first off, crossbows wouldn't be manufactured by Gallente simply for the fact they love to make Advance Technology as well as Drones to have everything done for them. this makes crossbows from Gallente a "most likely never" kind of senario.
Second, do you even know how a crossbow works? obviously not sence you called the ammo BOW's, which are a different weapon. They are called BOLTS and they have to be handloaded as well as the string (which is twice as LONG as the body if you layed it next to the crossbow) needs to be pulled back.
Third, you need to be able to eather drop your targets Fast or in One Shot in this game. sence the crossbow would be doing only 60 HP, limited range, and everything NEEDS to be done by hand....you an't going to see pratical use in Dust....Ever. |

Despite the errors in his post something like a crossbow could work. Maybe some kind of semi auto bolt thrower. It could have maybe 6 bolts in it's clip. A sort of mid to long range scout type weapon. Fires as fast as you can pull the trigger. Lots of damage with a longer reload time because you have to insert each bolt into the launcher |

Oh god, its back.
We use electromagnetically propelled superheated plasma rounds, railguns, lasers, missiles, even the most primitive race has proper guns and grenade launchers. Using a crossbow to propel rounds would be insane considering how advanced we all are.
I would prefer a rifle that shoots bolts instead. |

I like the idea. Nothing wrong with a techy launcher that resembles a crossbow. Ammo types could be really interesting, from timed explosives to shield piercing arrow heads. Make it 90hp, if it ignored dropsuit shields and was semi automatic, with a 6 round clip... it could be doable.
Why have it instead of plasma guns and all the other crazy tech? Because it's an efficient delivery system of larger payloads, similar to grenade launchers, only a little smaller projectile. Instead of wire, why not electromagnetic slings? |

Why would anyone use a crossbow when they could use a rail gun, forge gun, plasma based assault rifle or even a mass driver. Seems a bit archaic. |

Also... if were going all medieval, why not give us swords? At least a sword is more suited to melee than the blunt end of a gun. |

I loved the bow in Crysis 2.
For DUST a silencer on the Tactical Sniper rifle would be much more consistent within the universe. And if you think bullet drop wasn't an issue regarding Sniper rifles than wait until you get a maximum range bolt into a Merc.
I didn't notice any inverse law regarding damage over range as is the case with a crossbow. At half range the damage would be max but each 10% additional the damage will drop some amount. 5-10% would be consistent with the technology.
Unless the atmosphere is such it lubricates the bolt in flight.
Overall it is not a weapon I would want in DUST.
An entire new set of animations and modeling would be required as the crossbow will clip into structures if held correctly and one is standing next to an obstacle. Adding unique animations and new 3d model resolutions are not something I would suggest under any circumstance at this stage of development. |

Minmatar Bolt Gun:
Single shot, high damage, charge weapon that's effective for medium range engagements. You load a 16" bolt into the back of the gun made of some random EVE metal that would work. You charge the weapon sending ultra high frequencies through the bolt, the higher the charge the more damage it does. Once the weapon is fully charged it automatically releases the super heated bolt or else risk damaging the gun.
I don't know if this will help make everyone happy, but a crossbow has met alot of hate in the past.
EDIT: doesn't resemble a crossbow what so ever, more comparable to the javelin gun from deadspace 2 |

I've got a good one.
What if the bolts don't do any damage, but they attach the the enemies armor and destroys their shields. That would make the crossbow a great one-shot support weapon. More long-term than an anti-shield grenade. |

it would make more sense for the bolt to be more of a mobile and easy to deploy short range sensor, you shoot it at an object and for 1minute it detects enemies within say 50m. |

The concept of using mechanical advantage through a tension unit (also called a cam) in a universe where Railguns fire hyperheated bolts of molten metal is absurd. The only time that a weapon of this nature would be warranted is when sensors detect EM energy (or any techno babble for that matter) and immediately alert someone to it's presence.
A better, albeit still worthless, application is a pneumatic ion bolt projector (or something) which scrambles sensors on suits thus impairing their A/V communication, HUD, Radar, and Shield / Module use. |
