1.) Heavy Gunner- I'm a little aggravated by this guy, Is this class unstoppable unless you're a sniper or have a rocket launcher or something. After playing the game for the first time extensively today, I've noticed every game there are 1 or 2 Heavy Gunners just tanking through everybody. 3 or 4 guys against 1 Heavy and we all died in a matter of seconds. These guys also always get the godlike scores I've noticed 12-0, 17-2, etc.. I'm not making this up, I've seen it first hand. So whats the counter to this guy?
2.) Scope/ Red Dot / Weapon attachments? Are there any currently in the game, I know this is a beta so If they aren't I'd really like to see them in the full release.
3.) AUR- Is there really anything WORTH buying with AUR? The boosters Seem pretty nifty but with the SP cap does it even matter? The weapons all have a very minimal increase in stats compared to their ISK counterparts. Am i missing something here, I'm glad it's not pay to win but I could see something like a Permanent weapon with slightly better stats then their militia counter parts being worth the 5 bucks, yet I don't see anything like that here.
4.) Not a question just a quick useful tip I came across via the awesome local chat, to switch between characters without having to quit and restart the game, just sign out of PSN and log back in. It should take you back to the character select screen. Hope I'm no the only one who didn't know this...
5.) I've noticed the term "Meta Level" on certain weapons and stuff, what does this mean.
6.) Will there ever be customizable colors or parts for the drop suits? I understand in game we have to be color coordinated to identify teammates, but man I at least want to be unique when I'm in my little jail cell type room. Better yet I hope eventually I can just take off my helmet when I'm not on the battlefield, you know give my character a face with personality?
7.) What is up with the reloading system in this game, I've died so many times after watching my guy pull out his empty magazing insert another one and charge at the enemy headstrong only to get killed because apparently the magazine he just put in his gun was a blank. I feel that at the point of animation you've inserted a new clip canceling the animation with a run SHOULD NOT cancel the reload.
8.) Grenades, pretty much useless. Slow to select, slow to throw, slow to detonate, small blast radius. Or is it just me?
This is not a QQ thread, I'm loving the game a lot!! Just thought I'd share my thoughts and opinions. |

Welcome to New Eden & all the joys that it holds!;-)
1. Heavy with a HMG -> Yes these fellows are tricky turnips at this early stage. The best advice I can give you is not to take them head on, preferably get behind them & empty your clip into their head. If that isn't possible, use the cover available & a grenade or two if needed. But if all else fails, just do as much damage as you can & if you die, so be it. You would have done your bit for the team & your teammates can mop up.:-) This game is not about KD/R it's about winning.:-)
2. Yep, weapon attachments will be coming....
3. AUR items usually give you the chance to access next level equipment early without you spending the extra SP. So from that aspect it is worth while if you want to play that way. There are a couple of AUR items that I feel are essential to game play really such as the nanohive that also repairs dropsuit armour. To get the ISK version is a massive investment, so I prefer to use my AUR for these. Helps me, helps my team & consequently I get a few extra WPs.:-)
4. The bane of everyone who runs a couple of characters.:-)
5. From what I understand, meta is the quality of your items. And relates to the payout, so if you kill someone with higher meta than you, you earn more? I'm a little flaky on this myself tbh.:-)
6. Another feature that will be coming soon & will probably be cosmetic changes purchased via AUR.
7. Yep, reloading is a little buggy & is under investigation by CCP.
8. Yeah, CCP dropped a clanger here & gave into all the whiners about grenades. The two second fuse was perfect, however now they've changed it to longer even a heavy has chance to run away ... So much for future warfare.;-) What I would suggest is put SP into level 1 grenades & buying the flux grenades. They're awesome for all occasions both vehicles & infantry. Especially handy for question number 1 here about heavies.:-)

