Should have posted one of str8dumpin's dom vids from early MAG. Or a good clan battle, my fav was V-C vs R*S, I never uploaded mine, but texaslineman did. You can hear me being a dictator on Team Broadcast all game 8) Clan battles in this game are no where near as fun or intense as MAG battles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lby1GO3s7jQ
Raptor's vids give a bad impression on MAG, knifers did terrible against good players in clan battles. Raptor went terribly negative against 3C when they played.
Also ringing was #1 in MAG, my uber 1337 ringing skillz were the best. My fav ringing match was with KEQ, if they would have been decent at all we would have won :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFEfvLfB4OE |

What drew me to DUST was that sense of the grand-scale. "One Universe, One War." Wait, I think. I'm part of this one war in this whole universe? Holy kitten. That's kittening awesome. Kitten me.
The thing is, the gameplay is engaging enough to become completely absorbed as to not realise what you're doing on the planet in the first place.
Many FPS' do this better than DUST. MAG, CoD, BF. They make the gameplay so intense, so frantic and urgent, that players don't care about what impact their actions have in the bigger picture. They simply want to continue playing.
This is how it should be, for those games. Why? Because there is no bigger picture. It is an endless cycle of stabbing, shooting, capturing, stealing, retrieving, protecting, hiding, saving, jumping, riding, calling in, and so on.
What DUST does, not so well just yet, but does nonetheless, is make you forget the bigger picture exists whilst you're on the ground, fighting to stay alive, because a death is loss equipment, and loss of equpment means loss of ISK, and ISK is everything in a mercenary's life.
Or is it?
What our actions amount to in one game, one skirmish, means more than the actions in one hundred MAG games because we do changes what our capsuleers have to do, changes what the four great factions have to fight for, have to defend.
You can change the course of the bigger battle; history is defined by your actions. History, gentlemen! Have you seen timelines in any other shooter? Is there such magnificence in any other games? There is a reason we're here. There is an explanation for our immortality. There is justification for the utter annihilation of the opposition!
Sure, you might say it's not happening now, that instant battles mean nothing. But what are we, if not imaginative? I tell myself that dropship that I lost was the price I had to pay to save billions of innocent lives, and suddenly I become the hero of the story.
I don't need CCP to define my roles. I don't need them to recite my story. I will forge my own path and I will do it because it's bloody fun to play DUST, even more so when I see myself as the defender of the defenceless, a hero in my own head.
No, I'm not insane. Try it one day. Gameplay doesn't look good, it should feel good. And this is how I make it feel good to me. |

While MAG wasnt a perfect game, the OP does have some points. And if you think the game was crap, then why did CCP pay homage to it with the AUR BPO suits (Valor, Raven and Sever)?
Here are a few things that MAG had that would transition well to DUST - Tiered objectives - This felt like you had to push through the front lines to take something. Would play very well into District Control
- Map Design - MAG had very good maps that allowed for differences in elevation as well as choke points for strategy. Also, the flora/fauna design allowed for a good immersion and sense of cover moving between objectives.
- Sensors vs. 'Cloak' - I thought the balance between sensors and sensor cloaking we very well thought out and gave a very good feel for gameplay
- Weapon Customization - This was my favorite FPS for weapon customization. It did it just enough without going overboard like the COD games did.
- Movement - This by far was my favorite. The movement in MAG was fluid and gave a good sense of trade off between armor and speed. This is what I would like implemented in DUST the most.
The technical aspects such as hitboxes and terrain I will leave out since that might is an obvious room for improvement and not exactly near complete. |

Mag looks like something i don't really miss, 2 bullets anywhere on the body and the opponent is dead, welp... almost like COD on hardcore, all i see is allot of knifing, spraying & pre-firing vs nublets, the aiming in that game seems like its not even needed.
There is 0 teamwork possibilities involved, nor if you get shot in the back do you have a chance to react, that movie is just a rag tag adding on all his killstreaks he ever got it seems minus all his own deaths.
Mag already excists, if you like it that much more, go back to it, Dust does not need to become like every FPS has become. |

Play MAG and see if aiming doesn't matter. 0 teamwork? Unable to react? You have no idea what you're talking about. None!
People are lookimg at the knifing but ignorkng the smg highlights, the shotgun hjghlights, the sniper, the pistol, lmg highligjts...all are sick |

I am sorry, but i don't see any teamwork in that movie at all, just some solo guy wasting nublets with 1 to 2 shots anywhere on the body or 1 knife slice.
Not being able to burn trough an opponent in 0.5s flat takes skill, grazing someone with a bullet or 2 does not, it just takes reaction speed, some people are gifted with a naturaly fast reaction speed, some are not, most people start failing badly if they have to keep their aim steady for longer then a second when the target is moving.
Ive played COD blackops on hardcore and some maps you could practically kill the entire team if you timed it in your head as to where those s*ckers would come from and kill half of em trough a wall, some with a pre-cooked nade and any leftovers with 1 bullet to the torso without croshairs in hardcore.
It got me Steam Vac banned for playing that way, i can run 27/0 with assault B suit and a Breach Shotgun in Dust, 1 shot kills, 2 shot kills against any heavy with no support at all, its frantic, your knee deep in red dots and each and everyone wants a piece of you, 2 rounds in the gun, Miss twice and its game over for you.
I suggest, get a Breach Shotgun, an assault B suit, 3 complex shields, 1 repper and shield recharges in the lows.
Let it rip....though you will need good reaction speed & aim for this, not some bs automatic that kills like inMag.

Watch some of the vids I posted, the one you watched is nothing like MAG was. Raptor was a noob farming, did terrible against good players. Also the bullet damage isn't very high, the vid makes it look awful, but it is nothing like CoD. Very easy to turn on someone shooting you in the back or win 1v1s even if you are getting shot first. This was actually an amazing game, vid just doesn't show it. |
