In case your wondering, I am a thirteen year old gamer who found this game by accident on the ps store. I had heard about EVE online and an fps with EVE's political intrigue and complicated player driven economy sounded awesome.I decided to try it out, and at first was overhwelmed by all the options and choices. Eventually, I got the hang of it and became a formidable player who valued teamwork with people sometimes twice his age. Even so, I am frequently angered to see comments persecuting younger gamers and corps refusing to except people my age. To me, this is as bad as refusing access to a race or gender, and it must be put to rest |

I know what you mean. I've been in MMOs since I was 12. However, I've managed to act in a way when nobody seems to question my age. Also helps that I haven't gotten a mic until recently.
Even got into some guilds in the past that say they only accept people over 20 because they don't want immature players. |

The hyperbolic statement comparing disdain for immature children with racism and other such prejudices... really?
In general, children are ignorant because they have not lived long enough to know what they do not know. This is especially so if they grew up in a good home and thus don't know how much the world can suck. Patience with required with children, but due to their ignorance can act like they have all the answers, which can be irritating for grown ups. Fortunately, this tends to be corrected with getting older.
Racism on the other hand, makes value judgements on individuals on a group identity based on superficial, surface attributes. It's a crude form of collectivism which is used to give one self esteem based on the merits of people who vaguely resemble them while condemning others for not vaguely resembling them.
You may be mature for your age, but you're still a kid. |

I may be a kid, but I'm a kid that wants to play a deep, meaningful game based on player choice and political interactions. Unfortunately, you and your "kind" would like to see people of my age barred from such an experience, regardless or my skill or personality. I find this very much alike to the wrongdoings imposed upon people of different races or religions, and must be done away with as such.
In fact, many in society believe that adult that play video games are immature, and that they are disregarding other responsibilities. Just think about that when replying |

I agree (21 here) It's unfair that decent players in your age group are lumped in with the stereotypes. Alright some kids are annoying but frankly the same can be said of ALL ages. Getting older may mak you more mature, but you also become more arrogant since you start seeing yourself as an aged guru or something. I agree some kids maybe ignorant to what they do and don't know about, but older people are ignorant to the possibilty of younger people actually being mature. Also you only have so many years where eing immature is "allowed" or accepted in mainstream society so we shouldn't punish kids for enjoying their moment while they can, forcing them to "grow up" by disallowing them from things will only damage them really since they may become TOO mature and they'll treat people younger than them like older people treated them.
Besides, while playing this game fact is we all been bested one time or another by kids lol, as long as they can work with the team effectivley what does their age matter? |

I've been into online gaming since I was 10 so I can safely say I know how you feel. Maturity is overrated though, believe me. Stupidity and ignorance is what gets under people's skin, not how mature someone is. I know immature people that you'd love and mature people that you'd hate. |

The game is rated T for teen. I am also in agreement that this type of game can actually teach kids some core fundamentals of teamwork and comraderie, but there are other things such as acceptance that empathy that are commonly lacked. For example, disagreeing with corps that make it policy to NOT accept players of certain age. It is their corp and they are free to make the rules as they see fit, and this is actually a sound rule. There is a reason why kids don't get gun licenses until a certain age, they can't drink, they can't smoke, they can't vote, and they aren't allowed to live on their own. Lack of some qualities such as acceptance and empathy as well as hormone distribution which causes some emotional inbalances make it difficult to make responsible decisions on their own. Although, there are adults that show a lower level of maturity that some kids, the difference is these adults are purposely doing it, as the kids are trying not to.
An example is the thread, although mature in its content its purpose is juvenile because it lacks acceptance and empathy. This statement is not offensive nor is it meant to be, but if it is construed as offensive this is also juvenile because of the lack of acceptance and empathy. An example of true maturity would sound like, "adults are right, kids can't handle responsibility, and struggling to attain maturity is futile."
My father once said "You must be young and stupid, before you can be old and wise." Nobody is beyond the grasp of "young and stupid" |
