Weaponry aside, they are Field Mechanics, Shield Control, Circuitry, and Combat Engineering. They are like the gateway skills to all other skills and provide the most beneficial bonuses. How much would your Proto suit be worth with nothing but militia modules?
What's the use of having complex modules if you can't fit them in your suit?
Not to mention, shield enhancements and weaponry are the gateway skills to the most essential modules. Combat engineering, field mechanics are not as necessary as some of the others. |

Only issue is you may still need to have level 5 assault dropsuit to access the new ones coming in....so, it still wouldn't be a waste if you did it. But I'm like you, proto is overkill so I'm stopping at Bseries.
But I have seen one proto dropsuit already so does depend on how many people start bringing them out |
