Crystal Boulevard. That is all that needs to be said. And for OOC it's mentioned in Burning Life. Though that one does have it's share of issues. |

Bringing up a couple of points from the first page, but they're still relevant...
Ares Webber wrote:Sorry to disapoint you, but there are no alien races in New Eden. It is a considerd a very young galaxy so even most of the temparate planets dont even have much life on them. The closest thing you can consider alien are the Jovians but also them are (alltrough geneticly altered) humans. Actually, there ARE aliens in New Eden. There are life forms native to the galaxy in which EVE's Capsuleers (and soon, DUST's Mercs) exist. What they DON'T have is a SENTIENT alien race. Every living thing is either human or a "lower" life form - animal, rather than person. Basically, not something capable of intelligent thought, and not something that can reasonably be considered as a playable character.
And the reply is a post that needs a little more dissecting...
DarkShadowFox wrote:Well, Even though were along the lines of eve... were not REALLY following eve to an exact point... We're not "following" EVE to an exact point, but we ARE being thrown into the same galaxy and will be helping to shape the existing universe. That existing universe has established rules which we'll have to learn and work within. Which leads nicely to this...
Quote:this is scifi... things like this can exist... the possibilities are endless. The possibilities for scifi in general? Yes. The possibilities for an established example of scifi with its own pre-existing rules and setting? Less so.
EVE Online has spent 9 years building a stable, well-understood universe. You use the example that we don't know our entire galaxy, but you're ignoring the technological barriers to our own exploration of the galaxy. In New Eden, humans have been spending THOUSANDS of years - longer than we've even had a space program - exploring, investigating and charting their galaxy. Of COURSE we're not going to know the contents of our galaxy as well as they know theirs.
It's possible, technically, that there could be a genetically altered group of humans who show up looking like animal/human hybrids at some point in the future, but for now, they don't exist in New Eden, and I don't think they fit with the existing aesthetic of the setting. |

Sorry for cutting, you bring up good points, yes. Aesthetics Probably not now, I probably wont have a valid opinion currently until the game is fully out. This will probably come up again on the official game release forums in the suggestion box. But I found putting it here would likely get people to at least view it, even if their angry about it, they are still looking at it no?
But yes, I understand the how wanting to stick to whats already been established, I think thats why I've suggested to someone else to have it as DLC. That way if you dont want it, you dont have to have it. But stuffed into that DLC could be a couple new districts, planets and a few new different vehicle designs and guns that are only available with the pack. Plus its always fun to deviate from the same path over and over again, atleast I think it is.
anyways, thanks for your kind and intelligent post.

You really like talking about the DLC option for this idea of yours, but that makes it seem as if you don't really understand how CCP does updates to their games, or how DUST is going to work.
So, when CCP adds something to the game, they first make sure it's a sensible addition, and explain to the player base why the thing has been added. Numerous times, the player base has responded badly to a proposed addition, and the idea has been revised or scrapped. And to be clear, the response to YOUR idea has been overwhelmingly negative, even though you continue to insist that its "DLC" nature means it will bring in players. However, this is simply not the case. The inclusion of a DLC that the vast majority of EvE/DUST players would say is nonsensical would only harm the player base, not bolster it. This is counter to your purported reason for wanting this addition at all: to get more players to play the game. Why would CCP make an addition to the game that most players would not like? Even if, as you suggest, the add-on is kept in "DLC" form and kept optional, it's mere existence would almost certainly upset and anger the player base, which would be counter-productive. |

I don't see this happening considering that you are asking CCP to throw in something like anthro characters into a storyline that has been running just fine for nine years and has two books out already. |

PS: if there were any anthro characters in New Eden, then I bet the Amarr empire has practically domesticated them and turn them into nothing more than slaver hounds. The rest must have been executed into extinction as they were an abomination to their catholic god. |

DLCs are produced for games that have a single player mode or for new maps etc. Dust is part of a persistent universe. There is no actual download for maps etc. When you install the program for EvE or dust what you are installing are files that tell your computer or PS3 how to connect your client to the server and how to link or stream data for it. Along with some graphics data that is preloaded. For them to make it so people could have what you want would be difficult as everything is really server side. Plus the extended amount of time to even program or make things like that. Why would they do that and have to change the lore for a small subsection of people that might not like the gameplay anyways? Should CCP alienate it's current playerbase just to please others? I can tell you it wouldn't work. The Incarna incident and SWG can both attest to that. |

I think it might be good to see new races in New Eden but they'd be human offshoots like the Joves and Takhmal. An anthro race could potentially be a pretty cool idea and gives a nice basis for really~ mixing up stuff like racial abilities and the like... but not in EVEs universe.
The closest we have to aliens in the EVE universe are the Sleepers (http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Sleeper) and their equivalents. This is part and partial of the universe that humanity REALLY IS all alone.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not slamming your ideas, nor am I going to stoop to the levels some others in this thread have, but I will point out that what you're suggesting is so disconnected from EVE and the EVE universe it'd be like introducing jedi as a character class and giving them force powers.
Sure it'd be damned cool, but it's not EVE\Dust. |
