In a typical console beta, the disk is already on its way to the store and they are just letting you play a week early.
This is not the case with Dust 514 as the 'expected launch' deployment isn't until summer 2013 and from perspective of eve players, would not be near half done.
Also there will never be a Dust 514-2, this game will build up and expand. Instead of copy pasting last year's edition like call of duty 14 will, Dust 514 paint over and add onto as it gets bigger and better. Every six months you will be blessed with free mandatory Expansions. Years from now dust 514 will be the same title but a changed monster with your progress still saved, no need to unlock AK-47 for the 20x time.
So what major feature are we lacking for launch build?
Increased squad sized, better graphics, phsyics, and sound, bug fixes, improved tutorials, refined UI, larger battles, improved map generation a few guns and suits and maybe a paint bucket just to start.
For the largest feature missing, Faction Warfare and a reward system for it which may take 1-3 builds to get it right.
Of course every gamer's favorite Optimization (game loads faster, and client side lag reduced severely.)
What about After the launch? Its nowhere near close to stopping there.
Co-OP PVEDrone infestions are just a start, one day you may have to fight off pirates, Sansha, and even other empire forces.
New Planet typesSuch as gas, oceanic, ice, storm, plasma, magma, barren worlds
Custom AvatarsFirst the face then the body for hanging out in your quaters and show off that swag
Corporation RefinementTaxes, War, Internal Contracts, Roles, Medals, Job positions, War Room
AlliancesCreating a bond with other corps to rally to a much larger cause, get good enough and even design a custom logo for yourselves.
Better Salvage SystemHopefully include items your side did destroy during the fight.
MarketTo sell those salvaged items, or ones you produce
Battlefield ShapingWar not going your way? Deploy CRUs, Bunkers, Turrets and Depots, Move your MCC into firing position and hammer away at the enemy on the ground instead.
New Game typesAnything is possible, capture the core, or invasion, even escort, maybe even getting hired to protect eve online avatars while they go **** off some ancient star station.
Arena ModeWant to run tournaments? races even and have people bet on the outcome? here you go, may include more classic game types like deathmatch, king of the hill, and CTF and whatever rules you like like militia gear only.
ExplorationGo find some hidden chance of resources to build more powerful weapons and the sorts while braving the unknown.
IndustryLitterally Build your army, manfuacture tanks, guns and ammo from the raw resources your conquest has showered you with. Put those materials to good use.
ScienceRefine the art of war and the tools they're fought with, gain access to sophicated weaponry and build them.
ConquestClaim the land in your name, not for an npc but yours, and hold onto it for dear life because you may not be the only one who wants a peice of that action.
Empire buildingDevelop the land you claim, take entire planets, build space elevators to help eve pilots coordinate with your efforts.
Universe ShapingMaking planets dangerous to approach, effecting eve online colony efforts, and redawing border lines are just a start. Leave a pernament mark of your history in the universe. May people tell stories of your mercenary outfit for years to come.
Let the Isk flow With Eve online and Dust 514, get hired by eve online pilots to take planets, or even better hire your own pilots to bombard your enemies into the ground. Sell starships to pilots, buy tanks from them, rob thier entire hanger bay and get away being a proud owner of an an entire galactic military's assests
More vehiclesFrom the walking bulwark mtac, sturdy apcs, fast fighters and the MCC itself, we may even get special vehicles for other planets such as naval battleships on oceanic planets, or submarines and naval carriers.
More guns!Weapons from normal to exotic such as the Light machine gun, trench gun, anti-material rifile, drone launcher, Autocannon Turrets.
Weapon CustomizationPut together the perfect weapon, choose your scope, ammo, parts and paint job even.
More modules!Chaff to throw locked missiles off, Sensor Jammers to blind enemey sensors, Energy Vampires to drain capacitor and stamina from targets, EMP mines to disable high tech equipment, Haze Grenades to provide visual cover, Rigs to modify slots weight allowing lighter suits to carry heavier weapons, command links to improve squad performance, Target painters to make it easier to damage a target and lock onto, the list goes on.
Racial symmetry Every race will represents their ideas of war from amarrian tanks, to minmatar scouts suits, or a gallente sniper rifle or a caldari pistol. Each race will by then feel unique, specialized and very charactered. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of those empires, and have even more fun customizing between all of them.
And best part is, its all going to be free to access.
So enjoy the preview, the game is far from done just you all will get a head start and Dust 514 has grand plans for the next 10 years, and this is the current preview we been shown so far, who knows what they will do after getting this done in the next year or two.
Build your own base? Build your own maps for arena? Free exploration zones? Who honestly knows? Eve Online started with very little idea where it would be today but slowly and surely it has arrived to that point. |

I'm fairly conscious about the fact that this game is far from being complete. I've been in many many other betas before on PC so I got the gist of it, but yes, we need feedback from all the newer influx of open beta players (which includes me haha) so this game can have an excellent launch in the future. |

