Missile turrets as they are resemble more of a dumb fire rocket launcher.
MISSILES -guided and almost always hit there target -area denial weapon
current missiles (rpg launcher) -90 degree cone of where they would possibly hit -un-guided -affects a small area 2.5 meters with 104 splash (prototype rocket launchers)
to fix the current problems with rocket launchers to make them more like missile launchers there needs to be a few things done to them.
-make them guided and keep everything the way it is except for the fact you can lock-onto your target and hit with precision effectively making a rocket a missile
-increase the splash radios and damage to make them worth using if not you might as well remove them
-fully automatic missile launcher with a 10 round per minute fire rate and an over heat/ reload with increased splash radios and damage

No.
But I like the idea of vehicles having "lock on" weapons. |

Terms evolve, and in the context of modern warfare the convention is:
Rocket: A dumb fire rocket propelled munition with an explosive warhead. Missile: A guided rocket propelled munition with an explosive warhead.
You won't find any army manuals describing a missile as a rock thrown with the aid of a sling. |

And Dust is set 20,000 years in the future. Maybe terms have evolved again. |

We have guided missiles in the form of Swarm Launchers, so I see no reason why we shouldn't have vehicle mounted variations. If implemented this way, the function of the current launchers could be replaced with Artillery and Mass Driver turrets (Minmatar weapon systems).
However, adding more guided weapons MUST coincide with the introduction of countermeasures such as flare/chaff and active missile jammer modules. |

Using your logic we can describe your pistol as a missile if you throw it at a red dot. An overly broad definition is a useless definition. |

I saw a video by CCP not to long ago where the Large Missle Turret locked on, it was the same build when you carried 2 nova knives so it was recent. |

Also one of the missle small turets says "dumb missles" rockets pretty much so maybe they intend some to be rockets and others to be missles. |

lock on weapons take skill out of the game, we already have lol swarm launchers |

it's the future not world war 1, we have the biotechnology to guide a bloody missile to it's target.
A large proto missile turret does 104 splash with a 2.5 meter radios and a 90 degree cone of there these four "missiles" could possibly go, unless they fly in a pinpoint line from sabo to target then they are rockets not missiles.
Ever skill into missile turrets? I have after the nerf it was literally like lobbing pillows at red dots, You could chase a missile tank away with a mass driver or an assault rifle, if i pay 450,000 for a missile launcher i expect it to kill everything that gets in my way, not stand there and laugh while the missiles fly by the red dot. |

Missile Turrets got nerfed severely they do need to be looked at again, but i'd hate to see them return to their previous level of pwnage, especially with many tankers having a perverse desire to sit up on hills and spam at infantry. |

The hav is described as able to fill aa role, a lock-on missile that can only target a locked vehicle and useless vs infantry could be a viable option. It would need to rely on small turret gunner for anti-infantry defense. Damage abvout like swarm but longer range to lock on, similar to rail vs forge.
In New Eden, a missile is a long range lower damage weapon and a rocket is a short range faster rate of fire. Both are guided in EvE, but missiles have better guidance in background.
In real life guided missile don't always hit. For example, Aim-9 sidewinder missiles hit about 15% of time in 1960's, improved to around 60% in late 1980's. This is part of why Russian fighters often fired missiles in pairs, 60% each with 2 missiles is 84% chance of at least one hit. |

Terms have evolved. Look to the lore, and you see that in the EVE universe rockets are unguided, high payload, fast firing weapons, while missiles are just that, guided missiles with longer range, more accuracy, but lower damage.
