This is a problem right here, this "weigh class" idea and especially in the "feather weigh" division as this game will only have had a certain time frame where there will be a good portion of players in said class, and we are quickly running up to the point where they arent enough to run a full games of ambush and what have you as most players are quickly surpassing that SP count even on alts.
The only way I can see CCP fixing the issue that many of you are talking about is a tutorial "campaign" of sorts where a new player is a member of one of the four empires and does a short series of missions where they a rewarded with ISK, SP and some free skill books. In that campaign they learn through missions about all the devices and equipment in the game, get to get their hands on it all so they can make educated decisions later on, then are mustered out of their nations Army and become Cloned Mercs, at which point its big boy time and no more QQ because you didnt understand or play the tutorial. |

Look all I am saying is some sort of tutorial, outside of having to deal with others, may be the best way to get noobs up to speed to where they know WTF they are doing. Eve has this and it needn't be a long protracted event, something like a four part pve mission.
Mission One: Movement on the obsticle course alongside weapons training (HAV's, LAV's, Dropship Piloting) as well as a combat run with each suit type and the ability to pick up any item (militia quality) that will NOT follow you into the live game.
MIssion Two: Drone Invasion. You fight off some drones, have to set up a Droplink, Nano Hive, fight some more drones, call in an LAV to move to an objective on the other side of the map, fight some drones and capture an objective.
Mission Three: Faction Fight (still NPC's). Enemy Faction none clone troops are attacking a local "place". Call in a Vehicle, move to X. Capture CRU's and turrets, fight enemy. Slowly start to be overwhelmed, call in OB. For your heroism you are now a clone trooper.
Mission Four: Training wheel Mission, you are now a clone soldier and are on first clone mission and against other players. This is a training wheel battle that only others in the training missions can join, kind of like the recommended "feather weigh" class but this can be skipped.
All these missions would be able to be repeated up to say 750k SP, so if you missed something or wanted a refresher course you could still do so. If you want you can keep re-rolling toons to stay in that group, it wont benefit you as the skill books are hardly worth anything really. |
