Seriously.
I get people telling me a new Dust build just came out that's supposed to smooth out the gameplay and fix the lag.
Wow! Really? Maybe this game will be fun to play after all! I open up Dust 514 for the first time in months and download the patch. This game has had several builds to get things fixed.
Upon opening my dropsuit selection the game begins stuttering. I feel like I'm running Crysis on a Super Nintendo as I attempt to perform the simple task of editing my loadouts, a feeling I've had since I was invited to this beta half a year ago, multiple builds ago. Hell even before logging into the game the flyby over the spaceship at the character selection screen was skipping frames every 5 seconds.
Of course after stuttering through the menus I already knew what to expect. The game plays no differently. Micro-freezes are a regular occurrence and the framerate is never stable as the outdated PS3 hardware struggles to load the ultra-HD industry standard 16x16 textures of Dust 514 that you've become so accustomed to. I get hit from 2 miles away by an invisible sniper hiding in the hills in the outskirts of the map. I hide behind a supply depot and, **** you not, wait about 10 seconds for my shields to finally recharge, before coming out only to get shot at by another sniper hiding in the most remote regions of the map. I'm having so much fun already. I love getting shot by invisible people who are invulnerable to taking damage (did I mention that the max range of assault rifles is about 3 meters?) then waiting half a minute just for my shields to recharge again!
Capturing objectives is still a slow and tedious process. The second a heavy spawns you know you are screwed because the ridiculous rate of fire on their guns drop you about 14 times faster than you can drop them (giving the most armored enemies access to the most powerful weapons is a great idea!). You can't see anything other than a pixelated hologram in your face and can only hope that nobody spawns behind you as you wait about 4 minutes to capture an objective standing out in the open vulnerable to fire from every direction.
Gunplay sucks. The large open maps combined with the lowish amount of players makes finding a fair fight difficult. Players have so much health that it takes about 2 hours to kill somebody. The animations are awkward and slow and you feel like an old man running through jello. You sprint at turtle-speed and a couple bunny hops are enough to completely drain your stamina. The maps are a barren wasteland, not only making the snipers more annoying but turning CQC gunfights into a spray-n-pray tango between two players until whoever happens to be using the better gun finally gets the kill. Even when you do manage to find decent gunfight with a similarly equipped opponent in an area that actually has some well-placed cover and are at the most optimal distance for your weapons, you're probably gonna end up getting shot at by some invisible sniper up in the hills.
These are just a few examples of whats wrong with this game. So disappointing. I actually prefer playing Call of Duty over this. Hey, it takes no skill but it's still fun, way more exciting than this game can hope to be. Dust maybe takes a little skill (little, VERY little skill, and I'm being generous), but it's not fun. It's not fun at all. |

I played for several hours last night and the games I was in were amazingly smooth. It's a HUGE improvement over the last build in terms of playability and smoother frame-rate.
Yes, the menus are still stuttery, but what counts for me is the smoother in-game playability. It was a luxury I got only a handful of times in the last build. I just hope it lasts. |

So is this the plan? We're going to attract and keep players by telling them to play more? You know, don't worry about first impressions, don't worry if the game isn't fun. Just play more! You'll find it fun! Eventually!
You guys just got used to the mediocrity of this game. There are few other people who are willing to do this. I was willing to do this during the first build but not anymore. I gave this game more than enough time to get things straight.
If I were a Dust supporter I wouldn't try calling out my experience with this game or skill with shooters. You will only regret this in the long run. |

Whenever I read some one complaining about the textures I am convinced they have no idea what a beta is. When it gets to a 1.0 release and the issue still persists then there is cause for concern. But, since it is build 0.7 people need to do some research on what a beta for games actually means.
The stuttering sounds weird. Haven't experienced any stuttering issues since the update. What are the quarters like? Stuttery? Any of the other menus? |

The quarters don't stutter like the menus but the FPS can still get choppy which is pretty strange. Even in a small closed room the game seems to struggle to hold 30 FPS.
Yes well all realize this is a beta. I'm sure the graphics will be beautiful by the fast approaching public release of this game even after 6 months of little progress.
Just a thought, the lag may have something to do with the size of your contacts list. I know Black Ops 2 has freezing issues on the PS3 version when you're getting constant notifications from the XBM. |

"Used" is a strange term. You seem to think your experiences offer an objective view of the game. Play any multi-player game months after not playing it and you'll, initially, have a crappy experience. Except Call of Duty. But, that's a game where you have infinite lives and hyper laser accuracy.
Check the game out again when it's at 1.0 release. Or when the open beta starts. |

