would be possible to maintain more than two pools if that made things better (as the top end of the game could be enhanced to provide more advantages over time). |

He was stating the usual-ness of a beta operating the way we currently are, and offering his thoughts on a way to keep new players from being stomped out of the game.
You should take a moment to comprehend what you read before you react with anger and insults, simply not a good way to propegate a valid discussion.
Thank you for playing this game, as you own a piece of its success, but you dont own ideals or opinions of other people and you certainly dont own the right to tread on people for voicing theirs.
Yuknow, you have a leg up, you have found a home with a corp that values your thoughts and will fight with you on your own progression as well as expect you to grow and support them in theirs.
I believe that eventually this issue will be explored and a solution will be found. This point has been brought up too many times for it not too. With the CPM on our side and cohesive voices in the forums we can and will win the day.
Stay informed, keep posting your opinions, its the only way CCP will know that there are things that need to change. Have faith that they will and presence of mind to foster change brother.

I never suggested it was a need to reset i simple suggested that some system needs to be put in place and though that would be a unppullar one is a possibility for new game. However i agree with you that it is not a long term solution which is why i also suggested taht a cap limit to be reached by new players would be diffrent this thread was not to take shots at vet players that have help build this game up. This thread was intended for ccp to see from a new player what i see coming to it.
I am loving all the coments on this topic and my only hope is that ccp sees this and says hey there are some great ideas in here lets make something happen. Something that is good for everyone.

You agree with what there should be a seperate section??
I dont understand what is not clear here. This Game does not officialy relase until the 14th that means all the **** in beta should been for testing and The actual game comes out and all the players start plying for real.
Besdies the COD etc issue was not to prove anything i was simply defending my ability to game. Besides that though there is a mmo aspect to this game it is more then anything a FPS. I mean it doesnt take rocket science to see that you need to upgrade your shields and your armor or to figure out what role you want to play. So yea i mean unless you assume that all ppl that play COD games have no moo experiance or for that mattter no commmon sense I dont really see what is sooooooo complex about this game that someone would struggle to play it lol.

Thanks bro =)
I was starting to wonder if i didnt type what i was trying to say or not lol.
Yea i do hve a good corp many ppl willing to listen and help. So though i am a noob in the sp section dont think i wont be grinding to catch up. I also have all the right ppl for the direction to be Epic on this game.
But as capone said I am only trying to get a thought out there so ccp can find a way to address it so that players that are not quite as gritty will actually want to come play this game.
TBH atm i have sugggested this game to no one. Reason being is this issue right here.

What to do?
honestly I think it could pull players from the big guns. IF proper thought is put into it.
I always play all the new black ops and COD. But they get old after you diamond everything i mean are fun but nothing left to do. This having a mmo aspect to it opens a lot doors to draw a lot ppl in cause you are never really done. Think it needs to have some controller sensitvity and FPS issues resolved. However over all i think it is nice.
The problem i see is that while maintaining that in mmo you have to put work in to get your char lvled up etc. Lots mmo run event server etc with accelerated xp and merge.
This game though has confused me as i have just started playing in beta and now is bout to go live but it is not beta it was head start on game. So i think that really hurts there chances of gettting new ppl cause it is not a NEW game. It is bout 6 months old. So if wasnt playing in beat i dont think many are going to find any interest in coming to it now.
Those are my thoughts though.

No actually i read that to. But makes no difference cause i wont play in no ******* noob room as i am no noob. None of what was addressed on that changes anything that i suggested in this thread. So b4 making smart ass remarks, even better remarks that reffer to a post that was made after this thread started (2-3 days ago) try to understand what is fundamentally wrong with the unbalnce of new player coming into a New game. Not the fact they got a gay room for new players to start in. Are they going to play in there for 6months to get into the main room only to find out they are still behind? lol

There have been some very good suggestions made in this thread that, in the future, will help to alleviate the gap between veterans and new players who join late.
Unfortunately, unless these suggestions are implemented within the next four days, they will do nothing to help the new players at launch.
Yes, there will always be new players joining the game, and they will always be at a disadvantage against long-term vets but, on launch day, this game will inevitably see the largest single influx of fresh meat that it is likely to see at any one time. These new launch players will be the one's who, based upon their first impressions of this game, will stay or leave, recommend it to their friends (or recommend that they avoid it at all costs), and who, depending upon their reactions, will ultimately determine hoe successful the game is.
These are the new players that CCP needs to worry about RIGHT NOW.
There's a saying "you never get a second chance to make a good first impression".
What do you think their first impression of this game will be, if they're immediately outclassed and outgunned by seasoned veterans who are more skilled, better organized, and clearly equipped in drastically superior gear, that these new players cannot possibly hope to obtain for several months?
Does anyone honestly believe that, with so many other far more forgiving FPSs available on the console market, that they'll shrug their shoulders and say "Oh well, this IS New Eden, after all. I guess I'd better just HTFU and start grinding!"
Does anyone think that, after getting Protostomped against clearly unfair and seemingly unsurmountable odds, that they're likely to recommend this game to their friends?
Or do you think that it is more likely that they'll just delete it and play some other game that they think they might actually stand a chance of success at? After all, it's not like they'd have anything to lose. It was free to try, so it won't cost them a single penny to just walk away.
Just think about this situation realistically, from the point of view of the new player. Does this not cause you at least some concern about the future of this game, and how successful it might be versus how successful it COULD be?
Because it should. |

Yes, there will always be new players joining the game, and they will always be at a disadvantage against long-term vets but, on launch day, this game will inevitably see the largest single influx of fresh meat that it is likely to see at any one time. These new launch players will be the one's who, based upon their first impressions of this game, will stay or leave, recommend it to their friends or recommend that they avoid it at all costs, and who, depending upon their reactions, will ultimately determine how successful the game becomes.
Very very very well said and you are absolutely right. Thanks a great deal for your post Erik |

The good news is that it looks like a mtchmaking system that'll separate the new players from the beta vets WILL be ready in time for launch after all! |

CCP can do another respec then lock the SP so we cant touch it for awhile until they see fit, when the game's cycle of new players catchs up,we'd still have all are SP just in the bank. |

Very good idea. I dont know i just hope they are willing to address this soon cause as that other guy said that when they release it You dont get a second chance to make s first impression. It is true so though the match making is a quick fix it does not do anything to the balance long term but love your idea great one. Thanks for comment.
