After the Uprising update, my PS3 started to shut off by itself. I thought it was a glitch because it's never done that before. ( and this build is super glitchy ) After the third time I decided to stop playing Dust for fear of my PS3. My fears were correct as now it does it on other games too..

There are MULTIPLE threads about this in the bugs section of the forum, but I wanted to start a thread here because it's the most used section.

Just wanted to let people know before multiple PS3s die to this game.

My fat PS3 is a juggernaught, 5 years strong and still going, it will make it to the PS4 release and beyond.

did you clean it once a month? I hit the fans with air compressors and then vacuum the remaining dust out. My PS3 is usually left on 24 hours a day while I am at work or away from home.

It froze on me once, but that was when I was logging off from the merc quarters. I suggest elevating your phatS3 with a couple of small blocks so that air can pass under it to prevent the shelf or desk from reflecting heat back into the console. Works wonders for me.

well first time i ran it it went smooth for like 2-3 hours, then it just got bad, like every 20 minutes. Is it a backwards compatible version?

If you have the money, trade up to a slim. If not, I would look into making the first move and do some preventative maintenance before something goes wrong. Good luck.

Dust514 is not the problem. YLOD is a hardware problem, it has nothing to do with what you're running. I got the YLOD on my phat ps3 last month. I took it to my local video game shop where a guy fixed it and everything has been good since. No changes in software or play time whatsoever.

I use a 60 gig Phat PS3 and have never problems with this build or the last shutting off my system.

I dont have the YLOD, the game just shuts off, beeps, red light blinks, go to press to turn on, beeps again turns solid red, touch to turn on again and turns green and turns on as usual and goes to xmb. you will not get to the xmb with a ylod ever.

That sounds like the same symptoms I had when I played Skyrim and Little Big Planet on my fat PS3 before it YLOD'ed. Its better to do preventative maintenance so you don't have to worry about corrective maintenance.

Thanks for feedback, glad to see its not all the phatboys. Thing is, i took it all apart today, cleaned it head to toe, put it back together, and same thing. Tested on other games and hasnt done it. Maybe Uprisging is making the ps3 run harder or something. Might try to apply new heat sink gel tomorrow and see if thats a problem then, just wierd its not doing it on any other games for me at least so far.

I'm telling you it's YLOD cuz I had this VERY problem a few months ago. Shuts off randomly and beeps a few times. Turn it back on, no problem. I guarantee you that you can play games on discs for a while but ANY game running off your HD will crash. Soon you won't be able to play disc based games either.

Your old PS3 is seeing its last days.
