Ok, I tried to say this yesterday and was misunderstood. This time I'll just get to the point: I can get people to try Dust, but I can't get anyone to stick around. This is a big problem if we want this game to survive. Players are revenue, obviously, but they are much more in New Eden - we need mercs to populate hundreds of battlefields, sooner or later. I love Dust, you love Dust, but most new players (in my circle) do not. This is real feedback from real life, I've only gotten ONE guy to even stick around and play a few times a month. Then he gets tired of being owned and turns it off. He's a smart guy, good at FPS. We need new players to keep playing or the game we are enjoying will lose profitability and go kaput. And look ridiculous on the Eve end, which is even worse. This is a report from reality - in my little city, Dust is not popular, people do try, and those people drop out soon after.
I am not crying about dying. I'm a freakin clone, man. (My proudest moments are distracting your attention to hack my next spawn.) But we need matchmaking or co-op PvE or something to keep noobs long enough for them to find out how deep and interesting this game is/will be. More RPG on shipside? Wives and kids? Battle vids on demand in quarters?
Somebody told me yesterday to "harden my kitten face" or something. Can't ignore that. Just want to say, been a real soldier, shot a real tank standing in my real boots. 302nd FSB 2nd ID (that's infantry division). Sign up |

My only advice to you is join an established corp big or small. If you don't have a full squad you will petty much be owned. |

sad 2 say this is CCP's official stance on the subject.
i too, have roped MANY real life people into this game and I TOO have met about a 95% fail rate.....
WAKE UP CCP!!!!
because of ccps' general stupidity im going to type this again, 95% OF ALL PEOPLE WHO PICK THIS GAME UP THROW IT OUT NEXT DAY!!!!
why is that? because ccp you fail at keeping promises!
at least when treyarch/activision wants to **** the FPS market they are blunt about it AND THEY DELIVER! sad to say ccp you may never be able to even say that because time and time again you fail your community and needlessly cast our judgments aside.
back 2 OP: so last week i just roped a coworker into dust514! played a couple matchs by himself & a few with my corp. he will no longer turn his playstation on because, (& i quote!) " this is what game companies are pushing onto kids these days? its pathetic to think that a video game studio could push a HUNK-O-JUNK like this onto the market and actually be successfull. me personally, i think CCP needs to go bankrupt before they make anything decent."
CCP YOU ARE LOSING BUSINESS FOR YOU AND SONY!!!!
he told me the next day that dust514 has also made him decide that he is going to buy an xbox720, get the new battlefield 4 and never think of another sony product again! he experienced so many glitches and problems, he stated that he would probably buy a ps4 on release day and break it right in front of gamestop just make a point to everyone!
ALL FROM DUST514
trust me you can't pin this on COD he hates treyarch now too lol

My experience: 1st a lil background. I like some but not all FPS, and I do well at them. I had a group of players from Brink who wanted me to jump onto Dust, I choose to level 15 characters on BL2 to max instead. So the day I finally download and jump onto dust, I sent my friend a message on PSN. He replies. I fire up dust join a Ambush match, see a guy with no gun play or skills what so ever, unload some AR rounds into his head, take a 1/4 shield off him before he turns around and drops me in a split second.... That last paragraph happens to A LOT of new players, I almost said F##K this. Meanwhile my friends in game are scrabbling around saying "**** he joined a public match, get him out!!". Knowing where my stance on these games is. Luckily They got me into Corp, gave me a very good explanation on the game, skills etc.
A large % of people trying Dust, will not have my situation, they will have to get their foot in the door, with no help. Easily a huge percentage of those players will turn the game off and delete it, before they even try that.
CCP should have a new N00B game mode. 1.5k SP and under. So that their 1st few matches, the ones that count when trying to entice players to stay. But at X2 sp rate, so they don't get to stick around there for too long. This will raise the success rate of new players, but also raise the quality for the seasoned players, due to removing the feared "blueberries" from their matches until the have at least 1.765% idea of what is going on
Also during load screens, how about skill/class/weapon hints, rather than an explanation of what "ambush" is. |

I work got a wife and kids but I still have time to play.. I told you this yesterday OP this aint COD etc get some boosters active and passive.. costs a few bucks and lasts for a month.
this last week had double or triple SP XP to earn. If you played atleast a hour or so with boosters your would have a decent merc dropsuit.
passive boosters earn you sp while you are offline. you have to explain to your friend you have to put in this game what you want out of it, this is why I love Dust514 you EARN everything you got.
Be a logi heal people drop ammo down and you will get points. Buy AUR blueprint dropsuits, weapons etc .. you pay one time with your money to buy aur and you will always have these dropsuits, weapons etc.
If you and your friend want to learn and play with a active corp my corp KiLo. is always accepting applications. we will answer any questions you may have or any tips to help you out |

