Let's not forget the only two days we've seen the stats for are at the end of the SP weekly cycle, meaning less people are going to be on in general. Sure it's a new build and all, but it's not as if you can't just try the new build on Wednesday.
I may sound like a hopeless optimist, but I think some people are waiting until the 14th when we get everything, so if we still have a max of 5,000 concurrent users (on a Wednesday) in in a month when people have had time to try the game after launch and the new PC feature, then we can/should start to worry. |

The dark cloud wrote:The game hasnt really beeing avdertised. Nor got it a good review. But when it hits comercial release you will see adverts and reviews on gaming sites/magazines etc. The thing is Dust hasnt beeing advertised properly. The only time where it was advertised was on the PSN store for like 1-2 weeks. Another thing is people dont like betas cause they are affraid to loose stuff. This game will grow sooner or later. And if the game wouldnt be a success so far then CCP wouldnt had removed UVT's. Give it time, proper ads, better matchmaking and you will see a drastic increase of numbers.
I agree the game isn't really that popular, it never really was. Plus the game has been in beta for so long that a lot of people that heard about it awhile back had forgotten it. I think some ppl overestimated just how many play dust. |

I believe 65,000 players online is still the record in EVE but it has 40k+ almost every day. Although it is subscription based unlike DUST. And honestly a decent number of those 40k+ are people dual boxing but still respectable numbers. |

Some clarification from CCP will be nice... the numbers are far to consistent all the way trough the day.
3000 to 4000 practicably all day, with lots of different time zones, people at work, people playing only for a couple of hours...etc.
So.. what is it ? |

Right... you see. You guys are panicking for nothing...
By my calculations is about 30,000 - 40,000 people playing every day.. on and off, different time zones... etc.
I may be a bit off... but that sounds about right. |

We're relatively consistent in player count, though rather low in numbers. REALLY low on player count, feels like closed beta numbers yeah i'll agree with that, on the plus side increases the chance we'll run into each other, on the downside it shows that dust has a terrible retention rate, we really need some form of matchmaking system for new players, like the training grounf(whatever its called) in COD where you go up against other low level players. that would be perfect. at this point, new players are going up against people with upwards of 10-15 mill SP. no matter how good they are, they are going to get stomped
This...buddy of mine on my friends list told me he just deleted it. With the new build and guys coming out of the gate in proto gear and new players trying to compete with this there is only so much HTFU people are going to take.

I'd make a quick guestimate that we have at least 10-20k players spread round the world, but i'm basing that off the 3 figures i saw for myself yesterday and today. they were 4,500 when I logged on(EU primetime, 10PM BST) 5000 when i logged of f(US primetime 2AM BST or about 7PM EST, correct me if i'm wrong) 2500 when i logged in today (3PM BST no ones idea of primetime, except maybe in asia or oceania) |

You can add another 10k to that numbers, from new players, casual players, and people that logs on and off to play other games.
But like i say... is just an estimate. |

It will be interesting to see how this does pan out numbers wise in the future, and how many CCP need to really make it worthwhile because after all players doesn't actually mean income for CCP.
I so far have only spent -ú15.99 on the Mercenary pack. I am sure there will be people who spend nothing and people who spent a lot more (to keep constant boosters, which I doubt I will be doing personally).
Time will tell I guess if CCP can make any money from Dust. |

CCP Pokethulhu basically said this; they won't start advertising until later when the game is more complete, and instead rely on word-of-mouth until then to ensure a slow growing but loyal core of players. |

The number we all see is the CCU (concurrent users online). For me it a really good number regarding A) it a beta, B) It Dust in the Eve universe, a geeky game for hardcore player, C) the game is far from what it should be.
Metrics usually tell us for hardcore game that 5k CCU could mean around DAU (daily active users) 40k to 50k DAU. Because I'm pessimism I would say we might have around 20h DAU, which it a good number for the current state of the game.
The game is fun right now, but is missing a lot of stuff to increase player's retention. I won't make a list here, but my expectation is CCP will do the same marketing/launch that Eve has. Silent, slow but consistence through the next decade... It proven that CCP is a profitable business and have a real dedicated fan base on Eve. I hope that will work on Dust too!

OK.... here's my take... not that it means much .
1) MAG still has about 1500-2000 people on at any given time, and that's a 3+ year old game that's in dire need of fixing (and it's a "released" game), and it will never be fixed. in fact it's gotten worse and worse according to it's forums.
2) PC (and "domination" mode) will bring new people. it will also keep those who hit their caps playing because there is a reason to play. attacking and defending districts will be a 24/7/365 thing. there will be NO shortage of things to do. right now, once someone hits their cap, they quit because there's nothing more to do for the week.
3) there is a mentioned fix to matchmaking... here...
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=786040#post786040
"Matchmaking GÇô we are working to put live an update to matchmaking on 5/14 that gets new players to play together, and keeps the vets and their proto gear away. For example: Entry to these battles will be limited by total warpoints earned per character and will prevent older players from joining. New players will not be presented with the existing instant battle queues however they can join a squad with veteran players and be pulled into other battles. Expect this change to hit TQ by next week and for more details from CCP Nullarbor you can go here.
We thank you for all your feedback that has been provided to us up to this point in Uprising, and are looking forward to more feedback from you with the CPM in our continued development of DUST 514 GÇô now and into the future GÇô in close collaboration with you, the users. As we bring Beta to a close on 5/14, we have all hands on deck to keep pushing updates and responding to your feedback. We sincerely thank you very much!"
4) massive amounts of new content are planed for the future. MTACs, fighters, more dropsuits, etc... keeping the game fresh and interesting.
this game has tons of potential, and it isn't even released yet. there will be advertising, both on TV and over the PS network. i've personally never participated in a beta before, and i find it very interesting. it's kind of fun (all be it frustrating at times) to watch a game develop over time. June will mark 1 year for me, and i know there are people on here that have been here from the start. believe me, this game has grown in leaps and bounds from just the year i've been playing. i have faith in CCP. it's just that since they aren't as big as Valve or Bungie or EA, they can't do as much as fast. keep your heads up, powder dry, and lock and load. it's going to be a fun ride .

I've been running this experiment since patch day, along with most of the people I know.
Results enumerated above.
And how do people think PC is going to fix these numbers when many of the people NOT playing are waiting for a respec because their class is no longer of any competitive use?