Hey again Ruby, Thought you might come here soon enough.
Long reply income :P
Anyway
1) the heavy gunners are hard to take down and near imposable if you run head long at them, remember heavy (a lot of armour) gunner (big gun) Think slow and dumb just get behind them and stay out of the way of the pointy end, they go down soon enough. What's hard is the situational awareness needed to know if that an assault trooper, scout or heavy before you engage them. if you know what's coming before it is there you know if you should wait in ambush to get behind them or be aggressive and take them head on. remember deep game, lots of tactics you will learn but keep at it.
2) i mentions this in local but as the game is now there are no attachments, some guns come with sights some don't but regardless your stuck with the scope the gun has. at some point attachments will be introduced with everything from scopes to silencers to ammo types but how far off all that is is anyone's guess and better people than me have tried to. XD
3) you will soon realise in this game that a lvl5 assault rifle that cost 10 times more than the basic rifle is NOT an uber rifle, there are no massive winning margins here, no easy, buy this gun to win. The difference for the most part is minor and it is user skill that gives the biggest performance. So as for your question the AUR can be worth it if you want a small improvement before you are skilled to use a mod that would give an equal or better improvement but would take longer to get. answer = yes and no
4) thanks, didnt know that my self.
5) meta level refers to the items level, a meta level 10 item is better than meta level 1, honestly I'm still trying to work this out myself so if someone with some eve experience could come explain this id much appreciate it.
6) most likely yes to all of these, how long it will take for use to get them I don't know.
7) you can only reload while stationary OR walking, IF mid reload you START to run, your reload is CANCELLED. In short, no reloading while running. makes sense to me but I would not be surprised if at some point a skill is introduced that would allow you to reload while running.
8) just you I'm afraid, they take some time getting used to, the throwing arc etc, and the fact that you can cook the nads means fuse time is only as long as you want it to be. i like them, nice controls but I'm still learning the throwing arc myself, closed beta guys are using them to great effect.
Anyway glad to hear your enjoying the game and hopefully ill see you on again, if I do ill send you a squad invite.

Thanks for the awesome replies(Except the first guy ). Helped me out a lot, also glad a lot of these features will eventually be coming around
I'm used to the way grenades work, I just think they could be a little better. I'll follow Bucktooth's advice, level up my grenade skill and try out some flux grenades.
Bird, you're like my personal wikipedia for all things Dust, thanks for helping out a noob like me !

Taux465 wrote:You're wrong and pretty much every point there... Rather than being useless and telling him he's wrong, why don't you provide some useful feedback for him on his second day of playing so he can better understand the game?
Heavies are tanks. If you're using an assault rifle, shoot him to see if he's a weak/new one first. If not, just turn and find someone else to kill. Otherwise, laser rifles work best from what I've seen.
If you mean scopes on assault rifles, I posted a thread somewhere yesterday asking to check if they're in-game. They used to be but people asked for ironsight so people got ironsight. Hopefully, they'll be added as weapon mods in the future.
AUR items usually have a higher meta level: check, and if interested, purchase some. Though, keep in mind, it's not [i]always[i] worth it, unless you're sure of what you're doing and what you need. Skill boosters are handy, there are active and passive ones. In addition to these, there seems to be placements for other AUR items, that are not in game but can be used via the augmentation screen - when they're added. But who knows.
I just this moment posted on some dude's thread explaining meta levels and how they work in EVE, suggesting they more than likely work the same way here in Dust, possibly with little differences here and there. You should still read it if you're unsure. While reading it, have a laugh at the inevitable know-it-alls who come along and act like I'm dumb and have it all wrong with the posts below. It always happens. Use this link to view the post.
With question six, I can't really provide a useful answer so I'll skip.
With questions seven and eight, I think you should hold out on that train of thought for the moment. There are skills to increase these attributes (reload time, blast radius, able to carry more ammo at once etc), like proficiency and specialisation skills. You will come across them eventually and they will help a lot. But more importantly, level the skills you're using now to five and you'll see a difference. Give it some time though. |

