Well after today's downtime public squads have been removed. As a lone wolfer I would enjoy this change as it will allow me to talk to the entire team again.
I think this is a positive change for all the randoms, to increase voice use awareness and get some level of organization going. |

I get the feeling that this is intended to make sorting pub teams easier, which will hopefully result in fewer multi-corp teams stomping all blueberry teams. |

I wouldn't put that option off the table but would be interesting if it did and kept it squads vs squads and lone wolfs vs lone wolfs. Or an even match of the two. |

How do you sort pub teams quickly in <1 min?
Normally not all are on comms, it takes >30 seconds for everyone to load in, then adding people to contacts to invite them to your squad, then load contacts, means that you might have a few seconds to talk on comms and sort it out...? |

Squads are not required to have comms, team chat is available from the get go without a uvt in war room or battle. This is basically rolling it back to the days where they first brought in squads and before forcing the public to be in squads. |

I guess I see people's points made in other threads too. This is basically a way to force everyone to be on team chat together initially. |

Well back in the old days I used a mic all the time. Before today I sorta stopped because of pub squads and generally everyone in my squad never had a mic.
Hopefully it will be 1 or 2 people but that's 1-2 people more per match and when people start to realize people talk in this game they too will probably hop on the mics.
I mean I used to remember the cross comms bug, those where halariously good. |

I think it maybe, because the random squad bug. You know the one... Everyone in the team is assigned to their own personal one man squad? A possible thirty-two squads in one match with multiple battles going on with the same problem can lead to server problems and lag.
And it can't be good for the Squad voice channel servers. Even if you don't use a mic, the game still assigns the squad a voice channel. even if you are by yourself.
If anything this is a smart move by CCP, it saves them cash from additional maintenance. Now they can pay the Devs to finish the game we are hooked on.
Edit: "Hmm... I wonder if this means the Tram will soon be open? It has been under maintenance for a very long time..." |

I am not sure, but if each solo pubbie is not put into a squad from the get-go, the game will have to sort out less voice comm channels, since there will be fewer one or two man squads. Its mostly an efficiency thing I think. Should ease up stress on the hardware and who knows....this might give more stability to our comms since the backend is not as cluttered.
If blueberries aren't automatically in a squad, they will not only be forced to learn the mechanisms to get in one, but this might finally give meaning back to team chat. Hopefully. |

Well thats the way it was back in e3 builds, people worked as teams mostly with the voice comms that where available. even those who couldnt talk got with the program. |

I agree - I really enjoyed playing around the E3 build - teamwork with randoms was actually feasible.

I'm still on the fence about this one. I remember talking to CCP devs when they were messing with the squads for US servers a few weeks ago and mentioned this. Was still on the fence then as I am now.
The people who don't have / use mics will still not have / use mics. It's not like it will magically change. And if you form a squad, drop right back down to squad chat and isolate self. The teamchat option has always been there, and if you found yourself in a micless squad, you still had the option to go to teamchat. even if your entire squad had mics, the option to goto teamchat was still there.
we'll see how it plays out, but i'm not expecting any major changes. And if we have to add them to our contacts to create the squad... ... yeah, that will be fun esp. during battle. |

Well according to the IRC crew there are far more folks on comms today than previously and team work is becomming more cordinated between all the blueberries of those who can talk. |

Hopefully with the newer squad changes comming soon we will be able to utilize the feature much better. In my honest opinion team voice chat needs to be default though for all modes. |

My experience of today was that three out of three games were solid redlines. So no observation of improved teamplay so far...
However I did notice that the 3 people per team that actually want to squad up will now more easily find each other and actually play in a squad with an active squad leader. So that's a plus. |

Downside is no more free intel from random squad members spotting enemies
Not sure what to think of the change. I solo pretty much exclusively, so while the potential of having all the players of a team in team chat is interesting, having to manually join a squad (and get stuck in that squad after match is over) doesn't sound very convenient.
Most likely 99% of every match nobody will squad up unless they are pre-formed as corp members/buddies. Which now that I think about it, gives a massive advantage to those who do squad up (as if multiple corp members in a squad didn't give enough of an advantage )
I think this widens the gap even further between solo players and squads of corp members.

Intel is shared between the whole team if you spot a guy everyone can see it.
As for squadding up those with mics are more likely to find each other. Those who like working together are more likely to invite each other as well. So more likely to find a good squad than a bad squad. |

Wow... seriously?
Who the heck wants to squad up when we could have the eyes of an entire team of players spotting!
Definitely looking forward to soling tonight! Going to be hard to go back to 4 man squads when we could potentially have a 16 man squad with eyes on all parts of the battlefield and all that wonderful intel pouring in. |

It's always been shared between the whole team - whether you are in a squad or not, if a teammate sees someone, you can see the blip on your radar and/or screen. |
