Hello CCP,
I own a Panasonic P65ST50 (65 inch plasma 2012 model) that I play on and she's a beaut! The picture quality on the Panasonic plasmas is the connoisseurs choice in a world owerflown with cheap LED LCDs with poor black levels and overblown colors; my model was selected as the best HDTV last year by the wire cutter (http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-big-tv-is-the-panasonic-st50/). Now this is not a rant about LCDs and how awesome my TV is (there are more expensive and better models out there like the VT50 and this years new models, ST60, VT60 and ZT60) but a platform on which to build up my arguments. I'm sure you're aware of the main drawback of plasma technology: image retention (or screen burn-in as some people know it).
Plasma burn-in is something of the past though, if you use pixel orbiter and set the contrast to logical levels you can't permanently damage the display; it would take days of static images on max contrast to even come close. There is however image retention which can stick around for minutes, hours, and even days! While playing Dust 514 for many hours I've noticed that the HUD can leave image retention of the bottom left and right information panels (HP & ammo) plus some slight traces of the map information at the top left.
My solution so far has been to run slides after playing to get it off, this can however take hours only to get IR back the next day after playing. My question to you is if you can please add a setting to the transparency of the HUD? This would greatly diminish IR of the static parts on the screen. There are many people out there with these awesome displays and you can easily help us by adding this functionality. There is already transparency in the HUD and props for that, but we need more!
Thank you |

Same issue, huge pain in the ass. The ammo/health circles retained so bad I had to bring my monitor through to play Dust a week ago, and they're still visible on-screen.
You can temporarily get around it by changing the screen size, but it just burns the bright GUI into a different part of the screen and also further ruins the already dodgy image quality, so it's not much of a fix. Throw us a bone CCP some people like black levels. |

Wow, that's really strange Citpaan Hacos!
Computer monitors are much better suited for these kinds of games, but since Dust 514 is a console game CCP really needs to put extra consideration into the static elements of the HUD. Transparency is the easy fix, but there are also other possibilities like displaying more info on the weapons themselves (ammo) and health status only when needed (display nothing when at full health). |

Same issue hear with image retention. Posted about a transparency level for the HUD awhile back hopefully we can get some attention to this.
As well mine is a Panasonic plasma, it will fade but you need 3 days of other programming playing.
Let's keep this one up on the to do list, PLEASE CCP |

Thanks for bringing this up, I have a panny plasma as well. It's come up in other games as well. It's always good to have some settings to mitigate the burn-effect.. |

What do you usually use if I may ask?
I use the pixel flipper for a few hours, then run some file I found on the internet that has different colour swirls then a checkboard fade in and out, seems to do the trick but after a 6 hour session I need to run it for a few days. Real PIA if I wanna watch a hockey game. I will notice smudging on the ice where the ammo and health are found. |

There is a built in B&W scrolling bar on my Panasonic P65ST50, you can find it under Menu - Picture - Advanced Settings. That's all you need to get rid of IR, make sure you run it on full contrast. |

I have a usb stick with a video i found online of a scrolling black and white bar. It works great for IR. If CCP could add even a remove hud option (Sort of like hardcore option) where it removes all info on the screen apart from the map maybe that would be a great idea. |

I don't know about that, fading the HUD when not "active" would be better; once you start firing the ammo HUD should intensify, same with taking hits or getting repaired. I'm confident CCP can sit down and come up with some neat ideas. |

Looks like those of us that enjoy deep blacks and rich colors are still S.O.L.
Please add a hud transparency setting or at least make the hud go down when running or something to that nature. It looks awesome the way it is. but would be way more beneficial for those of us with plasma television sets if you would change it, not even as a whole, a setting to change it individually would be great. I can only spend two skirmish matches at a time as of right now. then i have to turn on anti-image retention software for an hour. Which is really a hinderance to such great gameplay.

Yes, it's gotten much worse with this build. I was getting data from the market screen, and I very quickly noticed the ISK/AUR numbers getting shadowed into other screens. Same with the chat squares and planet info. |

After several weeks i had to downgrade to a 24" LED due to burn-in on our panasonic plasma. After 3-4 weeks the hp and ammo circles as well as the tacnet radar had gone away.
Just be sure to Max your brightness and contrast before running the anti-image retention bar. It will help a lot.
Fact is, that bright, stationary hud will get your panasonic plasma sooner or later. |

I too Have a Plasma and would love to see this feature implemented. Long play sessions sometimes induce slight ghosting of the HUD, most notably the Shield and Armor indicator and Ammo indicator.
I am playing on a 2011 model Slim, HDMI output obviously.
Not to be rude but I fail to see how ps3 console model type would have anything to do with this issue. It's not a bug, it's a problem inherent to long duration standing images on a plasma display.
We're asking for the option to adjust HUD opacity, not a bug fix. I understand it's not something to expect overnight but it'd be nice to have the option eventually.

Using a first gen PS3 fat, bought it when it first came out 001 model. Ammo and health leaving bad ghosting, notice it when watching Hockey or solid blue, white screen. The health bars for the MCC are starting to work in too.
The plasma is a Panasonic 50u50. As well, the new build doesn't fill my screen vertically (perfect horizontally) I have about on inch or two on the top and bottom, like watching a widescreen movie. Other in my corp have noticed this as well on their tv's. |

The model of PS3 has nothing to do with a problem that is literally just a static, full brightness ring being displayed in the same place of the screen for hours at a time. |

i am using a 2012 slim model. got it on black friday 2012 brand new. I got my 50 inch panasonic plasma tv the same day, also brand new. I have it hooked up with hdmi connection. I notice it most on the shield/ armor circle. But also quite noticable now on the ammo circle, and slight image retention from the minimap circle. |

I'm using a launch fat PS3 with a 55in. Panny plasma VT-series as I recall.
It's mostly a brightness/contrast thing. In games that support it, you can either toggle the HUD off, or use a HUD that only lights up when you're get damaged (health pops up them) or what have you. Games that animate the HUD or have less HUD/background contrast have fewer issues too. Games with a fixed and bright HUD will leave burn-in, and sometimes have you using anti-retention features after or between sessions (or just cutting them short).
Ideally we could individually toggle transparency or appearance of individual elements of the HUD. Things like the weapon/swap screen are only up for a second, and don't really matter. The ammo, etc. displays are the ones that leave a mark. Being able to toggle feedback elements would also be nice (the amount the screen lights up when the Forge Gun is charged and holding or you're taking damage) would also be nice, but that's not plasma-specific. |

Thank you.
And to note, I have no complaints of what the game elements look like, the color and design you've guys have is gorgeous, and I'd hate to see it go for everyone because it's rough on some of our screens.
But a IR safe mode option, there for any of those at risk, is a good one to have. (And remember, it's not just the HUD, but anything fairly static, like the ISK/AUR/SP info, and even menu box lines. In the MQ, a delayed start automatic camera rotation when idle could be an easyish fix.)
I know you have a lot of things to work on, especially stuff inside matches, but the sooner this is in, the sooner I know I can rest easy about hardware that would be a bit onerous to have to replace. |

Please fix this. At least make a color change for the HUD available. Preferably a black one to counter the bright blue that is already there. I have a new plasma tv and after only an hour i notice a slight image retention from the bright blue HUD. |

I realize this is an accessibility/usability sort of issue, and that game mechanics ultimately come first. Thanks for looking into it. |
