Furley,
Those of us in the closed beta were rewarded by CCP with a 12 day headstart. It really isn't that big of a deal. Dust is deep and bad sp management can make your progress a little slower than it has to be. Take the time to really think about what skills will help you get where you want to be. If you need some help join a corp and start running with them. A good corp will help you by teaching you the ins and outs as well as helping you pick a good skill path. Some corps have membership requirements others dont. Check the recruitment threads.
Hopefully you stick it out and thanks for not feeding the trolls. |

All I can say is short bursts and headshots. If you were looking for more of a support role were you using the logistic suit? Those things are much easier to kill than assaults (all things being equal) and require a different kind of playstyle than running and gunning unless you can rock the great gear.
Keep at it or you'll just be further behind everybody else. |

You also have to keep in mind getting used to the game. I was HORRIBLE at Dust when I first started, but I've improved leaps and bounds, despite numerous SP wipes. I see a lot of the new guys making the same mistakes I did when I first started playing. It doesn't have anything to do with SP or gear, its just combat experience in the game itself.
We had a 12 day head start and 100k SP bonus for playing in those 12 days, but we also had PSN downtime to deal with, which many of use were unable to play and lost out on a chunk of SP, so the advantage is not insurmountable.
Also 25% is kind of the magic number for infantry stats. Armor and Shield HP can be increased by a max of 25%. Accuracy, Range, Reload Speed, Stamina, Powergrid, CPU, ect. can all only be increased by 25%, and in some cases that requires a month or more of training to increase one of those to the full 25%.
Weapons only get stronger by a factor of 5% a level, so at most they'll have a 10% base advantage over you (Unless they of course sacrifice shield defenses for damage modifiers, then it can be increased further). Also keep in mind that Militia weapons have very similar stats to Standard weapons. Usually same damage, accuracy, and range, but lower magazine capacity and reload speed.
Despite all this, I think the biggest difference is that the veterans have really learned the value of specialization. 90% of my corp has been assigned specific roles and skill plans thats they're training to make them the absolute best at a specific role, rather than a jack of all trades, master of none, which most new players do. Because of this, those who have specialized are going to stomp you very quickly if you engage them on there terms. This is a team game, not just in gameplay but in how you build your characters. I suggest you find a group that has players that compliment your playstyle so its easier to specialize and perform better.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me via DustMail or visit our website (www.osg-gaming.com) We have a lot of valuable tutorials and information to help out newer players such as yourself. |

Making new character isn't needed, just start putting sp into the area you want to improve, what you spent sp on already will still be useful later.
Guns and suits are not best to spend on right away. I have over 2 million sp and ar and assault are only level 2. Get weaponry skill to level 3 or 4, this will give more damage then better gun and is less sp. Training a skill to 5 costa as much as 2 skills to 4, so wait awhile on last level, but it should be the first you train to 5. I use type-ii assault and standard ar. Main benifit of ar skill is the reduced recoil, but it doesn't have much anyway so other skills are more useful.
The light weapon reload and sharpshooter skills are good, train as your char needs them. Capacity is good too, but you don't need it till you live long enough to run low on ammo, train it once you start running out.
Gunning in vehicle turrets of higher sp player, and doing support/hacking are good ways to get the sp needed to improve combat ability. Last June I started playing and people had tens of millions of sp, I hacked things and used stealth till I had enough sp to compete.
About a week after open beta I made a new char and had a positive kdr, so closed beta testers knowledge gained helps us more then the sp we gained early.
If you want so more specific advice feel free to mail me with question in game, char I use most is Sophia Borjia, so I will respond fasted if send to that char. |

better dropsuits, weapons, mods, shields, armor, skill levels, etc.
and to top it off, more experience.
essentially, imo, this is not the way you try to expand your community but hey, we all know what 'they' say about opinions.
i have no problem competing with the 'higher level' guys as far as basic game mechanics, but when they constantly have 2x as much armor as i do, do 2x as much damage as i do and are 2x as accurate (due to skill levels purchased, not innate ability) its nigh impossible to get any enjoyment from playing.
i really enjoy the concept of the game and am very interested in how it will be at release but, well...
i may come back again next time the stats are wiped but as it stands now its basically pure frustration. :(
Dude, two weeks? Thats squat for SP with the current system. The reason we beat you is cause we have been playing for nearly a year. Now pull up your pants, stop crying and adapt or die! |

Well, the other, possibly more significant bonus closed testers got was extremely cheap militia/standard suit BPOs.
From 20-30 AUR/ea
To
Current prices
While I don't think the BPOs are "pay to win," I'm kinda annoyed with the decision to turn them into part of the MT scheme. Seems like a decision that will dumb the economy a bit as things go forward. While it's in line with other F2P FPS games, other FPS games aren't also trying to merge their economies with a market centric, established MMO... |

If you enjoyed the concept of the game, then stay with it. Don't leave and come back when they reset skills; because they wont be doing that anymore. Get in the battlefield now because the longer you wait and complain then you'll end up not enjoiyng a game that you once did. |

I started playing at the end of singularity servers... At that point proto guns were ******** and everyone had 10s of million sp.... It sucked however... I got fairly good fairly quickly and when the reset came around I knew what to spec into.
Try to only spec up attributes that affect all suits until you've decided what role you'd like to fulfill
Get into a corp... Squad up at very least (try the lfsquad channel) learn to play as a group
Get a mic
And most of all, don't get frustrated, it isn't a "pick up and win" type of game, somebody will always be better
Oh and lastly... Run the hell outtve your militia suits while the gap isn't that big and bank some isk... Once you're running mid level suits you'll see why
Good luck and happy hunting |
