With the new build coming soon, and the new weapons, and modules included, (haven't heard any pro heavy news btw) are the heavies the weakest dropsuit? I mean In all reality It's supposed to be the strongest, and most durable, am I right?
Lets look at the pros and cons shall we.
These are the understandable weaknesses of the heavy. You get what you get here.
(-) slow movement speed
(-) bigger hit box
(-) large profile
(-) slow turn speed
(-) no equipment
Cons: these are the ones I can think of as of right now. I could probably find more if I search other threads, but I'm lazy
- vk1 costs more than a tank...
- rumor being that all dropsuits can use heavy weapons as seen in the gathering forces trailer (not confirmed, but would make being a heavy completely useless. Having exclusive weapons is what sets the heavy apart from the other dropsuits.
- a good proto assualt vs a good heavy. Proto assualt wins 80% of the time. And that's a 1v1. We all know people like to steal kills.
- with the recent nerf to hmg range heavys have to be closer to the target than ever to do serious damage. just to let you guys know mini guns in today's world can shoot up to 1000 meters accurately. Hmgs in this game are squirt guns compared to real mini guns in today's world, doesn't make sense but ok.
Future build cons: we all know with the new modules coming that It's going to be even harder to not only get kills as a heavy, but also a lot of our k/d ratios are going to drop. Thanks to invisible shotgun scouts.
- scanners are going to be able to track heavies the easiest
- if a heavy closes in on a player, or catches one of guard, all the player has to do is drop a shield generator, and wait for the heavy to approach. As soon as the heavy enters the (bubble shield) the player throws a grenade into the bubble hurting the heavy significantly. As soon as this happens the player can finish him off in a brawl. All heavies aren't stupid so this may not be the case, but this gives the player with the shield generator a get out of jail free card. Just another obstacle the heavy has to overcome to get a kill.
- cloaking, or invisibility will be used by scouts the most. This promotes camping, and waiting by a corner for a heavy to pass by wasting him in the process is another thing that effects the heavy a lot to an extent.
Pros
+ a lot of hp (not near enough in my opinion)
+ Exclusive weapons
+ .........and that's It (at least to my knowledge)
Now some of you guys are probably thinking "hahaha, heavies are getting the Jenny Craig treatment *****! Lololololol" this maybe funny to most but for the ones that actually use heavies are really hurt by what it's become. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't laugh about your specific dropsuit that you spent most of your skill points into get gimped, and royally f*****.

All I'm going to say is that as a heavy, if they refund any or all of our SP at some point, I'm taking every point I can out of heavies and putting them into scouts. If you're any good, scouts will just net you far more kills, less deaths, and more usefulness to your team overall than a heavy ever can. Heavies are extremely undewhelming outside of early game and unskilled players. |

The rumor of all suits carrying heavy weapons isn't going to come to anything most likely. There is also speculation that the video features the DEV's special Assault Suit. Seeing as how the suit appears to have 3 weapon slots on the fitting screen, I'm inclined to believe that is the case and Heavy Weapons will remain class restricted.
Although that does nothing really for heavies. I switched to mainly running assault couple builds back and when I do try to run an HMG now I like it less and less. It sucks since that was what I ran when first started playing I have a lot of love for the old fat suit. I still try to break out the HMG every now and then but I find myself getting more and more frustrated every time. |

If a proto-assault is beating a good heavy 80% of the time, shouldn't you be looking at the proto-assault? And even still that's kind of bias. Since most proto-assaults have ARs, you're flat-out outside of the HMG optimal range, and without support, the Forge Gun is a sitting duck, so of course you're going to beat them 80% of the time.
Honestly, the high-end heavies could use a slight buff, same goes for the HMG, but apart from that, they don't need anything else. If you're facing people alone 1-1 as a Heavy you should get owned, because you're not suppose to be alone. |

I've thought this during most recent CBs as the preferred loadout appear to be Shotgun Scout where the only Heavy seen is shooting Forge Gun from a great distance. I see Scout being even more preferred once cloaking modules become available. Now we see why Heavies shouldn't of been nerfed like they had been. |

Your HP gives you the ability to both DPS and TANK at the same time. Something no other class can do.
Now lets talk about these
Ok the HMG... this weapon has the highest RoF and Clip size in the game. Furthermore, Its the only weapon in game that becomes more accurate overtime.
Lastly Instant Hit+ High RoF makes a unbelievable strong gun. |

When I 1v1ed you I killed you with about 40 armor left. Although your shields were about 80%. Had they been 100% I would have been killed myself while you walk away with probably 150 armor left give or take. The hmg is strong no doubt, but compared to the assualt rifle it's **** at close range. It's not an area denial weapon like it should be.

