Why is anyone shocked? We knew this already. But if you like the game, who cares what anyone says right? May 6 and dust is still pretty much the same, then prepare for the condemnation from every FPS and gaming community out there. But again if you like the game, who cares. |

That attitude would be fine, if Dust wasn't at risk of dying because of what others think, which will certainly be the case if Uprising isn't decent. |

my biggest concern is CCP said they are very interested in the PS3 for this year and next year
... what about 2015-2023? Multiplat? PS4? ???. Questions questions.
I hope it stays on PS3 for at least another few years. |

The problem is we don't have enough positive reviews/commentaries out there to combat this. We are not on Twitch.tv, nor are we a viable game on the major video game websites. In fact, most people will only see the negatives of Dust and as such won't even touch the game, which is horrible as the future of this game is dependent on an increase in players. The only thing we can hope for is to have a strong word of mouth, pulling in others through indoctrination.
How many MMOs have we seen fail, how many FPS have failed? Something needs to be done otherwise this game will be the next one to fall (I really hope it doesn't as this is one of my all time favorite games, one which I have spent a lot of time on and hope to continue this in the coming years). Further, how long can CCP afford to produce/update a game that is losing money as well as players? I think a perfect example of a failed FPS and partial MMO is Tribes Ascend. When it first came out the game was very popular, I remember seeing a show on Twitch.tv hailing it as the next great Esports game. However, almost a year later the game is close to being dead (yes they still have tournaments in Europe, however, the last time I logged in there was only half a dozen games being played).
I really believe we as a community need to come together and promote Dust, to show the rest of the world why this a great game. Yes, we have had an increase in activity thanks to Kain Spero and the tournaments he has put on, however, that is not enough. We need to push CCP to see that they are not doing enough, to realize that the future of their game is dependent on the interest of the public (will we ever get an Arena/Spectator mode?)
That is all,

I really wanted to like and play this game, However being in Beta for so long has turned me off.
Now that i find out that once beta is over stats wont be reset I feel like I have been left in the Dust... I was not impressed when i 1st played a few months ago so i decided since I bought the pack to get into the beta and once the game was released I would still have my items and everything would be perfect. But now that I find by waiting for the official release I have fallen behind, I see no reason to jump in and play with people who have way more skills than I. I do not want to play a game where i have to spend day/weeks trying to catch up to people because I chose start at a official release time.
Sorry to say, even if Dust gets great reviews at release I cannot see myself wanting to jump into a game where I am way out leveled/Skilled or what ever you would call it. |

it's very hard to combat the negative reviews when your trying to sell dust to a new player you've somehow managed to talk into DLing dust-
"dude the battles are cool the action is great!" = the first game is an ambush on communications map (meaning it's going to be mostly running) and is only 3 vs 4, a total of 7 players, for whatever reason, and the enemy team calls out 2 tanks..
"bro my dropship is awesome you can be the gunner" = the enemy team of 4 total just so happens to have 2 proto forge gunners to go with their 2 proto tankers.
"man you'll just get used to the internal server errors..." = the next game we play actually was 16 vs 16 but the new player gets DC'ed at the first of the map
"relax guy, it was just another microfreeze" = dust vet explaining dust to the new player
"yea i guess i'll go ahead and just buy black ops 2 so i can play with you and the rest of my friends from RL" = dust vet gives up on promoting dust |

I understand your concerns, however, you can overcome this but it will take patience and practice. My first two weeks of Dust were hell, but I stuck it out, worked hard at my skills and joined a corp. In fact I started a month after Open Beta began, which meant I was way behind a lot of the other players. However, that didn't stop me, in fact I've now caught up and in some cases surpassed the "older' players in skill points. Further, it's the skill of the players not the stats/items that makes a merc successful, but as I mentioned above it takes practice (remember Dust is not like COD or Battlefield, you need to evolve you game-style and it's possible as I've met quite a few COD players who love Dust).
Lastly, the best thing you can do for yourself is join a Corporation and there are a ton out there who are new player friendly. Being part of a corporation is akin to being part of a family/group of friends and that is what makes this game so fascinating; remember it's also an MMO, as such, the community is very similar to the one's you would find in the RPG realm (yes there are Trolls out there, but for the most part it's all part of the vibrant community that is Dust).
If you can, give Dust another chance. The shell of this game might not seem very edible, but the gooey center is amazingly tasty.
Good luck,
Osiris. |

Dust 514 is a great game I can only see it get better from here on out. I just don't get it why others don't see the same, maybe because it's hard for new players to join? I don't know but if you can get pass that it's a good game very different from other fps. I use to play Cod now Dust 514 is all I can play. THANK YOU CCP!!! |

