After the Uprising update, my PS3 started to shut off by itself. I thought it was a glitch because it's never done that before. ( and this build is super glitchy ) After the third time I decided to stop playing Dust for fear of my PS3. My fears were correct as now it does it on other games too..
There are MULTIPLE threads about this in the bugs section of the forum, but I wanted to start a thread here because it's the most used section.
Just wanted to let people know before multiple PS3s die to this game. |

Your PS3 is dying. Soon you'll get the YLOD (yellow light of death)
I suggest copying date to an external HD. If today was the first time it started, then you have some time...maybe. Mine lasted less than 2 months before I officially saw the yellow light. |

This happened to my 6 year PhatS3.
Dust uprising skullfuk'd it to death.
But! my new slim is silent. It's awesome to hear dust SFX without what sounded like a fanboat racing across the everglades.
And I got a Guristas Saga BPO with the purchase. The thing is w00t. |

This same problem is happening to me on my release day 60gb fatboy. It YLOD about 2 years ago, opened it, fixed it no problems since. There is something wrong with the build and CCP needs to address this situation immediately before more Ps3's get this problem, or worst, YLOD. I have done intensive testing, cleaning, running other games, and the conclusion is this is 100% software problems on CCP's side due to the new build. I have ran both disc based games and games off the HDD since and they have not turned off my ps3 after leaving them on for over an hour like Dust will do in 20 minutes. Been running a game on the HDD for 3 hours and no such issues. |

That's what I thought Sunday. did you clean it once a month? I hit the fans with air compressors and then vacuum the remaining dust out. My PS3 is usually left on 24 hours a day while I am at work or away from home.

I actually keep my PS3 relatively clean in a well ventilated space ( there's nothing around it ). I honestly wouldn't be making a thread if it was just me, or I thought it was just my PS3s time to die.
Since it's happening to multiple people on the exact same day from the same build, and they're all using fat PS3s, I can only come to one conclusion as the reason why.
I'm just trying to warn others. |

It froze on me once, but that was when I was logging off from the merc quarters. I suggest elevating your phatS3 with a couple of small blocks so that air can pass under it to prefer the shelf or desk from reflecting heat back into the console. Works wonders for me. |

My release-day 60GB backwards-compatible PS3 lasted long enough for me to apply for the closed beta, then died the next day - before I got in.
I had it for a good 4 years (and a few months). About a week before I got my new PS3, I got a code for the beta. That's what I call timing. |

So you froze? the problem we are having is that our ps3 is just flat out turning off outta the blue. |

my phats3 is only 2 years old (bought it for Christmas so I could -play this game) So I'm not sure if this would actually happen to me. I've only been able to this build for about 30 minutes today, and I've had no problems. But now, after reading this... I am hesitant to run the game again until the game is patched. |

well first time i ran it it went smooth for like 2-3 hours, then it just got bad, like every 20 minutes. Is it a backwards compatible version? |

If you have the money, trade up to a slim. If not, I would look into making the first move and do some preventative maintenance before something goes wrong. Good luck. |

I'm not worried about purchasing a new system, I can fix that poblem, the problem is that the software from this most recent build is crashing with the hardware of the phatty ps3's. CCp need to figure out what it is and why. |

Dust514 is not the problem. YLOD is a hardware problem, it has nothing to do with what you're running. I got the YLOD on my phat ps3 last month. I took it to my local video game shop where a guy fixed it and everything has been good since. No changes in software or play time whatsoever.
edit: I realize you don't have the YLOD right now, but I'm running dust on my phat ps3 as we speak and I've been running it for like 12 hours. Your ps3 is clearly malfunctioning and phat ps3's have KNOWN hardware issues. It shouldn't be hard to fix. Good luck bro |

I dont have the YLOD, the game just shuts off, beeps, red light blinks, go to press to turn on, beeps again turns solid red, touch to turn on again and turns green and turns on as usual and goes to xmb. you will not get to the xmb with a ylod ever. |

Thing is, i took it all apart today, cleaned it head to toe, put it back together, and same thing. Tested on other games and hasnt done it. Maybe Uprisging is making the ps3 run harder or something. Might try to apply new heat sink gel tomorrow and see if thats a problem then, just wierd its not doing it on any other games for me at least so far. |

Do you remember how old it was?
I think there is a difference in fatty's over the years (there'd have to be). I suspect it's with 1st gen fatty's. |

That is a likely situation. Be glad you have this chance to back up your data. I paid someone to fix mine ($80) mostly because when you get YLOD there are very few ways to save your data and transfer it to a ps3 slim, since you can't operate your current ps3. And you can't just plug your hard drive into a new ps3 because when you do that, it auto formats it! |

I'm telling you it's YLOD cuz I had this VERY problem a few months ago. Shuts off randomly and beeps a few times. Turn it back on, no problem. I guarantee you that you can play games on discs for a while but ANY game running off your HD will crash. Soon you won't be able to play disc based games either.
