DUST Search - not really impressed so far

It's not COD in space. The vision and design of this game are what you should read up on. It's not intended to start and stop when you log on and off, with the only persistence being K/DR. Read and I'm sure the scope and potential will excite you. You're going to be put through the ringer for a while (time frame depends on dedication) until you start making meaningful progress, but don't give up and once you emerge from the crucible a stronger player I'm sure you will find the game very enjoyable.

Something that helped me notice someone shooting you is to turn on your controller shaker thing. I usually have I turned off for fps games but it needs to be on for this game, cause you are right it is hard to tell when you are getting shot without it.

Something that helped me notice someone shooting you is to turn on your controller shaker thing. I usually have I turned off for fps games but it needs to be on for this game, cause you are right it is hard to tell when you are getting shot without it. thank's i'm gonna try that out

Having been in closed beta for almost a year I can say its come a long long way. The next few builds really need to be good and add the required content to make this a what it can be. It does take a while to get a hang of dust and sniping isn't the best starter either. CCP and specifically Cmdr Wang wants feed back from open beta testers (he hates us already) If you have more to say i would jsut give specifc likes/dislikes. I promiose only like 70% of the bitter dust vets will flame you

I was walkin' round, noticed red flashing on my screen like I was getting hit - but I saw no damage on my armor so assume it's a friendly. Then I die by a sniper shot instantly. I'm a heavy - no sniper can OHK me. Seems to only happen to sniper fire though.

Trust me, invest some time into it and become involved in all the customization that this game has to offer. Maybe take a couple days off, spend your accumulated SP on something interesting and give it another shot. I get the feeling that this game has a little more of a 'mature' taste than other more popular shooters.

There are other features and additions coming to the game that helps you enjoy the game more. Dust isn't the best shooter, as far as gameplay, at first glance but it offers much more than other shooters. And that's what gets you hooked. Stick around for more, group with some experienced players and let them give you the scoop. Side note: I've been asking for something that points you in the direction of who killed you (like MAG and not killcam).

Also give feedback, they have been changing a lot and it's going to change a lot more. Spawning and dying to seemingly nothing in ambush really gives new players a bad taste. At least imo. Also so you know this game is going to get a lot of updates. Gaint robot mechs, 8 man tanks, lava planets, fighter jets. I don't think it's quite at the point I would recommend it to just anyone, but even if you don't stick with it during beta, come back, your passive sp won't stop even if you take a 4-6 month break.

What does COD in space have to do with wanting a working damage indicator?

You will find a lot of MAG vets in here as well as those that hate them.

Never fear, though, in this game you can go as deep, or as broad, as you want in your skills training - depending if you want to be a specialist in one area (like a dedicated tanker, logi, a nova knifing amrtial artist type scout ninja, or whatever) or be versatile in several areas. There are beta vets here who have trained as specialists in different areas, and they can give you advice on what to train and save for, depending on what you want to try out.