You will have to rough it out dude and be patient. Join a corp that is will to train you. A lot of corps have training corps juts for this. You just need about 6 million SP dedicated in a single tree and you will do just great.
The trick is no play alone.
I started playing eve a month ago. I have 2.7 million SP on my dude. There are people with 130 million sp or more in Eve. I got my first kill at 1.3 million SP. Its all about focusing on one thing and getting really god at it! |

FFS people need to get over these ridiculous stereotypes and start living in the present day. Or maybe look to the future.
Reading that article is akin to reading some eugenics screed from early in the last century or delving into the science of phrenology.
Sure, there are some generalizations you can make about platforms. But when you start off by claiming console players all just want instant gratification your basically just making up an imaginary controversy in order to pump out more useless internet filler. |

I think this review fails to appreciate the substantially longer tails previous console generations enjoy today (particularly in a still somewhat depressed enconomy with limited disposable income among their target demographic). If I'm not mistaken, many of the large tentpole sports franchises continued to sell better on the previous platform (ps2 vs. ps3, xbox vs. xbox 360, etc.) in the year following the new consoles release. Regarding the idea of instant gratification vis-a-vis console gamers, I think it's an over generalization and one the industry needs to overcome if they want to position consoles as the living room entertainment hub (which it seems they do). Finally, it is possible to be fairly effective, even with limited SP (I've only be playing for a couple of weeks and managed to do ok). You're not going to be some angel of death standing astride a mountain of corpses, but you can make a contribution as a support class, providing covering fire, preassures the flanks of enemy positions, etc. |

The article did not say anything about Dust being "doomed", and I would agree that COD is a "good game"... assuming you are judging it by the criteria that the people who play it would use.
If you actually read the article, it's pretty neutral and even includes an interview with CCP that defends their position and explains why they are taking the development path they are on.
Try judging articles on their content rather than their source. |

Gentlemen, this is IGN...are you seriously weighting their opinion as something to be taken seriously? They are the kind of stereotype in gaming we are trying to defy. I for one could care less what IGN or just about any other large gaming network hypes positively or negatively about Dust 514, let alone anything else. In fact, I can't think of the last time IGN gave any game a good, solid or even moderately informed review of a product or industry, even if they liked it.
Also, just for fun, keep in mind this was released several hours before the keynote today. It's entirely intentional and manipulative. This is what Eve itself is all about and I imagine they would make a terrific PR division of any Major Alliance ^^ |

When anyone compliments you it's natural to say "thanks", but IGN has been the skeptical (and often openly downcast) observer of Dust 514 since the beginning. Even to the point of doing full interviews with positive questions only to turn around and say "well that sounds like a failure" once the CCP dev leaves. |

No you haven't, with the cap in place it is impossible to do this unless the "older" player stopped playing altogether.Osiris Ausare wrote: Further, it's the skill of the players not the stats/items that makes a merc successful, but as I mentioned above it takes practice (remember Dust is not like COD or Battlefield, you need to evolve you game-style and it's possible as I've met quite a few COD players who love Dust). This is a foolish statement in this game. Player skill matters so minutely in this game it is ridiculous. The guy in the militia enforcer fit with every relevant skill maxed out is going to beat the new guy in the same fit in 98% of their confrontations, +/- 2%. Anyone who says otherwise is an apologist and wrong. It's why eSports will not work, it's why clans of year old players will destroy new clans. It's why so many people are able to wreck ambush matches in proto gear. Because actual "player skill" is so heavily trumped by skill points and gear.

Good luck,
Osiris. This we will see on the 6th. Personally I don't even care about the social or political aspects of the game at this time. I just want them to fix it so that there is full menu functionality. Customizable controls. Hit detection that doesn't give a female scout a near invincibility. Consistency in the actual program...
Lot's needs changed, and they better get on it because if they don't this game will die extremely fast. Like GR:FS fast.

Come now Schalac, we know their's a gap, but where else in competitive FPS can we point and say there really isn't? That said, the gap is not rather more substantial than the typical one, but rather a gap with little to no consequences...which is both where you and I should be more interested in and where CCP is currently also focused.
I'm absolutely fine taggin Proto's with militia gear (and most of the skilled players usually do), but the thing that is in dire need of adding is reward and proper consequence. If I drop a Prototype suit, I should salvage prototype materials or equipment...further, prototype equipment should be something that is first on the secondary market for crafting and in as such needs to be worked for rather than just just bought up. When it's gone it's gone.
If either one of these is present the cost of losing 4 or 5 of these will either be highly profitable to other players who lost but killed them or take a large consequence for something as unlucrativce as Pub-matches....which is the 3rd option: create more lucrative content. If all the 0.0 players in Eve played in High-Sec (and they would in some eras of the game) it would appear to be much the same. Pub-matches need to be the lowest form of ISK and SP gains.
As for the rest of the complaints, I've been hearing this for almost a year for every build....I think we're going to be fine my friend, but if D3lta is proving less than fun we'd be happy to have you at D- |
