for me its zero fun trying to get into a new game and being constantly killed by other players that outclass us noobs in nearly every aspect...
better dropsuits, weapons, mods, shields, armor, skill levels, etc.
and to top it off, more experience.
essentially, imo, this is not the way you try to expand your community but hey, we all know what 'they' say about opinions.
i have no problem competing with the 'higher level' guys as far as basic game mechanics, but when they constantly have 2x as much armor as i do, do 2x as much damage as i do and are 2x as accurate (due to skill levels purchased, not innate ability) its nigh impossible to get any enjoyment from playing.
i really enjoy the concept of the game and am very interested in how it will be at release but, well...
i may come back again next time the stats are wiped but as it stands now its basically pure frustration. :( |

Stats were indeed wiped a couple weeks before open beta.
I die plenty from militia guns, the stat increases are not generally as high as your implying (comparing your suit to anothers) and the highest SP I know of is 2 mil. A good sum but for example heavy armor 2 will cost you 180k sp? 150k sp? Something like that. He has extra points but it isn't ground shattering.
Nothing I have seen in terms of gear has beaten effective team play. Communicate and you get effort where you need, have a strong team behind you and you'll wash over others.
The strongest advantage the players have is the experience to keep together, understand the situation, bail on strong points and strike at weak points. |

we only had a 2 week head start. and tbh it's not like you can get god mode in 2 weeks. Thts what we got for testing this game for a year. Lol. |

Yes they're strong and have an edge over me but they're still easily kill-able if you take the time out of your life to not blindly rush into the fray.
Yes I'm saying you're not good enough to kill them anyways even if you had a SP advantage. |

People know the maps, the spawns, the ins and outs of the game, and are most likely very used to the sensitivity and flow of this game by now. Two weeks of SP doesn't make THAT big of a difference. The best you can do is tough through it because it won't get any better. Skill > Gear at this point in the game, IMO, not sure how it'll be several months down the road though. |

But as stated above, we only got a couple weeks before you. It's mainly player skill from getting used to the game for nearly a year. Hell, I actually didn't start playing on TQ until a couple days AFTER the move. Just keep playing, and skill up. You'll get better. (AND you'll be thankful you got in and got playing as early as you did.) |

They also should have erased our memories.
I know all of the maps too well and even with a character that I haven't upgraded any skills with that plays the starter fittings I can still finish in the middle of the leader boards.
Also they should wipe everyone's character after every match to make it fair just in case anyone starts to pull ahead in the great SP race.
And they should make it so that the higher your KDR the less damage your weapon does.

Hope you stick around, it is a very complex and cool FPS imo. I wouldn't suggest "leaving" and then "coming back" as the gear gap will only get more pronounced. Just keep at it.
The best option is find a good corp and run with 4 man squads. This game requires teamwork. Some of the beta testers have been "testing" this game for close to a year and it shows. Listen to James from PFB, his explaination is spot on.
The gear differential is noticeable mainly in suits, the weapon damage has been flattened so damage from Milita gear to Proto gear is minimal. Try different combinations of modules on your suits. For example, right now what weapon are you specd into? What suit did you go with? Any pts into Shields? Sharpshooter?
All of the above skills add up and then when you group that with knowledge of the game, some players will be tougher to kill than others.
Hang around though, it'll get easier. I felt same way back in the day. |

im tempted to reply to some of the ppl that are just being dicks in here but am deciding to just let them showcase thier stupidity on their own, no need for me to point out the obvious.
i think ill start a new character and dump all my initial points into suit and weapon and see if it helps.
initially i tried to be more of a team asset in ways other than straight up killing...hacking, reviving, repairing, etc.
but the points i put there left my dropsuit and weapon skills pretty low. especially for a starter i suppose.

When open beta started closed beta vet's had about 1.5mil sp and that's only if like me they used both passive and active booster's which allow you to gain 537,600sp per week not counting the 50/75with booster after hitting the daily cap |

Dude before the wipe we had X Millions of SP. I don't think you understand that the SP we have now is a fraction of what we had before....a two week head-start is miniscule and I'm sorry you are an Open Beta person but in the future a person will join to face off against people with 20 Mill SP and be ultra-boned so don't go complaining on 14 days of SP. |