I probably will. I don't expect much improvement if this was supposed to be the big fix-it build before the open beta. I don't think you guys should be too hopeful either if CCP doesn't take feedback outside of these forums into serious consideration. I think the positive energy on these forums is a bit misleading. |

The game doesn't run smooth, it runs better, but certainly not smooth. You honestly hit the nail on the head mojo, people that have kept habitually playing this game are blind to the poor programming bc they don't know any better at this point
Don't try to argue with the 24/7 players bc they've invested enough real cash and time to be dominant on the battlefield with little to know effort. They can't see past their own KDR to realize this game is still a huge cluster After years of CCP effort. |

Well you get more out the game the more you put into it. I sucked hardcore first time I played and it wasn't totally to blame on the lag of the build I started playin on. Now I'm a pretty descent sniper who thoroughly enjoys when you hide behind a rock and decide its a good idea to run the same direction I sniped you from originally. If you'd take time to play more and better your character and know where the sniper nests are on each map, I'd kindly let you sneak up on me and shoot me straight to hell for having laid you out 5x. Like any game, playing makes you better. This game requires active playing to rack up SP to make your merc godly by strengthening up a skillset.
I do like this current build as it has far less lags as the last build. I'd get one mini-lag at the time of spawning but until I got wasted I didn't get much lag as the first build. And I like the the adjustment of the weight of my character. The movements feel more smooth and I know I will prolly have to re-adjust to this as I played quite a bit of the old build. So give the game more of your time and find better rocks to hide behind or just leave the game alone and move on. |

Snipers were poorly implemented into this game.
This build may lag less than the last one but that's really not saying much. This game still lags and it lags hard (and as someone else has stated elsewhere, the slow and awkward animations and player movement may be contributing to this perceived lag). |

Been here a long time but the fansboys are getting more blind by the build, don't even see templar two bother trying post about the poor advances and flaws any more even he gave up.
I just pop on to state the obvious from time to time, dust will have a small player base after the initial newness wears off and will suit some but even that will become stale when new players realise they have to live this game to be able to compete. |

so.. i've been playing halo 4 lately, and something amazing happened... it ran.
as in, i turned on the console, and played the game. at whatever frames per second it runs at.. all the time. (i dunno what that number is, but it didn't noticeably dip) it didn't crash or freeze either. it was magical.
after playing so much dust, and mag before that, i had forgotten why i preferred consoles to PCs in the first place. i actually like it when my games just RUN. i don't even need to check the system requirements. big ole blue PS3, yah i'm pretty sure my ps3 is compatible with ps3 games.. not like that ******* Nvidea card in my laptop! ><
moejoe is a douche, but anybody who thinks a ton of framerate lag, disconnects, and freezing is a non-issue is insane. even if we're willing to tough it out most people are NOT, and who wants to play a dead game?
it's a great way to squander a great idea, which is why it's so frustrating for many of us; we really do believe in what CCP is trying to do here. i WANT this game. is it so bad that i want it to be GOOD?

You really just complained about dying a lot and the already known low framerate. The game will go through countless updates though so just wait till they hit the sweet spot your looking for.
Tips for your complaints.
Don't take an objective without backup if the enemy knows you're their. I would suggest hiding and waiting for squad members, or the occasional blueberry. Sometimes being overconfident can be a good thing though.
Save your grenades for heavies. If a heavy get's too close to effectively use a grenade than you are just a victim of the rock paper scissors aspect of the game.
If your framerate gets too low just reset, or take a break.
If your being sniped and you manage to find cover as small as a supply depot call in a free lav. Sniper will be pissed when he see's the RVA and will probably give up after taking one shot at the back of your carseat.
These tips probably aren't the best, but there the first things that come to mind in relation to your issues.

Yes, the menus are still stuttery, but what counts for me is the smoother in-game playability. It was a luxury I got only a handful of times in the last build. I just hope it lasts.
I find it funny that no one seems to remember that NONE of these stability issues were present in the previous build.

