Dust 514 won't die.
3000 players is enough to keep it alive for years.
Those 3000 players are before CCP even puts out advertisements.
Summary: Doom Sayers are wrong. .. I think you just explained why Starhawk failed and why CCP is following suit... 3000 players for a progressive game is not the same as 300 players on a game where everything is handed to you from day one.
Not to mention Starhawk and other multiplayer games get their money up front from game sales CCP is trying to get paid little by little. Player list will only tell you so much about Dust's success. For example I am still playing Dust, but I'm not buying anymore aurum thanks to CCPs lies about aurum refund for BPO and because they made it less fun to play. But fortunatly for CCP I was foolish enough to give them my $60 before this garbage release build |

Your game had so much promise. Guess what? You killed your own game!
Out of the millions who downloaded the game, only 5k max are ever on! That was on new build day only!
You know the game is in trouble when the numbers are down and it's SP reset day. Usually a lot more players get on to grind there measly SP they get for a week.
Welcome to the Real World CCP!
Nobody is going to play a game for a month just to get a dropsuit, a weapon, some supporting skills! That's obsurd! One month to just get one item, one decent item! And that's if you pay for the boosters!!!
Then you have to the nerve to limit everybody on how much SP anybody can earn a week.
You make the game a job! As most players know, having a job isn't that fun! We play games to have fun! Not to think of it as work!
Then you make the gameplay unbearable! Blob/trench warfare is not fun! You nerfed everything into oblivion! Anything that was fun, is not enjoyable anymore! I thought this was a Sci-fi shooter, not some bore-fest 514.
Only developer to have the whole community complaining about everything!
No wonder why nobody is playing this game! The game sucks!
Welcome to the Real World CCP!
i don't like zitro but why did they change everything that was fun about the game
Obviously all the EVE carebear kids still like the game, because it caters to blob and trench fighting with endless grinding versus basing an FPS around player skill. |

Straw man argument.
Remember all those ppl who argue that it should take a year to get into proto gear becuase its proto gear and ppl counter that new players cant face the grind and ppl retort well its not a grind it force ppl to specialize since you can only take a skill to level 5 anyway.
Ill save the back and forth here and simply state if the game isnt a grind and players all can end up in the same endpoint anyway it doesnt matter
As certain vets like to reminds newbies, you characters only get wider not taller.
So veteran advantage comes in the form of versatility not extra power. And with no cap new players can pick a role and grind it out to speciality.
If they spread themselves out then they effed themselves but they can find a corp to set them straight and GRIND it out. See thats the point of ppl who grind in FPS. They do it temporarily so they can get to a level ground.
So yea no-lifers can grind till their hearts content as long as im a new player and can max out a single speciality quickly i can go hunt them down, after all i cant play a logi and a heavy at the same time.

One of the problems is that the elite players are operating under a completely different paradigm than CCP. The players want to maximize every advantage over their peers, while the devs want to create an ecosystem where proto gear is relatively rare outside of "big deal" fights.
CCP clearly wants prototype gear to be a long term goal for new players (obtainable slightly earlier via intense specialization), and for most of the day to day fighting to be done in standard and advanced suits. Meanwhile, we mercs don't even consider ourselves competitive until we have a full suite* of proto gear.
They still need to fix aiming, though. I didn't think making it worse than Chromosome was even possible, but somehow they managed. |

CCP is near being in the same position of Zipper.
1st. The player base doesn't likes CCP anymore and people flood the forums 2nd. The faith on delivering a game worth playing starts to vanish 3rd. Acceptance of the current game-play 4th. Further rage quit and departure of the core players. 5th. Randoms playing random pub matches. 6th. PROTOGOD was right and a monument is built to remember that he was right calling this game trash 7th Game Over
The FPS business segment is extremely competitive and as of now looks like CCP will fail to deliver a decent game, that will at least be able to maintain a core of players with decent skills to call the attention of other core players. |

All those tiger tears are hilarious...clearly from people who never played EVE and went through rebalancing cycles there. If they had they'd realise it will still be a success because the complex and challenging play style appeals to a lot of "hardcore" players who tend to stick around for longer.

Lack of advertising, poor sales, VERY unbalanced for the first month so word was mouth advertisement was bad.
Generally it had a terrible spawn problem in the beginning since the weapons were so OP one side would get into the other sides base and kill them till the end of the game. |

free to play =/= free to produce
Income needs to come from somewhere obviously, they will add expansions and crap gear, per se a population of 300 players will hardly pay for the staff salaries and the fixed costs involved in maintaining the servers. Once a competitive position has been lost it will require an enormous amount of investment to make it appealing again and it will still be a MAYBE. |

Psh, I'm sorry this is such a big thing. Hundreds of games would kill for our playerbase and numbers...
And we're just about to launch and advertise it to the world. Gentlemen, this game is by no means the greatest piece of software or the grandest of ideas, but it is one of the most dynamic and fun communities I've ever played with. Not to mention the promise a deep and immersive science fiction. Doom is for the doomed; Adapt and overcome.
