Does anyone know when the Dust 514 Neocom App is coming out for the PS Vita? I have posted on the Playstation forums as well, but does anyone know? |

Id refrain from asking till the Crest API system is completed. Chances are that system is needed in order to allow the Vita to change things on the server side, which is the whole point of the Crest system. |

When I first heard of Vita app I had wild dream of it strapped to my arm like the in-game hack animation; using it to call in orbitals and apply team orders.
But it looks like a fitting tool. Good, but my excitement level dropped.
Then it became another SOON (TM) and is probably on the backest backburner in the backburniverse.
Right now I'd prefer some content. |

Would it ever be possible to get Dust battles running on a Vita, but with less graphical whizz bangs?
As far as I crudely understand, the Vita is less powerful in the GPU and CPU department but better off in the RAM department when compared to the PS3, so would that mean if a VIta version did exist it wouldn't be a bottleneck on future development? |

Even if it could not partake in a battle on the ground, i still see GREAT ability for the vita to be a place where someone can lead the battle from the MCC with it. Touchscreens for maps, still has buttons, Mic, (or you could buetooth a mic). Definitely has enough power to display the maps in real time and do everything necessary to lead the battle. |

Good to hear this is still on the cards, thanks. Access to the Neocom for market access, fitting, corp, etc is going to be valuable. The forums can be accessed easily enough via the Vita browser, as long as they can function concurrently I don't see a great need for forum access within the app, but it would be good to have it all in one place.
Other options might be better known to CCP - having a map option linked to your battle might be really good for squad/command orders for instance.
The sooner the better though - being able to tinker with fittings while away from the PS3 is going to be a boon.
As for Dust play on Vita, it's conceivable that when it moves to PS4 you could play it on Vita via Remote Play, but that kind of thing is a ways off and multi-player online might not be feasible anyway. |

I live in the US and bought the 3g version. AT&T's service is not very good so my suggested action is to get a phone with a hotspot with 4G. With that said I love my VITA and I am at work with it on the forums all the time. At first I couldn't log in to the forums but they fixed it and it works great.
I would love for the VITA to do more than just the NEOCOM. Maybe they will add some mini games that will allow us to up grade a module. Something like T2 manufacturing in EVE, buy 10 standard ARs add some type of item like a data core. Then play some type it of mini-the game would only increase your chance of success by a small amount-and get back a few advanced ARs. The game would be optional and a fail in the mini would cause the mercs to loose all of the items they tried to upgrade but success would add 10% to whatever modifier the data core offered. The PSN is full of mini games to farm ideas from.
For example if a merc where to buy 10 standard armor reps and put them into advanced research production with a 10% chance to make 2 advanced reps. If they were to play the tetris type game they could increase the odds to 15 or 20% if they meet the requirements of the game if not they would loose all the items were trying to upgrade. |

not going to happen.. all you'll be able to do is check mail, restock fittings, buy off the market, and maybe maybe use as a mini map while playing.
to those asking why not android/iphone...there will be apps after crest comes out that will allow some of these features to happen as well.
from what i understand we won't see any of these types of thing Vita wise or App wise until crest is done.

As someone that owns a lot of devices, I can honestly say that the Vita is at the bottom of my list. It has essentially zero market share. I can't really imagine a scenario in which someone would buy one.
CCP, please consider ports to other platforms (the non-Sony platforms that the vast majority of your potential player-base actually owns). You know who we mean.
Also, not to beat a dead horse, but...
CCP, please consider developing for mobile devices for CCP's web-based platforms. For every one person that has a PS3 on their desk next to a PC, there are a hundred people playing in the living room with a smartphone in their pocket or a tablet in their lap (or both). Developing web platforms for PC only looks naive and lazy in 2013.
I have concerns that CCP doesn't have any idea who its market is. I have concerns that DUST will die if these silly distractions continue. |

I think the app would be awesome, but currently I do not have a ps vita. However I do have an iPad so maybe an apple/android app would be appropriate. Also, in the app you could customize drop suit fittings, vehicle fittings and perhaps even visit the market. I also like the idea of being able to call down orbital strikes using this app. Perhaps a live battle map feature would be incorporated into this. Anyways love the game, keep up the good work. |

Everytime I see this thread (or one like it) I think I'd LOVE to be able to quickly review my skills; fittings and mail right now (while working for example) so when I do get my brief window to actually play I can jump straight in to a game instead of faffing about for 15 minutes first.
So, I would love a VITA app, but if not why isn't there at least a Web site / portal online where I can do these things?! I know developing APIs and GUIs isn't easy, but it's not exactly rocket science, given the amount of time that has passed since we saw the Vita app demo! |

