This same problem is happening to me on my release day 60gb fatboy. It YLOD about 2 years ago, opened it, fixed it no problems since. There is something wrong with the build and CCP needs to address this situation immediately before more Ps3's get this problem, or worst, YLOD. I have done intensive testing, cleaning, running other games, and the conclusion is this is 100% software problems on CCP's side due to the new build. I have ran both disc based games and games off the HDD since and they have not turned off my ps3 after leaving them on for over an hour like Dust will do in 20 minutes. Been running a game on the HDD for 3 hours and no such issues. |

Maken Tosch wrote:It froze on me once, but that was when I was logging off from the merc quarters. I suggest elevating your phatS3 with a couple of small blocks so that air can pass under it to prevent the shelf or desk from reflecting heat back into the console. Works wonders for me. So you froze? the problem we are having is that our ps3 is just flat out turning off outta the blue. |

well first time i ran it it went smooth for like 2-3 hours, then it just got bad, like every 20 minutes. Is it a backwards compatible version? |

I'm not worried about purchasing a new system, I can fix that poblem, the problem is that the software from this most recent build is crashing with the hardware of the phatty ps3's. CCp need to figure out what it is and why. |

Joeman505 wrote:Dust514 is not the problem. YLOD is a hardware problem, it has nothing to do with what you're running. I got the YLOD on my phat ps3 last month. I took it to my local video game shop where a guy fixed it and everything has been good since. No changes in software or play time whatsoever. I dont have the YLOD, the game just shuts off, beeps, red light blinks, go to press to turn on, beeps again turns solid red, touch to turn on again and turns green and turns on as usual and goes to xmb. you will not get to the xmb with a ylod ever. |

Joeman505 wrote:I edited my post cause I realized it wasn't very clear. sorry Thanks for feedback, glad to see its not all the phatboys. Thing is, i took it all apart today, cleaned it head to toe, put it back together, and same thing. Tested on other games and hasnt done it. Maybe Uprisging is making the ps3 run harder or something. Might try to apply new heat sink gel tomorrow and see if thats a problem then, just wierd its not doing it on any other games for me at least so far. |

That sounds like the same symptoms I had when I played Skyrim and Little Big Planet on my fat PS3 before it YLOD'ed. Its better to do preventative maintenance so you don't have to worry about corrective maintenance. Took it all apart today and cleaned the dust out. Didn't help my DUST situation however. Gonna apply new heat sink gel tomorrow maybe. |

I'm telling you it's YLOD cuz I had this VERY problem a few months ago. Shuts off randomly and beeps a few times. Turn it back on, no problem. I guarantee you that you can play games on discs for a while but ANY game running off your HD will crash. Soon you won't be able to play disc based games either. Your old PS3 is seeing its last days. I've been running a different game off my HDD for now going on 3 hours just outta curiosity, and I'm gonna let it go all night. |

I think there is a difference in fatty's over the years (there'd have to be). I suspect it's with 1st gen fatty's. backwards compatible 60 gig so one of the 1st gen fatty model i do believe. My PS was also bought refurbished in November and went YLOD back in march but wasn't running dust was just in XMB looking at stuff on my system TBH I was at Walmart 30+ hours to get this baby day 1, I will never let it die. Prolly not gonna try DUST again until i hear back from ccp in my email, cant risk a free game taking my good phatty friend. I'm only afraid CCP will see this and think it's just an old ps3 about to YLOD and I'm 99% sure that is not the case. In any event maybe the build is just running the system harder than before and making my gpu get too hot combined with old heat sink paste. Will replace that tomorrow as it is the only thing that could be wrong on my end I can see after all the testing I've done. |

It YLOD two years ago and i fixed it, and if it does it again ill do it again, its too close to ps4 for me to buy another ps3 without backwards compatibility =)
That's the most disappointing thing. It's so close to the PS4, and because of someone's crap code, I have to make a crap decision. Exactly, well I'm done bumping this to the top, CCP will either see it and help, or ignore. I can't keep it up all night. Ill keep in touch with you if they respond to my email i sent to support an hour ago. |