This is build was mostly for performance. And performance has improved a lot. You yourself said you stopped playing for a period of time. Those changes will be less noticeable to you. After playing the game the day before the patch there are enormous performance gains. There always will be. But, since this is release 0.7 I wouldn't except the open beta until 0.9.
It sounds like you don't have much experience with the beta testing period for games. It isn't for everyone. It takes a crap load of patience. Taking feedback outside of the forums is difficult now. Due to the NDA. That will be solved when the game goes into open beta. |

The only thing I can honestly say is the game looks nicer, it's less fun to play than 4 builds ago, with all the bugs and lag that had.
This aint real beta wheres the weekly patches to fix issues we have to wait at least a month, wheres the report function ingame ?
Where's the dev weekly , daily posts saying we want you to test such and such?
Where is our reset button so we can test different builds and not be tied into one? imagine if all just skilled assault how would they know any other suit was ok , see where i'm going
As for pve they need to improve the fps part vastly before even considering that.
Is the game going in the right direction ------- well yes and no things that are good get changed and things the matter stay unresolved as in frame rate and it's been all over the place for a long while amongst other things.
Do I want this game to fail, no but people need to realise negative threads are just as important as the ones that praise |

People really write hate speeches man. That was not constructive at all, rather a garble of uncontrolled anger. With that tone and hate, why do you still play the game (test the beta)? People rant angrily, only to continue to play.
Solutions: Check your internet. If there is a storm outside, the game's going to be super laggy and it's not worth the time/frustration, if you have microwave internet as I do.
There are codebreaker modules/ skills to increase hack time. The slow process makes these skills/modules more lucrative and worth while.
There are also modules and skills to make you sprint/ move faster.
People with better guns deserve the kill.
Also, since you claim to die numerously but claim this game takes no skill, how is that valid? If its so easy, why are you getting tromped? Food for thought.
Well, it by the looks of it, I'd say you've never left the cozy starter fit ever. Not even with modules or guns. Spend some ISK, it's worthless if you don't use it.
Give constructive and formed feedback, not rants that approach very one-sided.
PS: KZ3 rocks the house, I don't know how picky you are, but it's a darn good game. |

Well what can you do besides call out the sniper to your squad which is risky and selfish in most cases. I do this sometimes because not all snipers are god like. It's really hard to counter snipe as well when the enemy already has the steady scope. Also I've only been sniped out of an LAV while in the driver seat once and it was pretty bad-ass because I was gonna crush him. |

Although the original poster wrote for humour/ irony (and maybe just a touch of anger) rather than a straight analysis, I have to agree with many of his points. It's only fair to first acknowledge that there's some pretty nice stuff in this build:
- New vehicle sounds give more of an impression of a high-tech machine
- New artwork assets are very "alien tech", again giving a better immersion in a super-high-tech battlefield.
- Loading times have been much improved - my first game on the new build I saw the "command centre/ ready room" for the first time in many months, and I can call up the player stats list after *every* game, rather than just sitting watching the loading wheel.
- I haven't (yet) seen *any* of the 2-5 second long screen-freezes which have been my constant companion. Great job!
However (yeah, I know - there's always a "but"...) I do have to agree with the original poster on many points.
- HMG seems more overpowered than ever and snipers seem more powerful relative to most other weapons (quite probably due to other weapons being diminished). This further skews the risk/ reward imbalance - as noted by the original poster.
- Now the biggie - although the multi-second screen freezes appear to have gone away, framerate problems are still very much there. They are now a constant low-level issue rather than massive spikes just when something critical happens. Over the past 3 builds I've pretty much been unable to avoid the conclusion that this game needs a SSD to be truly playable. While many players flippantly state "get an SSD", as if it's the logical answer to every game problem, (and I'll add that I'm fast approaching the day I'm no longer willing to put that off), not every player is in a position to do that. All that aside, if an SSD upgrade is necessary to play, then Dust can't really be said to be PS3 compatible. And if many of us upgrade to SSDs, we're radically watering down the feedback CCP gets about how the game plays *on the target platform*. It seems to me that a more logical answer would be for the testers to report a problem so it can be dealt with by the developers, so no more "it's only not working for you because you're playing it on the target platform" comments, eh guys?
Also...
- I'm seeing a massive reintroduction of hit-detection problems. Just a few days ago, emptying an entire SMG magazine into someone 2 metres away would kill pretty much anyone. Now I'm lucky to fully deplete their shields.
- The gameplay balance seems *much* less cerebral. I've played for a day or so since the update, and I appreciate that this is a player factor, but the game balance now seems to reward "run forward spraying bullets" gameplay far more than tactical planning and movement. I'm not yet sure what's caused this apparent shift, but changes in Assault Rifles (iron sights and slower zoomed panning) have certainly incentivised close-in fighting, and I wonder if people will abandon fully-automatic ARs entirely as their effective range (or rather their usable range) drops closer to that where the SMG (not to mention the HMG ) dominates.
- Even with good (passive) scanning skills, I'm routinely surprised by enemies hiding round corner (this includes, on one occasion, three heavies with HMGs plus two assault troopers and a scout with shotgun!) I doubt they were all stealthed...
- For Mouse and Keyboard players, it's no longer possible to scroll through fitting selection using scrollwheel or W and S, so you need to move fingers to the arrow keys.
I can appreciate that people don't react well to angry posts, but (as someone who has been waiting literally years for Dust) I can sympathise with the frustration of seeing it not be all it can be, especially when it's mostly down to a few well-documented problems.