Iron Wolf Saber: +1 for a valuable merc public service announcement.
New meat: We are only playing the bare bones of the game atm - not kidding - and some of the bones are missing. CCP(the developers) have not even started giving us the cool things they're excited about yet because the focus is on getting the basics right, as it should be. For a cross-platform game real-time embedded into the New Eden universe running on a single-shard server the basics can be fairly involved.
Just about everything you see is in a good-enough-for beta-testing state atm: sounds, textures, maps, game modes, gear, suits, vehicles, communication tools, corp tools, etc. The list goes on.
The game will change almost beyond recognition in the months to come. Every new build(on about 6 week intervals) brings major changes and improvements. Sometimes things get broken, but don't freak, that's why we're here: to test and give CCP the feedback they need.
We're the scouts and the rangers. And every indication, for peeps who have long experience dealing with CCP's strengths and weaknesses, is that what lies over the horizon will be absolutely mind-blowing. |

Yes, several promininent players explained it to Dust 514 devs that launching without corps was beyond unacceptable and would have killed the game, the devs thought about it and fully agreed. Which is why the release date for corps and launch date swapped places. Sorry about that. |

The difference between the fanfest build and chromosome is phenomenal, for newer players however, they don't have that kind of comparison. It's the same with EVE, it looks completely different to when it first launched. Hopefully the new build out soon will be a nice improvement, with lots of optimisation. |

Here's the article with our valiant Laurino: http://www.shacknews.com/article/77489/dust-514-moves-to-open-beta-kicking-off-ten-year
Despite the doubts and nay-sayers, I have complete confidence that CCP is quite on the ball about this one...Wouldn't really worry yourselves about this one folks. There is most definitely a 10-year plan and a very real response in place for merging Dust 514 from ps3 to ps4. All your stuffs is going to be just fine and even more so, expect the game to get it's biggest graphical update right around that merge as well (although I personally think the game is beautiful now). |

if people don't like it, they don't play it. why should they conform to die like the rest, they have no commitment to you or anyone else. the game isn't fun, by a long shot. unless you run with a dedicated team you might as well call it quits. an FPS that lacks any of the basic functions of an FPS, that will go over real well. |

RTS mode is slated for 2014 conquest mode and requires a new suit to be able to sit in an mcc, sorry to break your bubble but the support for that or need isnt there yet, no reason to be bringing mccs into faction warfare, npcs provide and control those. In conquest however bringing an mcc may be nessecary to keep the hostiles MCC occupied shooting you instead of the ground forces. |

updated Op a bit.
I dont get some people saying FPS wise its incomplete.
We have the right amount of base classes and we have the right amount of weapon classes and vehicle classes.
Soldier Classes Light Recon Medium Attack Support/Medic/Engineer Heavy Attack Squad Leader (missing but planned, noted no other game really has this) Pilot (missing but planned, also noted no other game really has this either) Battlefield Commander (missing but planned much later, absolutely no game has this)
Weapon Classes Commando weapons Sniper Weapons Marksman Weapons Stormtrooper Weapons Shocktrooper Weapons Demolition Weapons Medic Tools Engineer's Tools Scout Weapons and Tools Assault Weapons Sabatour Weapons AV Weapons Supression Weapons Support Weapons CQC Weapons Special Ops Weapons (missing)
Vehicles are the only real deparment missing quite a few things Light transport and attack Meidum transport (missing) Heavy Attack Flying Transport Air to Ground (missing) Air to Air (missing) Command Vehicle (present but uncontrollable)
Game modes Domination Reverse Deathmatch.
Maps 4 ish, normal for a beta but like 1/3-1/4th of most games default maps. |

If I remember it was actually pretty huge. I believe Chribba was fooling around with CREST for his Dust killboards/database and people were looking at several hundred thousand. But that's a pretty wild guess. (and 3rd-hand information)
All the same, I'm sure we'll be finding out around Fanfest, so drop your isk and grab your inertia stabilizers. It's going to be one hell of a ride to summer |

To be REALLY honest CCP never release anything that isn't semi-broken and doesnt require years to maybe fix.
Like how are those promised POS changes coming?
The point is you have to sometimes measure things on what is delivered, not what is promised. |

+1 My underlineing. Measuring against pre-defined goals allows one to avoid drowning in their own bullpoop.
Agreed. To be fair to CCP, tho, at this point their primary problem re: EVE development is that the devs are hamstrung by the legacy code. The physics/celestial code is the core beast, which is apparently has the rest of the code completely ententacled.
The hangar/inventory work they've done lately has been motivated largely by the need to address how EVE handles hangars and cargoholds because they needed to fix that before they could have a hope of succeeding with a POS revamp.
So, imho, they are marching towards the goal, but the path is a rocky one.
But the good news is that its pretty obvious that the time, money, painful lessons and valuable experience that EVE has given our devs is being applied in an intelligent way to the development of DUST.