Posting again... but you might be holding out for something that will never happen. Tthere won't be another stat reset. Not unless there is some kind of drastic problem with the game.
So if you are waiting for some moment in the game where no single player will have any sort of advantage over any other player in terms of SP it is already too late.
If you stop playing now all of the noobs that beta testers are using to mop the floor with in the ol' communications facility that stick with the game will have evolved into deadly killing machines and the longer you wait the number of players with more SP than you could increase exponentially...
But perhaps at some point the will introduce match making in instant battles. You could wait until then and may have a better chance of only being matched with players of similar "skill" but who knows how that will work.
The other thing that some people have been alluding to is that SP seems like much more of an advantage than it really is. The advantage is almost meaningless in practice, that is, it gives a slight edge to players that are already good. But all the SP in the world will not help you more than slightly if you are, like me, average at best.
Finally, all hope is not lost, if you invest wisely you can max out a few stats to match those of long time vets in less than a week. |

Run a speed shotti scout suit made from all militia gear. It can one shot everything except a heavy, for them it take two. Learn how to be stealthy and sneak around while coming up behind guys and popping them.
Or, jump into a turret and start taking people out. Or run a logi suit and stay behind your blue dot kilers and repair them. Or, get into a LAV and play Carmageddon. Or jump into a tank gunner spot and gun. Or sneak around and hack everything.
So many options for low SP toons as they build up their SP. Get to it. |

To be clear... the stats were 100% wiped before Open Beta. The thing was, for testing the game for as long as we did, CCP allowed us into the "Early Access" program which was 12 days before it opened to the masses. That is 240,000 (without boosters). Plus the free 100,000 so 340,000. That is not a lot to make someone "OP" and ROLFStomp a newbie.
Here is wherre the advantage comes from: We veterans already KNOW what to do. There is no fidling around with trying to figure out where to put our skillpoints - we already know. We already know what mods / equipment to put on our dropsuit.
Remember, many of us were in the closed beta for a year. We know the maps like the back of our hands. We know were the installations are, supply depots, good hiding spots, etc... Also, certain mechanics are broken, and guess who knows which ones
And you might want to reconsider comming back as baring some extremely horrible accident, stats will not be wiped again. So you will really be far behind. I recommend asking around in your local / corp for some advice from a veteran player for suggestions |

New players are over exagerating the advantage older player have over them. There is definitely an advantage over newer players but its marginal. I've yet to encounter any players who look like Super soldiers, every time I've died it's either been due to the following...
1.) Being outgunned 2.) Being outnumbered 3.) Spawning with the back of my head against someone's gun barrel

You are way off any vet's that used no boosters if played everyday would have gained 714,400 sp 326,400 active + 288,000 passive + 100,000 reward for playing during the early access |

You have no right to call anyone ignorant, bub. The proto weapons only deal, at max, +25% damage over their standard counterparts. The proto suits do not get a standard health buff. Accuracy can increase to a max of 25% (and only on the weapons who have access to a skill book that allows it), and range can be increased to something similar for many weapons.
Do not call people out as ignorant unless you actually know what the hell you're talking about. |

considering we only had about a 2 week head start, and that there was a pretty severe skillpoint cap in place for all of that (27,200 per day) we're not THAT far ahead of someone who had started on day 1 of the open beta.
not to mention that ccp has said it's unlikely that we'll ever be wiped again, so quitting now is just gonna put you further behind.
But more to the point, this is just how it's gonna be in every game with any kind of progression system. really any game with any competitive aspect when you think about it. newbies generally get beaten by veterans. at LEAST until they learn the ropes.
blame modern warfare, but there aren't many shooters nowadays without SOME kind of progression system. so someone getting in late is always gonna be at some disadvantage.
honestly you should be THANKFUL that ccp has had a skillpoint cap in place so you're only as far behind as you are. i know i've been playing games after hitting the cap, and so haven't plenty of other people. in any other game we'd be even FURTHER ahead of you.
i'm sorry but if you want progression in your games, SOMEONE is gonna be left behind at some point. if you DON'T want progression in your game, this isn't your game. i wish i could recommend something for you but the old days of quake are gone. maybe keep an eye on this? |

The difference between a guy with 2 million and a guy just starting out (500k) is pretty daunting, I'll admit, but the difference between a guy with 4 mil and a guy with 2 mil is not nearly as drastic.
I've been playing since last march, and with almost every build I've started out with a terrible KDR (either negative or an epic struggle to maintain 1.07) and then, as I accumulate SP, watch it slowly tick upwards.
If you have a plan for your character and invest your points well, the veterans' head start will completely cease to matter somewhere around 4-5 million SP. (Very debatable, but in previous builds the 5 million mark seemed to be the magic number where my merc no longer felt deficient in any way.) |
