Like the concept but if you have been playing for a while you have a significant advantage over other players. And because the Skill points accumulate so slowly you will maintain that advtange pretty much without challenge. |

they'll prolly always have more sp... but for a certain build, theres only so much sp that can go into it, so in theory even new ppl will be balanced with vets if they play long enough Like for example, a vet will have more sp, but with the extra sp after say an assault build, he'll just have more to goof off with, while a newer person can get the same assault build, just simply not extra to mess around with. But 1 v 1, their skills being used can be exactly the same. |

Have to disagree with you both. Played other MMO's and as FPS the difference is significant. And its not about skill when your guns armor and loadouts are supperior and catching up is about impossible becuase of how slow SP builds up. |

It's baked into the system. Increasing SP rewards isn't going to magically let you catch up to the vets, because they'll be getting SP faster as well.
Having 700k and fighting someone with 3 million hurts, but having 3 million and fighting someone with 7 million is way more competitive. |

I will disagree as well. I started this character a month after Open Beta (had SP thrown in seemingly random spots plus wanted to change my name and race/merc HQ). Only a few days in and I already feel on par for the most part.
They give you more than enough starter skill points to quickly make a viable suit fitting for public matches. And it doesn't take too long to max out a particular fitting. There quickly gets to the point where skill points can't make your favorite fitting that much better, so the only advantage long time players will have is more variety in what fittings they choose. |

So what, if someone picked up this game 3 months after launch, of course they're going to be behind. Happens in EVE too. |

It's an MMORPG, the game IS balanced since that Vets do have the advantage of more SP as they should, It's an MMO to that extent. Why would anyone play a game where you don't get better than other players by playing.
What MMO have you played that a new player can start today and do better than someone whose been playing a month?
The answer really is that Dust is the only PvP MMO that enables new players to take down Vets.

The week head start that we closed beta testers got over the open betas is negligible after a month because you should have your core skills fleshed out and have begun to specalize anyway.
We are now into our 2nd month of "open beta" and people are complaining that the players who started day 1 of open beta are too far ahead of them. TFB, there is always goig to be someone ahead of you in an online game of any type. You don't like that I might have a couple hundred thousand SP lead on you? Grind your ass off after you reach the cap for the week (Can be done in 1 day if you can afford to play all day) and then the rest of the week till the reset is bonus as there is no hard cap on SP, just the 1000-1500 soft cap which is a hell of alot better than the daily cap that we had when us closed beta testers "had our head start" as a way of saying thank you for putting up with he previous 6 months of game breaking glitches/bugs, and in the beginning ONLY BEING ABLE TO PLAY ON THE WEEKEND BECAUSE THE SERVERS WEREN'T UP DURING THE WEEK.
Thre will always be hardcore players who are ahead of you because they can afford the time to play more than you. If you are one of those hardcore players who is just now getting into it and pissed off because you can't grind and grind and catch up/ pass the older hardcore players, TFB, grind away as much as you can and pray to whatever god you believe in that they are forced to take a day/week/month off so you can maybe catch up. |

I will give you an instant win build.
1.create new character, use arbiter build. 2.buy aurum 3. put the remaining skill points into assault DS, AR operation, light weapon sharpshooter, weaponry, CPU upgrade. 4. use aurum to buy Neo assault a series ( 3 highs,2lows,1 equip, 1 grenade, 1 side arm.) 5. fit 3 complex light dmg mods in your high slots, cpu extender in low and armor rep or plate in low. 6. run blindfire AR.
Grats you have a broken lvl 1 dropsuite that does 43 dmg per shot. |

lol at these responses...this is not a RPG. I agree OP the skillbook system puts newbies at a ridiculous disadvantage. Unfortunately many of these people think that they can treat characters in an arena shooter the same way they treat spaceships in a fantasy role-playing game and get positive results. Little do they know that competitive FPS games do not work this way. |

If Activision connects Call of Duty to EVE servers and CCP gives EVE pilots the ability to call in killstreaks for Call of Duty players, would that suddenly make Call of Duty a MMORPG? |

Truth be told I am enjoying the game quite a bit. Just wish SP went up a little quicker. I think this is an awesome design and has alot of depth. When it finally releases it will only get better. I am also starting to play Eve and looking forward to getting better at that as well. |

Check your audio input section. I'm pretty sure the Astro mic inputs through the USB port, so make sure you have that selected. |

Simple solution, match people with nearly the same SPs in the same match. Problem solved whiners.
This game ops just like Eve, the skills give a small edge.
Only thing i see wrong right now, balance wise. is the Keyboard & mouse player is far overpowered. and i know, cause im running it. i turn faster, i aim faster, everything. its like im playing BF2142 all over again.
if this game stays KB&M and the game is succesful, get a keyboard and mouse. srsly
PS: 650K Skill points. Went 24&6 last match. top of my team, SP dont mean nuffin |

Upgradable stats are what define an rpg in the video game world. If DUST didn't have those it would just be an fps connected to a mmorpg just a CoD would be if it were connected to EVE without having stats added to it.

You will be able to catch up and stay competitve.
Here is the thing: at a certain point, any player will accumulate enough total SP and max out all the skills for his specialization. This moment will take place in different time for everyone, but once the player has hit this barrier, he/she can't progress any further down that skill branch. End of the line.
Now, where will new SP go? Into other specializations and branches, which the vets will be starting from anew, just like any newcomer would. Thus, it's only a matter of time once you'll be able to stay competitive with the veterans, if you feel the gap is too wide at the moment. We exclude FPS skill from this altogether, though; truthfully, such skill may cross all SP boundaries.
P.S. As it has been mentioned before, quickening the SP progression will not change anything, since the difference in progression speeds of a vet and a new player will stay the same. |
