The problem is we don't have enough positive reviews/commentaries out there to combat this. We are not on Twitch.tv, nor are we a viable game on the major video game websites. In fact, most people will only see the negatives of Dust and as such won't even touch the game, which is horrible as the future of this game is dependent on an increase in players. The only thing we can hope for is to have a strong word of mouth, pulling in others through indoctrination.
How many MMOs have we seen fail, how many FPS have failed? Something needs to be done otherwise this game will be the next one to fall (I really hope it doesn't as this is one of my all time favorite games, one which I have spent a lot of time on and hope to continue this in the coming years). Further, how long can CCP afford to produce/update a game that is losing money as well as players? I think a perfect example of a failed FPS and partial MMO is Tribes Ascend. When it first came out the game was very popular, I remember seeing a show on Twitch.tv hailing it as the next great Esports game. However, almost a year later the game is close to being dead (yes they still have tournaments in Europe, however, the last time I logged in there was only half a dozen games being played).
I really believe we as a community need to come together and promote Dust, to show the rest of the world why this a great game. Yes, we have had an increase in activity thanks to Kain Spero and the tournaments he has put on, however, that is not enough. We need to push CCP to see that they are not doing enough, to realize that the future of their game is dependent on the interest of the public (will we ever get an Arena/Spectator mode?)
That is all,

Now that i find out that once beta is over stats wont be reset I feel like I have been left in the Dust... I was not impressed when i 1st played a few months ago so i decided since I bought the pack to get into the beta and once the game was released I would still have my items and everything would be perfect. But now that I find by waiting for the official release I have fallen behind, I see no reason to jump in and play with people who have way more skills than I. I do not want to play a game where i have to spend day/weeks trying to catch up to people because I chose start at a official release time.
Sorry to say, even if Dust gets great reviews at release I cannot see myself wanting to jump into a game where I am way out leveled/Skilled or what ever you would call it.
I understand your concerns, however, you can overcome this but it will take patience and practice. My first two weeks of Dust were hell, but I stuck it out, worked hard at my skills and joined a corp. In fact I started a month after Open Beta began, which meant I was way behind a lot of the other players. However, that didn't stop me, in fact I've now caught up and in some cases surpassed the "older' players in skill points. Further, it's the skill of the players not the stats/items that makes a merc successful, but as I mentioned above it takes practice (remember Dust is not like COD or Battlefield, you need to evolve you game-style and it's possible as I've met quite a few COD players who love Dust).
Lastly, the best thing you can do for yourself is join a Corporation and there are a ton out there who are new player friendly. Being part of a corporation is akin to being part of a family/group of friends and that is what makes this game so fascinating; remember it's also an MMO, as such, the community is very similar to the one's you would find in the RPG realm (yes there are Trolls out there, but for the most part it's all part of the vibrant community that is Dust).
If you can, give Dust another chance. The shell of this game might not seem very edible, but the gooey center is amazingly tasty.
Good luck,

You will have to rough it out dude and be patient. Join a corp that is will to train you. A lot of corps have training corps juts for this. You just need about 6 million SP dedicated in a single tree and you will do just great. The trick is not to play alone. I started playing eve a month ago. I have 2.7 million SP on my dude. There are people with 130 million sp or more in Eve. I got my first kill at 1.3 million SP. Its all about focusing on one thing and getting really god at it!
Greatly said my EoN bro! |
