Also I'm predicting that weaponry aside, you've yet to do the 4 primary skills. You who know, know what. what are the 4 primary skills? If you say shields and mechanics for example, I would say your wrong. Suits out trump them. Then again, I guess it depends on your play style. Weaponry aside, they are Field Mechanics, Shield Control, Circuitry, and Combat Engineering. They are like the gateway skills to all other skills and provide the most beneficial bonuses. How much would your Proto suit be worth with nothing but militia modules? Disagree and here's why: For vehicles, it makes a big difference, for suits...not so much. Ask yourself what is 5% of my base shield or base armor...? If your base armor is 175, and you add 25% to that, you get 43.75 extra base armor...that is basically two bullets...are you are telling me that 2 bullets are worth 300,000 SP. Shield control is an even bigger discrepancy as it costs what, 1.2M SP for a two bullet boost to your shield. Heavy T1 and Heavy T2 is a bit of a different story as as your 5% increase is larger due to the large base numbers. but these skills allow you to fit better mods and more intensive mods/weapons
What does Mechanics level 5 allow you to add to your dropsuit?

Nope. I'm stopping at Type B until I see all the new dropsuits. In the meantime I'll be skilling up all the nice passive stuff (shields, armor, LW stuff, etc.). I'm sure there will be tons of tears when the new suits are released and people spent so much SP getting the ones currently implemented that they no longer want. |

Only issue is you may still need to have level 5 assault dropsuit to access the new ones coming in....so, it still wouldn't be a waste if you did it. But I'm like you, proto is overkill so I'm stopping at Bseries.
But I have seen one proto dropsuit already so does depend on how many people start bringing them out |

I've already got my AR operation to level 4 and weaponry to level 5 and shield enhancements to level 3. I think it would be best to take advantage of the current SP system earning 400,000-500,000 SP a week. and get the most expensive skill to level 5 while we still can before CCP drastically reduces the amount of SP earned from matches or reduces the cap.
I thought the cap was 190,000? |

Decided to stop at Assault Type -B, only 400,000 SP left to go. The way I see it the protosuits are way to expensive in terms of ISK and SP right now to take the leap of faith with the investment, I don't think anyone has enough ISK to maintain them if they plan to use them as their go to suit.
Also, Still being in a Beta where lots more is still to come, you should tread carefully when allocating your SP. At this same time however, the Protosuit allows a lot more modules and equipment to be equipped but right now the SP trade-off for those modules can easily be allocated into other less costly skills to gain the same effect.
All in all, I think skilling into the passive skills first will keep you at a level that's comparative or equal to wearing prototype gear with enhanced/complex modules but at a lower SP cost and more effective distribution, don't forget these skills will allow you to fit 1 or 2 enhanced modules of your desire. After these skills have been maxed out and ISK is more abundant to you, then is the time to get the prototype gear.
EDIT: Oh wow, just realized I started this and I unknowingly answered my own question. Silly OP is me. |

Gaechti wrote:IMHO: Proto gear is not worth it till you have complex dmg mods, complex shield extenders and complex shield regualtors to fit on them. And to be able to fit all the complex ones, you need circuitry 5 and some CPU lowering skills too. Dont forget important skills like shield control and field mechanics too. Like lvl2 in shield control gives you same as miltia -> adv extenders, but for free, each death..
You can make adv suits as good as proto for less than half the price. The reason why you wanna move to proto suits is the CPU drain of top tier modules and weapons.
Same goes for Duvolle, IMHO not worth it untill top notch fittings: GEK with a complex dmg is almost as good as Duvoll with adv dmg at half the price and same CPU/PG drain.
A well fitted proto suit will cost you 200k per death...
I would generaly say: dont even THINK about proto suits below 3m total SP