Regarding meta level...
There is confusion / discussion within the EVE community about what meta level means too. You can check out this, this and this for a sample.
The best over all answer I have is that an item's meta level is an indication of it's product generation or product line. Think of an IPhone 5 vs and IPhone IV. There are some things you might like about the V, in some ways you might like the features of the IV better. To look at it another way, compare the IPhone to Android phones. The manufacturers might come up with the next generation Android device and focus on a fancy camera -- they call it , say, Android Phone 5, but it doesn't really compare to the IPhone 5 unless you really care about that camera. The Android Phone 6 might have an even better camera, but the other things about could still be just average.
Historically in EVE, as the developers responded to the community and added new ideas of their own, they seem to have labeled later items with higher meta levels than earlier devices. It looks like DUST 514 developers have adopted a similar pattern. While CCP is fond of "hidden" or undocumented aspects of items, as far as I know higher meta level does not simply mean "better" in a simple way.
TL:DR Higher meta level means different than the base model, possibly better / specialized in some respects but also with the potential for drawbacks / the-same-specifications in others. |

Even though your questions have already been addressed, I feel like adding my own point of view aswell(because why not?)
1. There's four things that are heavies' greatest enemies, range, agility, cleverness and teamwork. You either back off far enough that his HMG becomes useless, dash about, use cover and flank behind him to kill that fatty before he can even make a sound, lure the heavy into an ambush or a trap or get a few guys to shoot at him once. Personally, I run behind heavies and blast them in the head with my shotgun.
2. There are no attachments in the game aside some scopes on certain assault rifle variants. They said that it will be coming SoonTM
3. Blueprints. Buying a full militia blueprint set for a suit makes it perfect for cutting your losses during bad matches or just farm some ISK. Also, the higher end skills cost a ton of SP, even small booster bonuses matter significantly.
4. I am aware of that, it is an awesome thing.
5. There's a lot of speculation about it, but the best answer is given by the person above me(thanks S Park Finner!)
6. Different suit types vary in color, but you can not customize them any other way.
7. Reloading only works if you are stationary or walking. Running cancels the reload, so be mindful of that.
8. They are great for clearing null cannons from remote explosives, plus you just have to learn to anticipate it's trajectory and they'll become great weapons for taking out enemies in hiding spots. |

I don't really mind the grenades at all, just make sure u bake them for a couple seconds at atleast 375 degrees!
Thank you for giving me a way to change my toon without having to quit the game!
I agree you should be able to sprint and reload at the same time (Battlefield has truly spoiled me on that one) |

I don't think this was answered already but the boosters are useful. Not only do you earn SP faster but they also raise the cap by the same amount:

Thanks for the additional answers guys, I like reading so the more info the better
As for the reloading issue, I understand that attempting to run while in the reload animation is going to cancel the reload. The issue I'm trying to get across is this...
I just emptied my clip into somebody, I find some cover and reload I without a doubt see my character actually insert a new magazine into her gun and swings her weapon back, ready to go I run out ready to shoot more enemies Turns out that I never actually completed the reload and I suffer a fail blog like death as I desperately try to reload my gun again.
This is the problem I'm trying to address, at that point in the reload animation your magazine should be full and restocked. As it is now you actually have to wait a good second before the reload actually registers as finished. No other FPS has this kind of deceiving issue and I highly doubt that the developers meant for it to be like this. |

As a eve player the mods have a meta level 1 to 5, the faction mods depending on which Faction or Pirate group,Serpentis, Angels etc have a high meta level than 5, I think up to 10, but dont hold me to it.
It means as you say meta level 5 mods are better than 1, but if your skill level is say level 3 for that mod but the guy shooting at you has a lower meta level mods but skills to level 5 it will be better than yours with a higher meta level.
The most important skills in eve depending which route you go are your core skills, shields, armor, power grid, Capacitor etc, I should think that Dust will be the same. Skills are very important, your level been the difference of living or dieing, but having said that traing combat skills plus learning tricks are just as important too, in eve as well.
All I can say is haveing the best mod, gun suit or what ever if Dust is the same as eve will be useless with poor skill levels, but not all skills have to be level 5.
I have palyed eve for 3plus years, but not Dust as yet.
Hope this helps, plus makes sense
