Too many threads on SP - each one has the same idea that is just BRILLIANT imo.
All SP un-earned from 1 day is pushed into day 2 - where it'll continue to accumulate to the next days cap until a certain day of the week is hit - where then it will reset.
It balances out almost every complaint of hardcore vs casual. Hell - I'm sure even hardcores could get behind this idea.
I didn't see any thread discussing this one idea as a solution rather then SP in general - so I'm putting it forth for discussion to see if there's a side of this idea I don't see. |

I like it, it would give those of us who don't have a lot of free time during the week a chance to catch up on the weekends. You can still " cap out" daily if you choose or if you haven't got time, you can come back at a later date to finish. Some people may argue what you are proposing is basically the same way it was, but it forces you come back at least a few times a week instead of capping out by day one or two. |

I think it would be a task and half to keep track of everybodys SP in that way. Filtering out non-players, finding out who played what and when. Good idea, but hard work for the Dev's. Then again what do I know... I just shoot people and die a lot.... |

Yeah, I proposed this exact idea a while back. SP rollover from each day until a defined day of the week, in which it will be reset. Rinse and repeat.
It's a pretty great idea and would appease both sides of the party. |

Perfect solution for both HC and casual gamers, and give noobs a fighting chance since it can be frustrating before you figure out your personal play style and skill set.
Rumored that CCP has plans for it, but that's all it is at the moment, forget where I saw this post but it was in forums earlier today. |

It does mean that someone who can only play at the beginning of the reset gets less sp than someone who plays later on. An all-time accumulating cap with diminishing returns seems the only viable option to me. |

Not sure about the 'if you play' part. Cause what exactly does that mean for the SP that rolled over from say, 3 days worth? Is it all reset too even if you only play one match that night? Or does it only reset the ~27k from the daily allotment and the rest that rolled over, will continue to roll over?
IMO that is a bit too convoluted. I think whether you play or not, any unearned SP should rollover to the next day until the weekly reset. |

It wouldn't matter if somebody played from the beginning or got all the SP at the end, the numbers would be identical. Why would you think they would be different?
Think about it, lets say you played every day and reached the cap of 27k (rounded from 27.2k to make example easier).
Monday - 27k Tuesday - 27k Wednesday - 27k Thursday - 27k Friday - 27k Saturday - 27k Sunday 27k ----------------------Total = 189k
Now lets say you only play one day, and it's the last day before the reset, Sunday. So you grind all day long and at the end, reach the rolled over SP from 6 days plus the 7th days cap. Which would be 189k SP.
No difference. |

Speaking of experiences i've had as a map maker in other games - it's a simple code to make an addition to the next days earnings. I'm not totally sure if my map making experiences actually hold any value as this is actual programming - but the idea is really quiet simple and the same. |

Still doesnt address the issue for new players coming in say 2, 4, 6 or 12 months after launch.
But o/w yes this a great system for the current playerbase and the time differences that we can put into this game. But a weekly hardcap with no diminishing returns would do the exact same thing without having to have any rollover or additional tracking or calculations server side.
For instance take the 189K Active that someone said before and if its is weekly hardcap then a person who plays on sunday before the reset can grind all day and hit it.
The person who this effects is the person who plays daily and hits their cap in 2-3 days, but they get the benefit of applying all those SP earlier in the week and can then go do other things like FW when available or simply migrate to ambush where their ISK/time played payout is greater.
After all i think the argument that by not gettin SP in the latter half of the week takes away desire to play kinda becomes moot when under the current system ppl hit the cap in the matter of what 1-2 hours. I mean from a psychological point of view what does it do seeing 75 SP a match after you hit the cap and then next day oooh i got 14K SP this match, really not that big a deal if i cant spend that SP on the character.
Anyway i digress yes i like this idea and yes it would work but it would be simpler to institute what i suggest because it allows for the same exact result but with no restriction on how quickly you can hit the cap on week to week basis. and as stated before none of these systems address the main issue i had with the cap, that being the ability of new players to "catch" up in either system without a "global rollover."
Edit-Obviously a person using a skill booster can earn the 40,200 x 7 if they use the booster, here however comes the rub, if you do the daily rollover how much rollsover will a person be able to bank the active booster portion because ppl would likely bank rollover in 3 day chunks and then use a 3day. Obviously a good way to mitigate that would be to allow the active booster SP to rollover if the person has a booster active on their character, so if say person has a 3day booster than only those 3 days would rollover and they would have access to that SP even without the booster until the reset.
More succinctly if a person buys a 1,3,7 day booster the days in which they didnt play and rollover applies then that extra SP would rollover and they could earn that bonus SP even if the booster expires as long as the weeks reset hasnt passed but they could not earn it at the boosted rate unless they have a booster on. |

