I run with Repair & Revival logi 98% of the time.
About weapons... Automatic Assault Rifles are crucial for me, its versatility is a must for someone who has to position himself in favor of his teammates rather than a specific position, such as long range or short range, where you can kill more effectively. With a logi fit such as mine you'll have to accompany your squad at all times, that means through open terrains, where an smg is useless, and at the chaos of the objectives, where a tac. rifle wont do you much good.
The model of logisuits I use are the Type-2/B-series/Vk.1, which means, enhanced movement speed at the cost of equipment slots, which is good for my specific role, Repair & Revival.
That extra speed is very important to me, at the start of a match I'll drop down from the MCC (cause it's neat) and immediately rush to the closest letter, most of the times I'm the first to get there, because my sprint speed is about the same as the one of a scout suit. Once I capture the objective, I back off, and rejoin my squad.
So basically now there are 4 things which I have to be aware of in order to be a successful support player during that match: -Periodically scan through the team mates in the vicinity for anyone in need of a repair; -Look out for downed teammates, both on the radar and on the Needle icon display on the screen; -Red dots; -My squad's movements.
Now obviously I don't mindlessly rush to a downed blue dot right in front of that enemy HAV, the thing about being a logi is to stay alive the longest possible, 'cause if you die you'll need to solo back to your squad, depending if they're nearby to a spawn point or not, not only that but maybe your whole squad will get defeated or pushed back because you weren't there to give them the needed support.
Still on the topic of not getting killed, an important skill to have is to know when it's time to back away from a situation and when to stay and support your squad. Generally, when playing with randoms, if I'm in a situation where the odds are that we'll get outnumbered and outmaneuvered, I'll turn tail and run like I had stolen that dropsuit, when playing with my corp, however, I'm fairly familiar with the member's skill level and, in most cases, I'll stay until the last man drops dead. My point here is, if you are in an unnecessarily risky situation, back away and regroup, don't risk going forward and getting shotgun'd to the face, that's what Assaults and Heavies are for .
As for red dots, I'll readily engage one if he is an immediate threat to me or my team mates but other than that, I won't chase them around or look for flanking routes.
That's all, dunno how useful that info is but I thought I'd let out a few words about my experience. |
