Also, I noticed on several occasions, my ar would not fire at all. Never happened, to me, before sound issue. display shows I have 60 rounds loaded, but won't fire. Have to switch weapon & back again to correct. |

I believe that's an unrelated issue.
Does everyone who is having sound issues use a surround sound setup, or is it affecting folks with stereo as well? I noticed a bit ago that sounds are being sent to the wrong speakers as well. I was looking directly at a tiny laser guy fighting a blueberry 100 meters or so in the distance, and his laser sounds were sweeping through my rear speakers as though he was behind or right next to me, instead of way off in the distance where it should have just been quiet in my center channel. |

Stereo here since I use optical at surround for other stuff. |

Ha, I probably should have checked the forums before submitting a bug report, now I feel like a jerk. Good to know the devs are aware of it.

I think everyone is keeping this thread alive to give you guys exact information on the issues with sound they are experiencing. To all my fellow dusters please help by describing your problem with sound maybe it will help :) |

Sound working fine to me. If you claim it's not working after this hotfix make private youtube video and link here tbh, that helps them the most to see how it is now. |

The patch was an improvement, but it's still far from acceptable.
Post-update sound glitches I've noticed so far:
* Enemy weapons and bullets not always heard -- most obvious was when a blaster tank was firing at me (close to moderate distances). * MCC explosion didn't make any sound, background explosions were still playing. * An entire "Objective A, NULL cannon..."-message was omitted (before the recent problems they'd stutter/skip at worst). * You-got-a-kill-sound not always playing.
The top glitch is obviously the most serious one. |

Was better for a while but about 10 minutes into a skirmish match tank weapons started to stutter and could not hear enemy fire. Did hear when enemy weapons struck tank.
In the next skirmish battle moved to a squad with three players with mics. In the war room heard them fine. Moved to battle and the chat systems failed. No chat, no icon showing that I had headphones after I switched to another channel and back to squad.
Chat problem persisted after the battle. Leaving the game caused the PS3 to reboot.
Time about 15:20 Eve time. |

Played a few more games and now I'm certain -- audio is still useless for situational awareness (in a way it's actually worse now since it's not as obvious, I had to keep reminding myself not to rely on what I hear). |

It honestly seems like the problem occurs when sounds begin to overlay each other. If I am on my own far away from everyone sound works fine. |

in terms of the op's post relating to hit detection i do feel that hits are missed when the sound goes from off to on in its glitchyness, no idea how but it feels that way, talking standard AR here. will have to see about fixes after i get home today though. :) |

I take back what I said about the patch today being an improvement. Only thing that was "better" was that I always heard my *own* weapon.
Enemy weapons even close by were absolutely silent quite often. Had someone shooting me from behind a few metres away but the only sound I heard were the bullets going by -- suggesting it was someone at a distance (until I turned around and saw how close he was that is). |

the improvement was quite low for me. AR and HMG can be slightly heard sometimes but everything else is like a ninja. |

The improvement has increased with near sounds, however the dynamic range of the entire battlefield is still "muted" this may be result of the dts signal processing though i am not sure.
Ive tested both through my headset and surround sound theater, each has similar results, ive increased the ingame volume to 100 from my previous setting of 50 prior to original hotfix. This has only provided minor help.
The center sounds do come in clearly however the surround field is what is diminished there is no scope to the battlefield, sounds are easily lost in the background and simply dont have the same immersion effect as prior to the original hotfix.
Ive had to increase the bass and treble on my headset to just get a decent volume on center sounds, left right, rear all are really low.
This is all tested in ambush where there are far fewer competing sounds, i will update after checking out skirmish, which i will note had far greater sound dropout and lost sound(dialogue, missles, mcc explosions etc) than ambush.
That said if the aim of this hotfix was to first ensure sounds were not being omitted with a future hotfix to return DTS DSP effects than as far as i can tell in that regard it is successuful in ambush anyway |

After playing this evening (skirmish only) my conclusion is that the sound is MUCH better... Still a few cutouts but they only lasted moments at a time and I almost ALWAYS heard my own weapon. I notice alot of other people are still experiencing issues but it was positively a step forward from where it was (in most cases).... Anyway it is getting better!! thank you CCP and here is my sound update for today!!
the shotgun sounds were working for me (enemy fire)
forge gun full charge now worked (own gun) + (enemy fire)
lav noise seemed to represent the right distance/loudness
blaster fire cut in and out a bit
precision strikes were 25% silent 75% working (close estimate)
Hope this helps! |

I realize that the audio will be rolled back in just over an hour but I thought they should know about this oddity.
I was in a three Merc Squad and one got left behind at a Deployment. Two of us Left Battle then Left Squad and the other restart their client. The restarted client Merc sent new invites out and we got into a new squad.
The First Skirmish I had no sound at all. All silent movie for the entire time although Squad Chat still worked. Neither Squad member had the problem.
The next Skirmish my sound was back and gave no further problems.
This was NA, Ashland, Skirmish and ~08:45 GMT on a Fat PS3 non-PS2 compatible. |

Just played four matches and I can now report that my sound is still broken after reverting back to the old sounds. At least twice in every match for about 15 seconds all audio cut off. Sound even cut offs when I am back in my room restocking my suit. |
