CCP recently had this to say https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=432059&
Quote:Dear mercs of the Training Grounds, The DUST 514 team wants you. Are you planning to create a great set of tutorial videos, helpful guides or just anything related to helping out new players get into the game? We would like to hear from you! Email us over at [email protected] if you have plans on doing so, and we will add you to the list of volunteer contacts that plan on improving the fan-made New Player Experience in any shape or form. More details will be available in the later stages of our beta test, and we are looking forward to hearing back from you with the details regarding your plans on this front. Thank you for your cooperation, -DUST 514 Development Team
So I'm looking for Logi's (or those who'd like to support training a new crop of Logi's by participating) to step forward and work with me on developing some materials and ideas we can provide to CCP as a way to enhance the new player experience and help a new generation of Logi's thrive within Dust 514.
If you're interested in participating in some fashion please speak up within this thread.

Thank you all, it's excellent to see so much support of this.
To start us off here is what I propose, we have a new build and we're all going to be learning it. Let's use our posts in this thread to compile those aspects we find most noticeable/key for a Logi to keep track of (I'm sure much of this we've already posted in other threads so links are always good ). Once we have that baseline we can begin to figure out ways to present and transmit this information, and considering the differing ways in which people learn written, video, and in game are all good options which hopefully we can cover.
A couple things I would ask everyone to consider doing
- A small explination of what weapon you use most on your logi suit and why
- Recount your match opening (start with spawn on ground or MCC and explain that first 1-2 minutes of a fresh map, what you do and why you do it)
Logi is very team focused (as I'm certain you all know first hand [=D] so lets figure out some of the strong things a Logi can do to support the team, and then take it a step further by providing context for that set of actions (i.e. rather than "repair your team" something like "drop a hive for the sniper, repair the heavy then move up to support the assault")
Cheers, Cross

Let me begin once more with announcing I am new to DUST 514 and Logistics as well... Although I will state that it is a rewarding job. Everybody can kill by pointing a gun and pulling a trigger, but not everybody can jump into a chaotic situation and aid in their squads survival.
It takes skill to be a good marksman, it takes heart to be a good logibro.
My weapon of choice is a Repair Tool. What it's not a weapon! True. I normally concentrate on my team members and keeping them alive. If the situation is tranquil enough where I can don a weapon, I equip a Mass Driver. It takes some skill to kill with it, but it aids in firing off shots into a group of enemies. Note: Apparently I am the son of a Storm Trooper because I can 't shoot anything to save life. Mass Driver is good for those who lack some accuracy.
During the commencement of a battle, I speak with my comrades in what the overall plan is going to entail. I normally run a suit with Up-Links at first to set up strategic locations for revival unto the battlefield. Afterwards I don my normal suit that comes equipped with Nanonite Injector/ Nano-Hive/ Repair Tool and trail my Squad-mates keeping them alive. If the Up-Links are targeted I jump in with another Up-Link suit and repeat the process.
I know I am not in there to get the best Kill/Death ratio score.
I know I am not there to whine about why I need to "heal" my team.
Being Logibro is a vital role to a squad, some could argue the level or degree of importance, but at least in my opinion, I see the Logibro as the squad member who binds the group together.

Nobody really likes explaining it but....
There are a lot of times when i die and i think "man i should have done this instead". If possible i think we should include those moments so that we can refine our tactics as Logibro's as a whole.
For instance, "I was following a heavy while repairing him when we were assaulted by an enemy Heavy. I kept my repair tool on the Heavy i was following and he died with the enemy heavy surviving with only 10% of his HP left. I should have switched to my weapon and provided support."
Something along those lines. If possible.

