assult rifles are boss, cuz u need skill to use em aswell, i'd say, its a good investment. if u wanna be a slow poking heavy machine gunner, fine, i'll try and out flank and poke you, while i stay in cover, and try to run behind and jack you while surrounded . its super fun to try, but u can allso die in fire.. u have to play the role, not just use weapons, and assult is gracefull. i do admit its the scariest weapon in the game tho, in the hands of madmen like seraphim 4 example |

Sorry but you fail at recognizing the difference between RL and game balance.
If you want R/L then in reality the HMG should have a chance to jam when its being used and clearing the jam should take a heavy 3 times the normal reload speed. After extensive use they should also have to clean the gun in the MQ since they would get dirty really fast and cause even more jams if you use it without cleaning properly. It could be a minigame for the heavies to have to clean their HMGs and put it back together right or it explodes the next time you try to shoot it.
So cut the RL example idiocy. This isnt RL. |

You were probably killed by someone who has already maxed out Light Sharpshooter and is now a few skill levels into Light Sharpshooter Proficiency.
See... If you skill into things, it makes them better. He put points into being able to shoot you at a long distance, you didnt.

If you look at the quote its obvious who said what. I quoted your post which you had already quoted someone else. I was responding to your post only but I think I made it pretty clear that I think comparing a game to RL is idiotic. If you didnt understand that in my post then I will make it clear. Game Balance > Real Life If you start talking about RL in relation to gaming you have already lost the arguement.......because noone cares about RL for gaming its about balance. If this game was RL its likely 1 strike from an orbiting ship would completely glass the entire map that we play on making any further fighting futile.
BTW when people quote they are usually quoting and speaking to the person specifically that made that post not necessarily to all the people who you might have quoted beforehand. |

Most of the rilfes can get ranges comparable to snipers with BETTER accuracy because of the maxed skills for less kick. Once they twaek laser rifles, ARs are going to be a joke at long range as Laser rifles are at close range. |

sniper rifle does full damage to 600m. AR does full to about 36m, 78m max range before plasma disappears.
both can be improved by sharpshooter kills, my ar now has max of about 106m, my sniper does full damage to 800m+.
Ar doesn't rival sniper rifle range, snipers are shooting from to close most of the time.
Real life, plasma weapons were looked into and not pursed due to short range before plasma dispersed to nothing. So, the ar range is about right from that angle too. They use them for the high damage. M-16 would out range a gek, but do nothing to our armour when it hits.
Laser rifle does max damage at far side of it's range, ar at the close side. So, even with similar ranges they fit different engagement ranges best. Rather then more range, it would be nice if the laser dropped in damage for a while after the current max. |

I've gotten taken out at longer ranges by a few AR's (typically while sniping). It can be a suprise when I run across someone who mows me down from farther away than expected with an AR, but as other's have said it is a rifle so it's meant for more than strictly up-close work, and with the sharpshooter skills the effective range can get pretty good. I think it's cool the skills can have such a noticeable effect if you put the points in to specialize.
When I get tagged from afar w/ the AR I just chalk it up to my needing better tactics or situational awarenss and I re-spawn. I don't think they need to be nerfed for range or damage (although I do agree w/ the comments on more recoil for lower tier AR's).
I kind of like the idea of using the Tac AR w/ my scout suit for some mid-range strategic sniping (this seems like it would be a particularly good compromise w/ the scout suits that only have 1 weapon slot). If I can make it more effective w/ the sharpshooter skill, all the better.

The longest range you'll get with a Gallente AR is 170 some meters. That's with a Duvolle Tactical AR and Sharpshooter + Sharpshooter Proficiency 5.

Its not near as bad as it was in closed beta. Im assuming you were not here when they nerfed the AR the first few times? It was the same complaint though....Nerf the AR, it shoots across the map, it does to much damage etc..
Im thinking that maybe its the Light Weapon Sharpshooter skill bonus that is causing you grief not the AR itself. Honestly id rather ccp work on the game content at this point....the weapon balance is decent and ccp can make minor changes in weapon balance after we get the full feel of what the game has to offer!
Additionally, the maps we are playing on are about 1/8th of what they are supposed to be. Once we get the full size maps you snipers will have plenty of opportunities to be untouchable! Then again, at that point this thread would read "Nerf Sniper Rifles" they can shoot across the map?
Just remember, the majority of the community uses the AR. If we nerf that again ccp will have to nerf everything else to make the majority happy? |

No it's just you, but take into account that the sharpshooter skill increases range by 5% per level, so that's an extra 25% for maxed skill. |