I'm pretty firmly in the camp of the Dust NEOCOM on smartphones (iPhone and android) released in conjunction with the VITA version.
Bottom line: I reckon 95% of the current and future players have smartphones and would shell out $5 for a quality app. Having a NEOCOM for the VITA isn't going to drive me to get a $250 VITA. Not when I can do everything the VITA can do (and better) from my existing handheld devices. |

I am signed in to the PSN almost all the time with my VITA while I play DUST. I play games, watch youtube and look at the forums while waiting to shoot mercs but I don't post using the VITA because the browser sucks bad. Get PSplus and the VITA is much better, don't mess the browser. The panoramic camera is cool. Almost all movies are better on the VITA because of the screen. My daughter and I kill the battery about twice a day and if you have some cash go get a decent memory card and a car charger. The charger will charge anything with a USB if you modify the USB plug to fit into the VITA charger. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Thing is, if enemies have a commander and your side doesn't you're pretty screwed. Also if your commander isn't good/giving a f*** that match your pretty screwed.

Maybe just add a command slot in squads. command slot is occupied by vita user, gains access to orders/orbital drops, and is tied to a specific character. Command slot gets less isk/SP per battle, but can deploy equipment/buffs for WP earned. Items come out of command user's pocket, but can be directly controlled through vita app.
Tie all of this to a skill tree.
Things like Resupply Depots(Restores armor/ammo, lasts for 10/15/20 seconds) or turret installations(How long have we complained about these being in terrible spots!?) allied to one side from the drop.
Maybe even make interaction between the two besides just ordering people around and dropping support. Add a designator item that can be used to deploy a strike from the commander for WP to take out hard targets like heavies, tanks, or a sniper.
If you hear the words "WORTH IT!" look about, something hilarious just happened.

No player should be able to call things in that other players can't.

I pointed out that they did cost isk for the deployer. and that they require squad WP to deploy. so no turrets at the start, and a lot of people have vitas(I do. at least, and according to near a minimum of 3 others are active within one kilometer and have reported in to near at least once)
it works like the orbital call ins from eve to dust, sqaud leader puts out the call, the command user puts the orbital down.

Let it do OBs just like moving to the OB screen. If you have to put down the controller to use the VITA then there is no problem. It is an tool to use while playing but it shouldn't offer any extra perks next to bring able to see the overhead map or drop an OB. No different than the advantage a person with a mic has or a keyboard that has hotkeys for menus that controllers don't have. It should reward the player a small bit but it shouldn't give a win button, the last I saw it could only do merc quarters stuff.

That would work too. I love fiddling with my stuff and some of my best ideas come when I'm nowhere near my ps3.

Aurum isn't either. That's why aurum frees no advantages over regular equipment.
Why should a vita app be given special abilities that not everyone has access too.
We have a deployable screen already when we call in vehicles and orbitals why do you we need a separate one on a handhold that I repeat no one has them. They're like wiiU's atm
The app is better for letting people make fittings, buy and sell stuff and send messages or chat.
this game is free to play. You shouldn't need to spend 200$ to access a special mode that gives you special abilities.
While we're at it make havs and dropships only operable from the vita.

What's wrong with squad leaders calling orbitals now? Why do we need a special mode that only vita users can use? Why should they be allowed to drop crus and supply depots where ever they want when the regular players can't. (which you suggested)

A dust merc steps into the MCC's control room. If he does a good job the team lets him stay, if he doesn't they can vote to remove him. A Dust Merc leading Dust Mercs who allow him/her to stay in command.

I never said "only" with a vita. Just for the commander slot, basically what CCP wanted to do with the commander suit. and you would never specifically require a vita, it would just be easier than navigating through menus while people try to kill you. And squad leads would still have full control in lieu of commander slot being filled, with a volunteer and vote system. It should be a measure of confidence from the squad.
I also never said anything about cru's or full supply depots( I suggested temporary ones that cost squad WP and isk from the commander's pocket to deploy)

As long as everyone has equal access to anything commander mode can offer.
So apart from menus there's no actual point to having it on the vita? Or having the mode exist in general.
Let's just fix the ingame deployable menu and axe the mode altogether.

Auris, why are you so against a commander mode? Some people enjoy playing differently. I for one prefer and do better at overwatch/coordinating a defense over simply rushing guys with a shotgun like so many other scouts.

The VITA app is more about mobile MQ stuff than anything else and I would say that any type of commander mode would only be for PC or coordinated FW teams. Pub matches don't need a commander mode, we should be able to call in structures but it should be for any squad whom has the skills, WPs and ISK to do it.