I run with Repair & Revival logi 98% of the time.
About weapons... Automatic Assault Rifles are crucial for me, its versatility is a must for someone who has to position himself in favor of his teammates rather than a specific position, such as long range or short range, where you can kill more effectively. With a logi fit such as mine you'll have to accompany your squad at all times, that means through open terrains, where an smg is useless, and at the chaos of the objectives, where a tac. rifle wont do you much good.
The model of logisuits I use are the Type-2/B-series/Vk.1, which means, enhanced movement speed at the cost of equipment slots, which is good for my specific role, Repair & Revival.
That extra speed is very important to me, at the start of a match I'll drop down from the MCC (cause it's neat) and immediately rush to the closest letter, most of the times I'm the first to get there, because my sprint speed is about the same as the one of a scout suit. Once I capture the objective, I back off, and rejoin my squad.
So basically now there are 4 things which I have to be aware of in order to be a successful support player during that match: -Periodically scan through the team mates in the vicinity for anyone in need of a repair; -Look out for downed teammates, both on the radar and on the Needle icon display on the screen; -Red dots; -My squad's movements.
Now obviously I don't mindlessly rush to a downed blue dot right in front of that enemy HAV, the thing about being a logi is to stay alive the longest possible, 'cause if you die you'll need to solo back to your squad, depending if they're nearby to a spawn point or not, not only that but maybe your whole squad will get defeated or pushed back because you weren't there to give them the needed support.
Still on the topic of not getting killed, an important skill to have is to know when it's time to back away from a situation and when to stay and support your squad. Generally, when playing with randoms, if I'm in a situation where the odds are that we'll get outnumbered and outmaneuvered, I'll turn tail and run like I had stolen that dropsuit, when playing with my corp, however, I'm fairly familiar with the member's skill level and, in most cases, I'll stay until the last man drops dead. My point here is, if you are in an unnecessarily risky situation, back away and regroup, don't risk going forward and getting shotgun'd to the face, that's what Assaults and Heavies are for .
As for red dots, I'll readily engage one if he is an immediate threat to me or my team mates but other than that, I won't chase them around or look for flanking routes.
That's all, dunno how useful that info is but I thought I'd let out a few words about my experience. |

I've got two main Logi fits that I use; AR, grenades, injector, nano hive, droplink AR, grenades, injector, nano hive, repair tool.
If I'm starting a game solo, or with a squad I don't know, I tend to start on the ground with the rep fit and make straight for the nearest objective. Either a CRU or a letter. I'll then find a group of blues that seem to know what they're doing and follow them around trying to keep them going.
When we've down on spawn options, I'll pull out the droplink suit and try to position one overlooking an objective in a defensible position. Preferably on hire ground.
I generally play with low end BPO equipment when I don't know my squad, but I've also got a couple of suits with better quality guns and gauged hives and droplinks for the added flexibility. These tend to come out to play when I'm with a squad I think can keep me alive. As far as shooting people goes, I tend to try to soften them up and go for a kill assist rather than taking people on myself
I'm also playing around with other weapons ATM, I've been trying the Laser rifle after someone suggested it, which I think could work with the range it's effective at. |

I've already got you beat there Vyzion.
Also, not surprised at all to see Free Healing as first responder to this. RedBleach as well.
I'm running AR 99.999% of the time but have LR and MD's to toy with and am enjoying the latter when going full support, i.e. sitting behind main assault line and resupplying/repairing, occasionally firing into groups of enemy troops to force them to scatter making them easier to pick off one-by-one for the rest of my team. The LR just requires too much pin-point gun-game accuracy which is something I don't have if you ever see my KDR ranking.
But that's doing a good job. Usually I'm running right up at the front with my assaults and heavies, using enhanced armor and shield loadouts to keep me alive to maintain resupply and repair in the midst of the rare firefight where I'm not firing myself. At least in Ambush, in which I'm absolute garbage.
Playing mostly skirmish I've noted that an almost necessary support role is that of putting down as much fire as your teammates while playing a bit cowardly as well to keep yourself alive and then revive teammates after the chaos cools down a bit. This probably doesn't work so well in ambush where it's just chaos all the time but in a skirmish that extra firepower in a standoff can and is just as important as maintaining team members' armor.
I'm usually first on top of objectives when with a decent team as they often want to maintain a defensive around the objective we hack after the initial offensive surge (assuming enemy has taken it already), but this is fine by me as well as I hack faster than two at this point even without modules which can bump my speed up to the equivalent of 3 hacking the same objective. Once hacked I sit on the objectives with revivals and fire support. And demolitions. Anyone who's met me knows it's what I do. Would never take credit for starting it, but there was certainly no one on Asian servers using RDX as anti-personnel before me, and a whole lot using it in Codex after me.
Its at these times that an uplink becomes almost manditory as, with no one able to spawn at the objective, you want teammates there maintaining its integrity as the hack goes through. If you're running Injectors, Repair, and Hives, then you can end up being in trouble. I generally presume other assaults are all running injectors or hives for themselves and will keep uplinks available for use as it means, when holding a position, if a squaddie dies and I'm unable to revive him, he can still get back right on top of the fight rather than having to hike 50-200m to it. Again, a skirmish tactic, not sure how useful it may be in Ambush which seems like a lot of chaos to me all too often.
________________________________________
Long story short, I'm a crap Logibro as I'm using a lot of my equipment for myself. I even have solo builds for when my team is not so much a team as a field of headless chickens, which consists of Injector, Hive, and RDX. (I will say I don't have a single suit anymore without Injectors). When fielding with a good assault squad I pull Injector, Uplink, and RDX or Triage Rep, but thankfully my corp is understanding of my eccentricities and I commonly run with a proper logi with rep gun and uplinks so I can maintain my Demolitions Expert (Who bothers hacking a turret installation on the enemy side? Really?). |