Shhhh... a heavy in its natural habitat. just observe.
A tactical role to play you say? No! Its a kill machine. It 1v1s noobz all dayyyyy.
trolls aside.
Yes the heavy is a defencive platform used to anchor an area and deny easy enemy access to it. Just because CCP has been testing the nuts and bolts of this game doesn't mean anyone should expect it to be all about getting 'kills' Slayers are way way way too over rated atm.

if they lose the exclusives here heavy suits are almost pointless. here is a comparison of teh best each has to offer
Heavy VK1 =
246,000 isk 3 high slots 2 low Slots No Inf equip 270 base CPU
Assault VK1 = 91,200 isk 4 high slots 3 low 2 inf equip 330 base cpu
Basically heavy suits cost 3 times as much , for less slots, cpu and inability to resupply yourself and have a heafty speed reduction.
use the assault, throw on some shields a couple of armour plates and your way better off.
although personally I wouldn`t bother the HMG has a base dmg of 16 and terrible range...your assault rifle can shoot the balls off a fly at 80 yards and does tons more dmg

Wait, if an assault is better at killing stuff than a heavy, then What pre tell is a heavy supposed to do with a group? No equipment, and you've said it's not a credible threat. There is nothing a heavy can do with a group that an assault can't do better. So essentially, heavies should run around, being fat and slow, drawing attention to how easy they are to kill? What is the heavy's job? Spray popcorn at the enemy while your squadmates reload?

Also, while not ideal for the job, HMGs get less of a negative modifier against vehicle armour than smaller weapons. They're not particularly good against tanks, but they can tear chunks out of LAVs.
Most importantly, though, in enclosed spaces (like you have near at least one objective on almost every Skirmish map), HMGs are an important area denial weapon. You have a Heavy and a Logi (or 2) in good positions, and very few enemies will be able to press an effective attack.
The high tier suits are underwhelming, and they're massively overpriced, but Heavies have their place on the battlefield. |

Choke points. If they're all aiming at the Heavy, they aren't aiming at your squad. The whole point of the Heavy class is to defend and breach as a vanguard, and they do this better than assaults. If you're trying to solo 20-0 with a Heavy, you're not doing your job. |

I totally agree with this. I also spent my SP in the heavy, I wanted to play something different, never looked on the forum at the time for all the "heavy are OP" threads to decide. I am sticking with it, but I got to say I am definitely not sure about its benefits in a match now, especially a skirmish where you can't run.
You're not supposed to be alone, but it's true with every class tbh, so this isn't something only a heavy should follow as a rule. Problem is, when you squad with a group, be sure they are going to go for a push and your fat ass will be left behing.
If the heavy make a misjudgement of the situation, don't think about running away, just die.
With the HMG, you shoot at someone at mid range and you are going to wait until the aim "get better" to actually hit the guy properly, that guys will already be behind cover. Now everyone know where you will be for the next few seconds and you rely on your squad for the rest...Oh damn, everyone is at the other building already. Kitten
I play a militia heavy right now, make me test some heavy tactics, care less and learn without spending 200,000isk+ a game.
Being a heavy is for me a love/hate relationship. I am just kittening stuck with it.

you KNOW that's never going to happen.
CCP is a business.
how does a business USUALLY make money? by appealing to the lowest common denominator (in this case the brats that were spoiled on COD and never knew the feeling of searching for that health pack as 1 more bullet and you're dead) |

I could buy the "heavies are supposed to guard checkpoints" argument... if only almost every single point worth defending wasn't almost completely exposed. The ones were they aren't exposed tend to be CQC areas, they still have have to deal with ninja shotgunners, but that's fairly balanced in my opinion. So really a lot of this just has to do with poor map design, there's just to many open areas and not enough CQC areas.
Yeah, you could leave two Logis with the heavy to make him functionally immortal, but what kind of defense could they do that 3 assaults couldn't, or 2 assaults and 1 Logi couldn't? And keep in mind that every Logi babysitting a heavy is 1 that isn't out there rezzing people. |