But dust beta dose, it needs everyone, those who like and blindly think it brilliant and those who dislike, just so ccp can get some balance by reading between the lines. All feed back is good be praise or criticism, people need to learn not to take it personal when they read something they don't like written about the game. The fanboys have scared away people that critically look at this game. The only people really left for the opposition are die hards like you and me. Every other sane person that didnt see substantial improvement in fast approaching 1 year of beta have gone right back to bf3 and cod bc they can't deal with the amount of denial the forum crowd has. You have to be crazy to think this game is any where near a public release

I think you should reinstall the beta and do a Database rebuild on your PS3. I have had no errors in this build. Not a single disconnect, no mic errors, no internal errors, nothing. No framerate drops, either. Game plays more smoothly than I've ever seen it before.
tl;dr Sounds like a personal problem to me. |

They used to post regularly but have given up , can't blame them tbh you post anything negative and well you know what to expect. I don't play much anymore, tried the new build today (4 games) and it's just the same as the previous one boreing. Let the fans enjoy it's not worth the effort trying to say any different or point out flaws. How about posting something 'constructive' vs 'negative'. It's often not what you say, but how you say it, that's important. Just a thought. Tried it still get the same response, gtfo, bye, can I haz your stuff, or the ever it's beta. Pretty sure someone would have said the same thing about eve , now look at it . This game is going improve , then improve , then improve some more , that is the great thing about ccp. :-] |

I have recently entered this game after months and possibly a year of hype. I was not particularly disappointed.
I know that the longer you play a game, you more you get it, and I understand that I do not currently get this game nearly as much as most else who play. At first, I felt that the interface was clunky, that the controls were awkward, etcetera. The longer I played the less it felt like that. Just like any other game you are inexperienced with, everything feels awkward. To me, this is especially true with console games and FPSs, and this is a console FPS, so I was feeling incredibly strange.
I think you need to give it some time. Time to get accustomed to it and time for it to progress. It still is a closed beta, as well. Not even an open beta, and it is quite obviously one of the more complex games out there. Especially for an FPS. |

After 3 months I really hate hearing this beta is more complex than any other game because its not. The FPS side of this game is so simplistic to the point you can compare this beta to titles that were made 8 years ago.
below Players on a PC 2005 gun play at the moment the same as 2003 graphics on a PC 2005 Tons of skills at the moment but no Customization
I love the PS3 , but know there are problems and limitations but the way to deal with that is to pick a theme and run with it and that seems to be Dusts biggest problem. This is not a PC where you just add and everyone will upgrade.
There is really nothing out of this world when it comes to the battlefield in Dust and what scares me the most is more of the player base doesn't care about the battlefield. They just want to mine, craft, and sell things on the market. Three quarters of them don't even want to play against other players , just drones. There is never even arguments about FPS games in this forum like normal FPS development forums , just RPG`s |

The combat component of Dust 514 isn't terribly complex, but it's more complex than most FPSes. However, preparing for the battle is far more complex than I've seen in most other FPSes. You cannot deny that. |

Not really the fittings , have been done before. Just not with the RPG spin of having the same item with 20 different names and +1 or -1 stats. At the moment the only thing that is brand new in a FPS is that every time you die you lose all your gear that im not a big fan of. Im willing to compromise on some things but its hard when the graphics are low, the player count is low, the hit points are way to high, the spawning is terrible, the grenade throw is low, gun ranges are messed up, and the game modes are retro old or pve. I want Dust to work and thats why its better to say harsh things now then after launch. I never get that feeling with Dust that ive gotten from tribes 2, bf series, killzone, mag, and old socom. |

Want to put money on it, eve has taken 10 years to be what it is.
And ccp have only produced 1 game in 10 years so it sould be good, and 1 game is not proof that they can make dust work.
Also there are ant number of fps's out there that do the fps part a hell of a lot better than dust' 10 years is a long wait for a game to come of age. |
