Are you dumb? Damage mods dont have any sort of stacking penalty what so ever and CCP has failed to fix this for almost 2 months.
I'm going to go ahead and guess you're defending damage mods since by the look of your EHP from your videos you use them pretty often.
Shield mods are perfectly fine considering one flux grenade can demolish not just you but your surrounding teams shields as well.
Come on man dont feed that kind of crap to these people they might believe you. |

It is a bit of a tossup between using damage mods or stacking shields, I fluctuate between the two and I still end matches the same as I always do.
On one hand if you damage mod stack on a type-B for example, you can drop people really fast. However somebody else with damage mods and/or militia AR for example, can drop you near instantly if they get the drop on you.
Then you have shield stacking, you can take a lot more damage from those with damage mods, and even more without, but your gun doesn't hit very hard. So going up against somebody else who is shield stacking, is very tedious.
Now here's a thought, say there are two players with the same weapon (lets say a Gek) standing still aiming at eachother, both are aiming at identical spots on the other player. One has 3 complex shield extenders, the other has 3 complex damage mods. Aside from those mods, they have identical skills. Now say they both start shooting at eachother at the same time with the same accuracy and hits... who wins?
Does the extra DPS from the damage mods offset the extra shields, or do the extra shields keep the one player alive long enough to take out the other guy who has very little protection?

also shield are completely passive, mods only work if you can aim, which we know you can't thats why you abuse tanks... |

Well lets give two scenarios. Both are getting 100% headshots on the other. Second scenario is both are getting 100% body shots on eachother.
Whats the DPS for headshots with a gek? I could do a bit of math to figure DPS vs the extra shields to know for sure. |

Well did some math based on gek 38 and stock type-B assault.
- 3 complex damage mods vs 3 complex shield extenders in a perfect and identical scenario = Death for shield tank in 0.97 seconds.
- 3 complex shield extenders vs 3 complex damage mods in a perfect and identical scenerio = Death for damage mod stacker in 0.81 seconds.
So in a perfect scenario where both players are aiming at eachother in the same spot and in pure perfection, damage mod stacker loses by 0.16 seconds (roughly 17% difference).
Now when the damage mod penalty comes into play, the shield tanker would win by leaps and bounds (1.09 seconds vs 0.81). Not to mention all that glorious shield protection!
Seems the best move right now, and in the future, is stacking shields rather than damage mods for the AR. Although damage mods do make a better choice if the person doesn't shoot back or land too many shots. Shield tanking means you have to hold on target longer, but you can take more damage from sloppy play or against somebody with superior aim.

You forgot the most important reason to shield tank. It makes snipers mosquitoes, and that to me is reason enough. |

No it shouldn't. The reason why damage mods should have a penalty is due to the fact that they compound the damage, by a percent. The shield extenders just add extra hp to your shields by a base amount. CCP has figured all this out with Eve, so why they haven't moved it over to dust is beyond me.... Once they get this on track, the people who have used this crutch are going to limp along until they learn to walk again.... |

Excellent points, unless of course, that the damage mods are working correctly, but they're just reported incorrectly in the fittings screen. I honestly doubt anyone can tell a few percent difference that would be the case if the stacking penalty were actually applied in battle, but not on the fitting screen.
We don't have any sort of combat log do we?
