They seriously need some.
I'd like to see reduced cost and improved resistance to swarm launchers.
Sure, you can make circles around the map and stay high - but they cannot fulfill a gunship role without somebody dropping into a supply depot and taking out your 260k investment from across the map with no skill required.
Give them reduced cost, better armor and anti-missile flares. You can call in a tank and reasonably expect it to last the round while getting kills. For something that costs the same, you cannot expect the same - one guy with a swarm launcher or one accidental fishtail into an unseen crane and your baby is toast. Its an easier target, less offensively capable and less armored.
Seriously though, its messed up how easy it is to kill drop ships with swarm launchers. I want to pilot but its making me ridiculously poor.

2) Dropships are not Gunships but yes, they need to be rewarded for their role: moving people around and spawning people. Currently using a dropship for it's intended role gives you exacltly 0 WP

There dropships not gunships, those are coming later(hoprfully) but we need most of what you said anyway. PROTIP: if you hang back out of range and don't take any risks unless you have to dropships can easily last the match |

On that note, I would love to see CCP's interpretation of a gunship (Helicopter-esqe close support air vehicle) :D
OT: Cons certainly outweigh the pros. I don't see any issue with making them particularly tanky considering their extremely vulnerable position (massive floating target in the sky) and limited offensive capability. Closing the doors should pretty much make it immune from small arms fire, and resistant to AV. But AV shots that make it inside should likewise do loads of damage as they bypass all your protection. |

First of all, 260k for a dropship is weak. Dropships can currently fill a gunship role if you fit them right. My Myrons have 5k combined hp and cost 500k per dropship. With two good gunners I can hover above an objective and obliterate anyone stupid enough to pop out of cover. I can tank 5 or 6 swarm missile shots or a few forge gun hits before I need to retreat.
I do agree that some form of countermeasures would be nice for air vehicles, and that pilots do need to be rewarded more non-combat actions (such as transporting troops).
And for the record I also think that they should get rid of militia swarm launchers, militia forge guns, and all militia vehicles. If you're going to use high powered weapons or costly vehicles then you should have to spec into them first. |

You were hovering low, and your gunners were tearing my team apart. Fist and only time I've seen a dropships used in a more offensive, gunship type role. Kudos to you sir, kudos to you. |

I have to agree with Hydropix, 260k for a dropship is low. My dropship is pulling over 3k shield and goes very fast. i can tank atleast 4 swarms and 2-3 rail gun shots. You have to tech into the good vehicle mods if you want your dropship to be the best it can be. I have had a gunner get well over 10 kills in my dropship thanks to the skills i have in vehicles. Its really hard to start out as a pilot, and you meet a great deal of frustration, but if you love flying like i do then stick with it and it will pay off on its own (not in isk tho lol) |

Let me tell you this CCP needs a lot of time for the dropship simply because it's not that much right now... The skirmish maps are not that big so doing the transport thing is really hard cuz you'll fund enemy installations shooting at you if it's near enemy place...Yesterday I've gotten my Prometheus and let me say this i am proud to be a dropship pilot. But at the same time i fell really angry because i've spent a lot of time/skill/isk on it and when i want to fit it the way i want i can. This one time i wanted to fit in a booster (which i have the skill for it) my turrets (which are at the highest level) and a heavy armor repair and remote repair.. But all that was like 149/160 CPU and 2258/559 PG. Where in a tank you get so much pg and CPU (i get that in their place they require more but lets say i wanted to get my PG near somewhere in the thousands guess what i cant because the highest PG upgrade for the vehicles are +15. How the **** im i supposed to go from 559 to a thousand eh? and most modules i have are Level ones. So dropships really need a lot of "love". Even though their main role right now as many people are saying is to "drop people of" Let me tell you that right now in skirmish (which i hope aren't the largest map, sense if EvE fanfest 2011 they showed as a big skirmish) there isn't a lot to do with the dropship.. Mainly to get me some points on the dropships i go to ambush and get my good gunners (who are really helpful) and let them kill the hell out of the enemy. I hope later on when the game comes out they give you the choice to have a lot of passengers (need to skill it up) or less passengers and more guns or tank more. CCP please wok on the dropships there aren't a lot of people who fly them as it is.
I've spawned militia tanks in ambush and skirmish maps and have gotten way more points then say me and my guys at our best(which get like 20 and above) |
