Completely inappropriate and pathetic............yet completely unsurprising.
I would miss out on so many good multiplayer games if I stopped playing due to abusive language or threatening hatemail. I completely sympathize with your friends feelings on the matter, but no REAL gamer quits a game they love because of some douches ruining one game for them.
If your friend stopped playing Dust altogether over this incident, perhaps it's a sign that don't actually LIKE this game and were just looking for a good excuse to get out of it.
Either way, I too will be keeping an eye out for these tossers and will aim to make their game absolute hell. But in the meantime, tell your friend to come back if they really like the game and be prepared for more rude treatment, because this happens in EVERY single multiplayer game on the Planet. She just needs to remember that there are still plenty of other gamers out there with common decency. |

So people should stop complaining and just deal with it, but a**holes shouldn't have to stop being a**holes? Talk about a double standard. If people want to be d*cks, then I say let them be d*cks, but they should be prepared to deal with the consequences, that could be anything from a warning to a ban. |

As others have mentioned reporting abuse is the appropriate response. Being insulted is not something you earn your way out of. Harassment is not the baseline for how people should deal with other players.
Admittedly laws differ depending on the country but certainly in the UK words on the Internet have "Legal" weight as in you can be prosecuted for it as people on twitter learned. I assume it is probably true throughout the EU.
Yes we grow stronger through adversity but it does not mean we should accept it and part of that is through the support of others.
I am not sure about life time bans as I have no idea what they said but if it was genuinely awful and the evidence to prove it is there then so be it.
Until then the advice about locking your squad or muting them should help. Also TKO them by:
1. Get a LAV drive straight at them and just before it hits jump out and it should kill them 2. Drop a vehicle on their heads. 3. Nade Rage. Run upto them grab a nade and wait for the boom
I believe these will result in a TKO. |

King Kobrah wrote:Harassment and racism is necessary in society to produce strong minded, thick skinned adults. You should be thanking the aggressors for trying to make you a better person, not trying to give them a lifetime ban.
So If someone was to harras/assault/**** your mother/sister/girlfriend/wife IRL - instead of advising them to report it to the police you'd tell them to HTFU?
It basically boils down to the same thing..

Its a real shame the way some people react to and treat women in online gaming, a corpmate and I were in a squad last night when randomly a lady joined our squad and started talking, its so rare in these kinda games and it made me very nostalgic for my days in eve where women are also fairly uncommon but less afraid to speak on comms.

Trolling, team-killing, theft etc. are par for the course. People are idiots, especially online. You can make fun of these idiots mercilessly. Troll them, ram their tanks, call in Bolas to kill their dropships, run them over with LAV's, stand in front of them when they're sniping, follow them around and step in front of their barrel and steal every kill they might get, the list goes on. All that is well and good in New Eden.
Make fun of people for their actions. Start making fun of people because of who they are and it's no longer funny. Muting them isn't enough, they are bad for the community as a whole. When you make fun of their actions you are insulting their toon, their corp whatever. What these guys were doing was a personal attack and is completely unacceptable.
Guess what happened because of them? A new player, who might have been a valuable asset to some corp, has left the game and these two asshats remain. They need to either shut up with that bullshit or find a new game because they have no place here. |

I love the "men" who say that harassing women is perfectly fine, that we "deserve" it for playing a game we want to (and with nothing in the game rules that says we can't like some think there is), that tell us to just take it and don't do anything about it.
Yet...when they get anything negative said about them, they're the first to cry for something to be done.
There are ways to lessen these idiot's actions, but they never go away. Why? because there are other idiotic people that defend and encourage them.
I have yet to see (or even hear about) a guy harassed in-game by a woman because he is a guy...but I have seen plenty of women (and have been myself) harassed by "men" only because they are female. |

This right here is an ignorant comment from one of those immature children. Just because you feel one way about it doesn't mean that people take things differently. Why don't you STFU and carry on, instead of trolling the forums looking for a way to derail a legitimate issue. Yes, yes, we all know about muting people, but that doesn't change the fact that what these individuals did was wrong. Words might not hurt you, you might have a thick skin, that's great. Not everyone has a level of self confidence that the internet has given you. |

This is the one of the reasons I don't talk in this game. It is not worth it to speak and get all the flak for it. Even though it may diminish squad cohesion I am a fairly decent logi that works well with my team. |

I am all for people getting kicked from a game for using racial, sexual, or any other form remark that insults someone who can't help themselves for who or what they are. The whole sexual harassment thing has been ignored way too long in the gaming industry. I know quite a few women who play games that could wipe the floor with dudes in FPS. They have garnered respect from some, but on more than one occasion you get some douchebag who thinks its his job to say whatever he can to try and hurt them. All because he can't beat them in the game.... This also goes for the racial slurs that I see people put up as their character name. Honestly, it is getting to the point where I think CCP should not allow those names to even be typed in....revert it back to kitten.... |

It sounds like you and your female friend need to join KEQ (Kill-EM-QUICK) where we put female players in leadership positions in which they have to right to kick corp members who offend them by behaving in a boorish and offensive manner. We will rally around a member in need, hunt down offensive nimrods and make them regret ever opening their mouths.