This is correct. I am awaiting word from CCP regarding what we are permitted to do in creation of guides (videos, wikis, etc are all arguably external and thus may have to wait until open beta).
In the mean time I'm going to attempt to put together a template for use in this thread so that we can still gather and test information as we prepare to create a guide.
Thank you all for your participation and patience.

I carry flux grenades just for this. Its the fastest High damage you can chunk out while keeping your reps up. Knock out the other heavies shields and your heavy should tear through there armor. Additionally with the current build you can easily turn this encounter into 100 plus WP. 50 plus for the rep, 35 for Guardian, and 25 more for an assist! |

While that is true, it may not work as well as you'd think since the Heavy could be a Type 1 or A series. In which case the flux grenades wouldn't have been nearly as effective as a Locus Grenades. Personally i use AV grenades. One of the biggest threats for Heavies is being "Crushed" so i bring AV grenades when i'm supporting a HMG Heavy. That combo you have is a good idea though, and i like it. It's just too situational for me.

True Medic: (Not really what we call ourselves but a generalization in order to give the reader a better idea of what I am going to speak about)
I consider myself a true medic. -Wait! What's a "True Medic?"- I dedicate my efforts in order to keep my squad/team alive. This means that my Mass Driver is just something flashy I hold onto for those -just in case- moments. I understand and can appreciate the concept of launching a few rounds of the Mass Driver into the enemy in order to weaken them, yet I find that if I focus in on my members I serve them better than attempting to play Whack-a-Strawberry. Now, I can reason that everyone has their own play style, I just want to promote being True Medic, 'ere some padawan Logis run unto the field seeking glory through to-the-death combat.
So, what exactly constitutes being a "True Medic?"
I don't have an exact answer -sorry I am still a bit of a newbie myself- yet let me give an overview of what I do for a better understanding. And I shall do so in song....
(Song to: What's Up By: 4 Non Blondes)
Dozen-spawns still alive cloned again Sprinting to get up that great Null Gun For a Hack +100
I realized quickly what I need to do That this radar is covered in Strawberries Dangerous, yet his why my squad needs me
And so I prepare to heal any time When my squad under fire dying around What's in my hand? Nanite injector, itGÇÖs healing time
And so I injectGǪ nanites And I step aside And I see my squad spring up like daisies And I scream from the top of my lungs LetGÇÖs get the healing on!
And I say: HEY! yeah yeaaah, HEY yeah yea I said hey, letGÇÖs get healing on?
And I say: HEY! yeah yeaaah, HEY yeah yea I said hey, letGÇÖs get healing on?
ooh, ooh ooooooooooooooooh ooh, ooh ooooooooooooooooh
and I carry hives, oh my god do I carry nanohives, I try to disperse them, all the time
And I repair, oh my god do I repair I repair all the broken I am a Logibro!
And so I die sometimes When I'm following my squad Just spawn and run after them I am immortal, Kitten death And I, I need to heal
And so I trail the Heavies And I step aside And I watch them burn the strawberries And I scream from the top of my lung Who needs healing?
And I say, hey hey hey hey I said hey, letGÇÖs get healing on?
And I say, hey hey hey hey I said hey, letGÇÖs get healing on?
And I say, hey hey hey hey I said hey, letGÇÖs get healing on?
And I say, hey hey hey hey I said hey, letGÇÖs get the healing on?
ooh, ooh ooooooooooooooooh ooooooooooooooooh
Twenty-five years I'm alive here still Trying to get up that great big hill of hope for a destination mmh mh

While waiting on CCPs response I have a testing request I'd like to make of everyone here.
Please break out the Repair Tools (yes that's Tools with an "s") and start some cycle testing on the awards. The goal is to (dis)prove that the WPs are granted based on a 'cycle' and as such awarding more WPs to lower Meta tools than to the upper Meta. (Lower level tools repair less per cycle, hence more total cycles and more total WP).
Please post back with your findings in This Thread.