That would be fine, but If after my 1st game someone told me, it's fine just throw some money at the game, you'll get better. 1st 2 thoughts my head "so this IS pay to win" and "kcuf that, pay for something I didn't enjoy when free" |

This is a problem right here, this "weigh class" idea and especially in the "feather weigh" division as this game will only have had a certain time frame where there will be a good portion of players in said class, and we are quickly running up to the point where they arent enough to run a full games of ambush and what have you as most players are quickly surpassing that SP count even on alts.
The only way I can see CCP fixing the issue that many of you are talking about is a tutorial "campaign" of sorts where a new player is a member of one of the four empires and does a short series of missions where they a rewarded with ISK, SP and some free skill books. In that campaign they learn through missions about all the devices and equipment in the game, get to get their hands on it all so they can make educated decisions later on, then are mustered out of their nations Army and become Cloned Mercs, at which point its big boy time and no more QQ because you didnt understand or play the tutorial. |

My idea was span from Crysis 2/3's >10 noob protection system. Maybe 1.5 would be too much, but say at 750k Sp, it would work, and would be easy to implement. You idea would take more work for CCP, but would help new players a lot also.
The main issue is there needs to be a small blast shield for new players, so that they can enjoy themselves, the reason we game. |

I think this is a great idea.
I don't mind his match making system and I hear what you are saying that at some point more people with be out of the Noob game, but all you have to do is show a wait list/timer for the Instant games, with the option to join the other if it is too long.
This way, they can decide i it is or is not worth waiting. |

I have friends who seem a little interested in Dust 514 after I talked about it with them, but I have strategically hold off on recruiting them. In fact, I even went as far as telling them to not join until AFTER May 6 when Uprising hits because I know how they will most likely react to the current Chromosome build we have right now.
That's what you should have done first. That way, they won't get so burned out from being PWNED so often in a half-finished game. |

Agreed, get a rookie tutorial in so they can get some skill books, isk, some loot to use down the road that sort of thing. Even make some missions and get some NPCs or something in there. |

I think CCP said during Fanfest that the new build will have better tutorials. However, I can't remember if they meant Eve Online's Odyssey expansion or Uprising. |

It's probably EvEs since there are still a few spots that leave the rookies lost in the sauce. Though a full actual tutorial for the rookies on Dust would be good. |

Look all I am saying is some sort of tutorial, outside of having to deal with others, may be the best way to get noobs up to speed to where they know WTF they are doing. Eve has this and it needn't be a long protracted event, something like a four part pve mission.
Mission One: Movement on the obsticle course alongside weapons training (HAV's, LAV's, Dropship Piloting) as well as a combat run with each suit type and the ability to pick up any item (militia quality) that will NOT follow you into the live game.
MIssion Two: Drone Invasion. You fight off some drones, have to set up a Droplink, Nano Hive, fight some more drones, call in an LAV to move to an objective on the other side of the map, fight some drones and capture an objective.
Mission Three: Faction Fight (still NPC's). Enemy Faction none clone troops are attacking a local "place". Call in a Vehicle, move to X. Capture CRU's and turrets, fight enemy. Slowly start to be overwhelmed, call in OB. For your heroism you are now a clone trooper.
Mission Four: Training wheel Mission, you are now a clone soldier and are on first clone mission and against other players. This is a training wheel battle that only others in the training missions can join, kind of like the recommended "feather weigh" class but this can be skipped.
All these missions would be able to be repeated up to say 750k SP, so if you missed something or wanted a refresher course you could still do so. If you want you can keep re-rolling toons to stay in that group, it wont benefit you as the skill books are hardly worth anything really. |

It's not even tutorials though. No tutorial can prepare you for a weeks worth of matches having your ass handed to you. I was one of the rare people who read the tutorials, died, learned from experience, and stuck it through. Many people I know honestly don't have the patients. We need a better matchmaking system and a better tutorial on how things like damage bonuses, shields, and armor work. These are more RPG-centric ideas that the FPS crowd isn't used to. I'm sure if once they figure it out, they will enjoy it, I did, but you have to let them figure it out without getting frustrated. |

The 1st three steps there could be merged into one, 10 minute interactive tutorial with ease. Main problem is this doesn't stop the 1st real view of the game new players get, Vizium to the face x100 |