I think you missed what I was talking about.
Here is an example. Lets say I do not play at all for 3 days (from the start of the week). Ok, so that now means on the 4th day, I will have all the past days SP rolled over plus the 4th days cap. Each day nets 27k, so 4 days worth would be 108k cap total on the 4th day.
Now lets say on that 4th day I only play a few matches and unexpectedly have to stop playing for whatever reason. With your system you are suggesting all the previous rollover, that wasn't earned, be forfeited during that days reset. Which would mean on the 5th day I would only have 27k in my SP 'pool'.
Sorry, but no. The very simple idea presented by the OP is flawless.

Cerebral made a point in another thread in saying that a person with 1 year of SP built up vs a guy with 2 months would be on the same level - we all have caps on our skills.
I'd say this discussion touches more on giving people the ability and knowledge that they could catch up without worrying if there lives would destroy any opportunity they have here. An SP system people can get behind does much more then simply fix our problems - it gives people faith. |

Just have it similat to that example, but allow continous 7-day roll over. So that there isn't a fixed SP cap reset day.
Example1:
total 7-day SP cap pool= 0
Monday - 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Tuesday - 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Wednesday - 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Thursday - 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Friday - 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Saturday - 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Sunday 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0
Monday - 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Tuesday - 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Wednesday - 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0
Example 2:
total 7-day SP cap pool= 0
Monday - 10k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 17k Tuesday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 44k Wednesday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 71k Thursday - 70k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 28k Friday - 55k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Saturday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 27 Sunday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 54k
Monday - 81k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Tuesday - 27k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0 Wednesday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 27k
Example 3:
Monday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 27k Tuesday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 54k Wednesday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 81k Thursday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 108k Friday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 135k Saturday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 162k Sunday 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 189k
Monday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 189k Tuesday - 0 -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 189k Wednesday - 216k -- total 7-day SP cap pool= 0
This model has been suggested before in these forums.
edit:
Also one possible way that this could be enhaced would be to have AUR bought item that you could plug into your clone to have extended SP accrual pool and that item would be one time per buy use only. Once activated, item would be consumed. And by having it a in-game item would also mean that it would be buyable/sellable in secondary marcetplace for ISK.
You have 2week holiday coming IRL that you know tht you won't be able to play DUST. You would grind and hit your 7-day SP accrual cap, so that accrual pool is now 0 SP. Eccentiaaly you now can have 7days off of DUST, without 'loosing' potential SP.
- Lets say you buy 1x '7-day SP pool accrual extension licence' that costs X AUR.
- You plug it in to your clone and activate it.
- Now you have that initial 7-day pool + this bought 7-day extension pool totalling 14-days.
- After that 14-day holiday, you come back to DUST and have 14-day worth of SP to grind through.
Caveats to this: There should be a limit on how many extensions can be used back-to-back, because without it, there would be a 'incactive' toons sitting on these extenders just to accumulate SP.
edit 2: (Added here from my post below) And for the argument of what about those players that come 6 moths later or 1 year later to game?
My opinion is though luck. And more to the point is this misconstruded opinion that one needs to 'catch up' in SP to the max levels to be competetive.
No they don't.
All you need is to have certain ammount of SP to level those critical skills that give +X% dmg, +XHP and weapon of choice proficiencie skill. These skills are 'core skills'. After one has trained these up, it's all about ones versatility and adaptability to different situations in battlefield.
In other words, low SP charachters compete with spceialication. High SP charachters have versatility advantage in battle, but not advantage of superior gear. (Once one has leveled up those 'core skills') |
